24th May Marvel Comic Releases

Another week, another new set of new releases for new comic book day!

Single Issues:

Daredevil And Echo by B. Earl and Taboo

For months, the bloodthirsty and demonic DEMOGOBLIN has been kidnapping children for reasons unknown. IN THIS SERIES, Daredevil and Echo discover why – as Demogoblin works to wake an ancient and powerful evil deep within the bowels of the city. Reunited at last with Echo, herself fresh from a brief time as the host of the Phoenix force, it falls to DAREDEVIL to stop Demagoblin and save not only the children, but everyone in New York!

I recommend being up to date with Daredevil and Echo before reading this.

Fury by Al Ewing

A glamorous rogue agent with a deadly secret lures NICK FURY into the action-thriller of a lifetime…HIS FATHER’S! Following the trail opens NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FURY FILES from the Howlin’ ’40s…the Swingin’ ’60s…and today! But it takes more than ONE Nick Fury to unlock a mystery decades in the making – and to answer the question…WHO IS S.C.O.R.P.I.O.?

Another one that I would not recommend if you haven’t read anything about Fury before – I’ll be doing a lot on Fury in June and July, so you don’t have long to wait to get to know him!

Iron Man Issue 1 Facsimile Edition by Archie Goodwin

In 1968, after years of sharing a split title with Captain America (plus one issue with Namor), Iron Man blasted into his own solo series for the first time – and quickly found himself battling alone against A.I.M.! Trapped in the terror group’s submarine, can Tony Stark fight his way out? Or will the sinister scientist Mordius discover the secrets of his invincible armor – and use them against the Golden Avenger? Plus: The origin of Iron Man is retold in action-packed fashion! It’s one of the all-time great Marvel comic books, boldly re-presented in its original form, ads and all!

Basically a reprint of Iron Man’s first ever solo comic.

Storm by Ann Nocenti

ORORO MUNROE, A.K.A. STORM, has been a thief, a goddess and a leader of the X-MEN – and she’s just getting started! With her mutant ability to control the weather bolstered by her top-notch fighting skills, she’s a formidable opponent like no other (as CALLISTO of the MORLOCKS can attest)! But when an elemental power emerges near the XAVIER MANSION, it’ll take Storm to the limit of her powers and beyond!
Get ready for an electrifying all-new series showcasing Storm’s days of rocking her mohawk and leading the X-Men, as she faces an ALL-NEW VILLAIN that will threaten to tear her apart from her team… and what she thought she knew about herself!

If you’re not caught up with the Krakoan era of the X-Men, this won’t make much sense at all I’m afraid.

Bind Ups:

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Maximum Carnage by David Michelinie, various

Symbiotes clash – with Spidey in the middle! Carnage, the spawn of Venom, has assembled an army of the web-slinger’swebslinger’s criminally insane adversaries to spread his message of hostility, chaos and wholesale slaughter: Carrion, Demogoblin, Shriek and the Spider-Man Doppelganger! Outmanned and overpowered, the wall-crawler must recruit his own band of super-beings to combat the rising tide of evil: Black Cat, Cloak & Dagger, Firestar, Captain America, Iron Fist, Deathlok and – Venom?! Spider-Man’s worst enemy becomes his uneasy ally in the battle to halt the pure evil of Carnage’s mad rampage! Plus, an explosive day for Peter Parker leads him into a savage showdown with the Punisher – and Sabretooth!

The 25th volume in the Spider-Man Epic Collection, the previous volumes that are currently available are: Great Power, Great Responsibility, Spider-Man No More, The Goblin Lives, The Secret Of The Petrified Tablet, The Death Of Captain Stacy, The Goblin’s Last Stand, Man-Wolf At Midnight, Spider-Man Or Spider-Clone?, Ghosts Of The Past, Kraven’s Last Hunt, Venom, Assassin Nation, Cosmic Adventures, Return Of The Sinister Six, Round Robin, The Hero Killers and Invasion Of The Spider-Slayers.

Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man by B. Earl and Taboo

A revolutionary dark take on Spider-Man! What is reality and what is dream? What is science and what is magic? At the intersection of these crossroads stands the Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Peter Parker travels to Los Angeles, but what he finds are definitely not angels. The demons waiting there will test him like never before. And one demon in particular – a very famous one for Marvel and X-fans – might just eat Spider-Man alive! Beset by nightmares whenever he falls asleep – and sometimes even when he’s awake – a weary Peter is in no condition to face… the Demon Bear! But with no rest in sight, the web-slinger will have little choice but to dig in and hang on – unless he wants to meet a grizzly end!

I’d say that you need some Spider-Man and Demon Bear knowledge, but other than that, you should be reasonably fine going into this.

Immortal X-Men by Kieron Gillen volume 2

Judgment comes, courtesy of the Eternals… and the Quiet Council grows suspiciously quiet. With one notable exception: Do you think a man devoted to Hellfire cares one jot? Let’s find out! Plus, even if you’re the heart of the X-Men, there are days you just want to tear out other people’s hearts. Judgment day is one of them. What extreme steps will Nightcrawler take in the name of the Spark?

The next part in the Krakoan era bind ups – if you’ve been collecting the bind ups under the ‘Dawn Of X (part two), Reign of X, Trials Of X’ titles, then ignore this release, if you’ve been collecting the run by teams, then you’ll need this.

Marvel Masterworks: Avengers volume 23 by Roger Stern and various

Roger Stern’s run of Avengers excellence continues! First, Spider-Man is short on cash – and an Avengers salary is just the ticket to fix his finances! Then, it’s pandemonium at Project PEGASUS – and in the aftermath, Starfox connects the Vision to Titan’s supercomputer, giving Vizh nearly unlimited power! Next, the team battles Morgan Le Fey in a struggle to save Spider-Woman’s soul. Meanwhile, Hawkeye introduces his new bride, Mockingbird, to the Avengers – just in time to get whisked away to Battleworld along with most of the team! The Vision is left behind, but can he assemble an all-new Avengers roster? Plus: An Annual adventure by the creative dream team of Stern, Ditko and Byrne – and Mark Gruenwald’s milestone HAWKEYE limited series!

Previous volumes are just numbered 1-22.

Peter Parker and Miles Morales: Spider-Men Double Trouble by Mariko Tamaki and Vita Ayala

Miles Morales is Peter Parker’s friend, super-hero namesake, crimefighting ally and sidekick?! No way! Peter has dragged Miles to “Take Your Sidekick to Work Day,” and Miles is not amused – they’re both Spider-Man! So when Peter makes a mistake that unleashes villainous shenanigans on New York City, it’s up to Miles to save the day and prove exactly which Spider-Man is the true sidekick! Writer Vita Ayala joins the fan-favorite team that brought you SPIDER-MAN & VENOM: DOUBLE TROUBLE and THOR & LOKI: DOUBLE TROUBLE for a brand-new adventure! Plus: Look back at another case of double trouble as the best of frenemies, Spider-Man and Venom, get inside each other’s heads… literally!

A new kid friendly Marvel Comic, so as long as they know about Peter Parker and Miles Morales, any kid can read this!

Spider-Man 2099 Omnibus volume 1 by Peter David and various

Peter David’s futuristic epic, collected in full! The year 2099 is full of menace, but none so insidious as the corrupt corporations that run the world! Miguel O’Hara, his DNA rewritten in an attempt to escape his employer Alchemax, has gained amazing powers – and become the new Spider-Man! But as Miguel battles injustice in both high and low society, menaces new and familiar come calling: Venture, the Specialist, the Vulture, the mysterious Thanatos and more! The possible return of the Asgardian gods unites Miguel with 2099’s other heroes – but who is the Net Prophet? How will Spider-Man react when Doctor Doom conquers America? And what is Miguel’s connection to Venom 2099?

The absolute best place to start when it comes to Spider-Man 2099, and there’s no better time to read it, as Across The Spider-Verse is out in less than two weeks!

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s going on your pull list? I’m looking at Spider-Man 2099, Fury and Daredevil And Echo! Tell me your choices in the comments below!
