17th May Marvel Comic Releases

There are not many single issues this week, but again the bind ups are more than making up for it!

Single Issues:

Avengers by Jed MacKay

JED MACKAY AND STORMBREAKER C.F. VILLA TAKE THE REINS OF EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES!
The Star. The Icon. The Witch. The Construct. The God. The Engineer. The King. The world is ever in peril, and a new team of Avengers mobilizes to meet any dangers that dare threaten the planet. But when TERMINUS attacks, a new and insidious danger rears its head: one that the Avengers know all too well, and one that comes to them in the most dangerous of guises – that of a friend.

While this is the first in a series, I’d recommend knowing a bit about Jason Aaron’s Avengers run (guide coming soon!), the characters involved, as well as having read Jed MacKay’s Timeless from December last year, which gave a hint at what Kang is up to and what is coming in this Avengers run.

Danny Ketch Ghost Rider by Howard Mackie

DANNY KETCH IS BACK!
Flashback to a time when innocent blood was spilled, a Spirit of Vengenace was born, and Danny Ketch found himself transformed into the GHOST RIDER! A gang war is breaking out across New York City, with Ghost Rider caught in the middle! But if it’s just rival gangs killing each other, does Ghost Rider need to get involved?

I would recommend having read the original Danny Ketch Ghost Rider by Howard Mackie (2009) before reading this.

Hulk Annual by David Pepose and Phillip Kennedy Johnson

HULK VS. GIGANTO!
A documentary crew is on the hunt for a monster at the heart of a gamma radiation leak, but they get much more than they bargained for when they end up on Hulk’s angry side – and caught in the middle of a brawl between two unstoppable giants, as Hulk battles an unleashed Giganto! Plus: A special preview, exclusive to this issue, of the shocking new direction Hulk is headed in this summer!

The start of a new, exciting, horror-themed Hulk run that you will not want to miss!

Bind Ups:

Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells volume 4: Dark Web

Marvel’s two most infamous clones are back to take what’s theirs! Ben Reilly and Madelyne Pryor have had enough – and they’re reigniting the Inferno! And as Chasm and the Goblin Queen spin their dark web over New York City, Spider-Man and the X-Men are not ready for what’s coming! If Peter Parker is to survive this supernatural nightmare, he’ll have to get through Venom, Chasm, Hallows’ Eve and – when he finds himself trapped in Limbo – hordes of demons! But not your typical, run-of-the-mill demons – no, we’re talking hellish versions of his rogues’ gallery! Can Spidey somehow make it home to rejoin the fight, and stop Chasm and the Goblin Queen?! And how will Limbo change the landscape of NYC forever?!

Previous volumes are: World Without Love, The New Sinister and Hobgoblin.

Captain Marvel by Kelly Thompson volume 9: Revenge Of The Brood part 1

A nightmare mission to the stars changes everything for Captain Marvel! A mysterious degraded message from Rogue arrives at the same time that Carol’s emergency beacon begins screaming with cries from Binary, and that cannot possibly be a coincidence. Captain Marvel assembles a team of allies – including Polaris, Gambit, Wolverine and Psylocke. But their rescue mission is soon derailed by a dangerous old enemy out for blood! The Brood has always been one of the most fearsome alien races in the galaxy. Now, under the rule of an Empress gone rogue, with a hive mind bent on revenge, will even Captain Marvel and the X-Men be enough to stop them?! Plus: As a mighty war rages that threatens the fate of the world, Captain Marvel – and her whole household – face Judgment Day!

Previous volumes are: Re-Entry, Falling Star, The Last Avenger, Accused, The New World, Strange Magic, The Last Of The Marvels and The Trials.

Incredible Hulk by Peter David Omnibus volume 5

You can’t keep Peter David away from the Hulk for long! The legendary writer has returned to his signature character many times, across different eras and realities – but in the far future, how will he bring the Hulk’s incredible story to an end? Plus: The Hulk finds himself on a strange island with some very unexpected monsters! In the HOUSE OF M, Hulk’s newfound peace will be short-lived! It’s smashing time when Hulk battles the Abomination! The Hulk clashes with the Champions, Fin Fang Foom, the Leader and more! And revisit two seminal Hulk eras: the mindless monster’s time in the Crossroads and the gray Hulk’s membership in the New Fantastic Four!

Previous volumes are just numbered 1-4.

Iron Man Epic Collection: The Crossing by Terry Kavanagh and various

Iron Man: murderer?! Kang the Conqueror weaves a complicated plot that pits the Avengers against Tony Stark! As figures from the future desperately try to warn the heroes, murders at the mansion shake the Avengers to their core. Meanwhile, Tony has begun having unexplained blackouts – and it’s possible he’s the killer! As threats mount and the mystery deepens, War Machine and Force Works become entangled, while Masque has an agenda of her own. But how do Gilgamesh, the Swordsman, the Anachronauts and the Priests of Pama fit in? Which former Avenger is Kang’s secret ally? And can Iron Man unravel what’s happening to him before he’s lost to the darkness forever?

The 21st book in the Iron Man Epic Collection.

Mighty Thor Omnibus volume 4 by Gerry Conway and various

All hail Asgard, because it’s time for the next Thor Omnibus! It begins when Odin sends Thor on a quest to the World’s End – and Loki looses Mangog, the monster powered by the anger and hatred of a billion beings! It’s an all-out action epic that leads to the tragic death of Odin. But death is not the end! Next comes Ulik’s attempt to wrest Mjolnir from Thor and conquer Earth. Then, it’s page after page of boasts, brawls and broken bones as Thor and Hercules team up and battle their way into Pluto’s underworld! And before you reach the end of this oversized edition, the Destroyer will return – and the origin of Ego the Living Planet will be revealed!

Previous volumes are just numbered 1-3.

Marvel Masterworks: Howard The Duck volume 2 by Steve Gerber and various

You wanted more Howard the Duck? Well, you’re getting more Howard the Duck! The Marvel Masterworks finishes off Steve Gerber’s satirical masterpiece with classic quacktastic adventures starring the malcontent waterfowl and his gal pal, Beverly! When Howard finds himself lost on the island of his greatest enemy, Doctor Bong, Bev faces an ultimatum: Become Mrs. Bong or the duck gets fricasseed! But things soon get worse for our feathered friend when he undergoes a monstrous transformation. The world isn’t ready for Howard the Human! So it’s time to go off-planet in a space-opera adventure that could only be called “Star Waaugh!” Joining Gerber for his history-making run is artist Gene Colan, rendering the hilarity on every page! May the farce be with you!

The previous volume is again, just numbered 1.

Spider-Man: One More Day Gallery Edition by J. Michael Straczynski and Joe Quesada

One of the most talked-about Spider-Man stories of all time, from creative masterminds J. Michael Straczynski and Joe Quesada! The stakes have never been higher for Peter Parker. In his darkest hours – and he’s had plenty – Peter has always had one shoulder to lean on, one person who’d remind him who he is, was and can be. Now he’s about to lose that person. What would Peter and Mary Jane do – what would you do – to have just one more day? Experience the event that changed everything for Spider-Man and those he loves, and ushered in a brand-new era of web-slinging heroics – now on the oversized pages that Quesada’s intricate artwork deserves!

Basically just a giant-sized edition of the classic One More Day story, which helped inspire Spider-Man: No Way Home, so you don’t need to buy this if you’ve already got a copy of this run.

X-Men Legends: Past Meets Future by Roy Thomas and various

More all-new, in-continuity tales set in the X-Men’s legendary past! First, writer Roy Thomas returns to bridge the gap between his 1960s run and the team-redefining GIANT-SIZE X-MEN #1! Discover Wolverine’s government missions before his recruitment by Professor X – including unrevealed details of his battle with the Hulk, an early encounter with the X-Men and a secret behind his iconic costume! Then, Ann Nocenti takes the X-Men back to Mojoworld for an adventure set after her sensational LONGSHOT limited series! Will Longshot, Wolverine and Shadowcat be able to escape the pull of Mojoworld before things Spiral out of control? And the future is now as superstar Whilce Portacio returns to his iconic co-creation Bishop in a time-traveling tale that finally reveals the genesis of the X.S.E.’s ill-fated final mission back to the X-Men’s present day!

This will definitely require knowledge of each of the runs mentioned in the synopsis, otherwise, each issue won’t make any sense.

And that’s everything releasing this week! What’s going on your pull list? I’m looking at Avengers and Captain Marvel!
