15th February Marvel Comic Releases

Marvel are spoiling us this new comic book day, so let’s get stuck into everything coming out!

Single Issues:

Avengers End Times: Marvel Tales by Brian Michael Bendis

The Avengers reunite with one of their own, long believed dead, as we celebrate the legacy of the House of Ideas with MARVEL TALES! This anthology series shines a spotlight on fan-favourite characters, features timeless stories and highlights some of Marvel’s most impressive talent from the past eight decades! And, in AVENGERS (2010) #31-34 – the explosive climax of writer Brian Michael Bendis’ long and revolutionary run, featuring the artwork of Mike Mayhew, Brandon Peterson, Terry Dodson and a galaxy of stars – a distress call from an unknown ally leads Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and Giant-Man into the Microverse! But who has summoned them? Has the mystery Avenger only succeeded in luring their teammates to their doom at the hands of the lethal Lord Gouzar? And who shall rescue the rescuers? Avengers Re-assemble!

Not something to read if you’re brand new to the Marvel Comic Universe, as this will rely on a lot of knowledge of everyone mentioned, as well as what has happened in the previous 30 issues of this Avengers run.

Marvel Voices: Wakanda Forever by Juni Ba and others

Marvel celebrates Black History Month with this special one-shot featuring the iconic heroes of Wakanda! Black Panther, Shuri, Okoye and more star in all-new stories by an incredible lineup of both fan-favourite creators and talent fresh to the Marvel Universe. Join them as they grow and expand the inimitable world of Wakanda in these tales of myth, adventure, strife, and more! Including the debut of the LAST Black Panther in a story set in Wakanda’s future! Marvel’s Voices program is the first stop in getting deeper looks into the world outside your window!

I’d definitely recommend having knowledge of Wakanda, Black Panther, Shuri, Okoye and all things Marvel Voices before reading this!

Nightcrawlers by Si Spurrier

Ten years into a twisted future, MR SINISTER unleashes his private army of assassins: THE LEGION OF THE NIGHT. Meet WAGNERINE, commanding this killer crew of brainwashed hybrids, each one a genetic mix of NIGHTCRAWLER and another one of Marvel’s most murderous mutants! Mysterious forces seek to break Sinister’s control over these fatal fanatics – to turn them AGAINST HIM. But who are they? And what are their true motives…? Enter MOTHER RIGHTEOUS… and a meeting of the most powerful players in the Universe…

At the very least, you’ll need to be caught up with Dawn Of X (reading guides parts one and two here), Reign Of X and Trials Of X. As I’ve said before, I’ll work on a new reading guide once more Trials volumes come out.

Murderworld: Moon Knight by Jim Zub and Ray Fawkes

Under the harsh light of the moon there is no escape, and with only a handful of contestants left, anything can happen! Murderworld is a life-or-death game of treachery and tragedy brought to you by Jim Zub (Conan the Barbarian, Avengers: No Surrender), Ray Fawkes (One Soul, Constantine) and, illustrated by Luca Pizzari! Arcade and his schemes have been a punchline in the past, but this contest is no joke. Each issue ups the ante, and this penultimate chapter has some of the biggest twists yet. Don’t miss it!

I’ll have a Murderworld guide up once the whole run and the bind up are out, for now, I have a guide for Moon Knight up, to help you get to know the character.

Bind Ups:

Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells volume 3: Hobgoblin

Prepare to have your heart broken all over again! As the momentous events of A.X.E. reverberate across the Marvel Universe, it’s time for Spider-Man to face judgment – and we all know which moment in his history is going to weigh heavily on the proceedings. If Peter can somehow pick himself up, he’ll have earned a nice quiet life, right? Nope – because the Hobgoblin is lurking in the shadows! But who’s beneath the cowl this time? If you know anything about the Hobgoblin, you know that you know nothing about the Hobgoblin! Plus: It’s time for Spidey to don his Sunday best, because he’s off to the Hellfire Gala! But something is about to happen at the hottest party on Krakoa that sends Spider-Man and Wolverine on a dangerous mission all over creation!

The first two Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells volumes are called World Without Love and The New Sinister.

Captain America by Nick Spencer Omnibus volume 1

Captain America! And in addition to threats like the Sons of the Serpent, he must contend with those who resent him taking on Cap’s mantle. But when Sam, Steve and Bucky learn the shocking truth of the town of Pleasant Hill, everything changes again – and a reinvigorated Steve returns as a second Captain America! But Steve has a terrible secret. Is he a double agent for Hydra? Has he always been one?! As Sam battles in the light, Steve navigates through the shadows – and schemes to change the world!

Contains the entire Captain America: Sam Wilson run, Captain America: Steve Rogers run and a whole load of other issues too – personally, I would not recommend this run, as it has been very controversial in the sense that it reimagined Steve Rogers as a Hydra agent, and nobody really enjoyed it. But, if you want to read the run, this is a pretty good thing to check out.

Captain America: Sentinel Of Liberty volume 1: Revolution by Collin Kelly and others

A new era of shield-slinging begins! When Arnim Zola launches a catastrophic attack on New York City, he meets his match – in two Captain Americas! But a shocking secret about Steve Rogers’ iconic shield will change the way he views the 20th century he came from – and how he chooses to fight in the 21st! Steve follows a trail of coded bread crumbs to Germany in pursuit of an elusive organization making bold and deadly moves, while Bucky Barnes’ own investigation leads him to the high rollers tables in Madripoor. Thousands of miles apart with no backup, will Steve and Bucky find what they’re looking for, or are they both in over their heads? Featuring the shocking return of the Dryad herself: Peggy Carter!

The first bind up in the latest Captain America run!

Daredevil and Elektra by Chip Zdarsky volume 1: Red Fist Saga

After DEVIL’S REIGN comes the dawn! In the wake of Wilson Fisk’s violent and visceral last act, it’s a new era for New York and the Man Without Fear! Matt Murdock has no choice but to leave behind everything he’s ever known, and Elektra is the last vestige of his former life. Everything Matt thought he knew about what it meant to be Daredevil is about to change! Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto continue their epic saga, tackling the journeys of both Matt and Elektra as they each deal with the brutal cost of taking on the Daredevil mantle. But new enemies mean Hell’s Kitchen is going to be darker than ever!

Make sure you’ve read Devil’s Reign before this!

Daredevil Epic Collection: The Man Without Fear by Stan Lee and others

Matt Murdock’s luck always ran a step behind his good intentions. When a daring act to save a man’s life blinds young Murdock, he finds that the same accident has enhanced his remaining senses to superhuman levels! He becomes Daredevil, a gritty hero born from murder but tempered with the desire to protect the downtrodden. Writer Stan Lee and artists Bill Everett, Joe Orlando, Wallace Wood, John Romita Sr. and Gene Colan lay the foundation of Marvel’s Man Without Fear – including the first appearances of core characters Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, and classic villains like the Owl, the Purple Man, Stilt-Man and the Gladiator!

The first-ever Epic Collection for Daredevil, so the perfect place to start Matt Murdock’s story!

Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Nightmare On Bleecker Street by Len Kaminski and others

Powerless! When Clea’s actions free the dread Dormammu, Doctor Strange beseeches the all-powerful Vishanti for aid. But his mystical patrons have a request in return – and when Strange refuses, he is stripped of most of his magical power! Sorcerer Supreme no more, Strange must revive his old non-team the Defenders to contend with Dormammu! Then, when Nightmare targets Strange, will Morbius be a friend or foe? Plus: Strange loses and gains a disciple and is swept up in cosmic chaos when the Goddess launches her Infinity Crusade! This final epic will take you to the bleeding edge of the Spider-Verse, reacquainting you with old favorites and introducing you to some of the most important characters you haven’t met yet – but it will also slice the final strand of the web. The singing princess, Spinstress! Sergei Kravinoff, the Hunter-Spider! The amazing Sun-Spider! The mysterious Night-Spider! And more!

You’ll definitely need to read the original Spider-Geddon at the very least before this.

Genis-Vell, Captain Marvel by Peter David

The son of the original Kree Captain Marvel is back! Rick Jones, one-time sidekick to both Captain America and the Hulk, has a long history with Genis-Vell – and now they’re about to come crashing back into each other! And how is Rick’s ex-wife, Marlo Chandler, the key to this mysterious malady? Join our dysfunctional duo as they grapple with these questions – with a little help from Genis’ sister, Phyla-Vell! Prepare to relive an exciting, hilarious and fan-favourite pairing in the year’s most anticipated reunion as legendary scribe Peter David takes Genis to all-new heights of heroism! It’s enough to make you exclaim: “O-wha-tagoo-siam!”

I’d recommend knowing about the original Captain Marvel first.

Iron Man volume 4: Source Control by Christopher Cantwell and others

Tony Stark is ready to re-engage! With Korvac, the Power Cosmic and a nasty morphine addiction behind him, Tony re-enters the world. But things don’t go exactly as planned, and Iron Man soon finds himself battling a hyper-intelligent gorilla through the streets of New York! Then, a trip to California leaves Tony stranded in the southwestern desert with malfunctioning armour – and things go downhill from there! Shellhead faces deadly new villain Switchback, classic foe the Titanium Man and a dangerous conspiracy involving the Mandarin’s Rings! To track down these deadly weapons, he’ll have to employ stealth mode! Christopher Cantwell concludes his thought-provoking run with a shocking question: Must there be an Iron Man?!

This bind up is also called The Books Of Korvac IV, so if you already have that, then you don’t need this one.

Marvel Knights: Make The World Go Away by Donny Cates and others

In celebration of the legendary imprint founded more than two decades ago, a new crop of talented creators unveils a groundbreaking story in the hard-hitting Marvel Knights style! In the cemetery, the blind man doesn’t know who he is or why he has come to this particular grave. He doesn’t know the burly police officer with the wild story. Or the strangely intense man who sits in the rear seat of the patrol car, his eyes flashing green. But all that is about to change. Matt Murdock is beginning to remember. But only one man can find the answers – a man who once ruled a nation! In a world without heroes, these individuals face a mystery that can only be unraveled – a threat that can only be challenged – by Knights.

Marvel Knights is a more mature set of stories set in the Marvel Universe – I’ll do a guide on the imprint soon.

Marvel Masterworks: Invincible Iron Man volume 16

Tony Stark is living proof that even good looks, lots of money and world-class technical genius can’t guarantee that life’s a breeze! With new writer Dennis O’Neil at the helm, Iron Man faces a gauntlet of villains including Diablo and the Serpent Squad. And he’ll need Moon Knight’s help to defeat A.I.M.! Then Obadiah Stane lures Iron Man into a real-life game of chess that could destroy Stark International! With the pressure mounting and still struggling with the demons of alcoholism, Tony Stark transfers the mantle of Iron Man to Jim Rhodes! Prepare for one of the most influential stories in Iron Man history! Also featuring an Annual adventure co-starring the Black Panther that takes Iron Man to Wakanda!

The previous volumes are just numbered 1-15.

X-Men Hellfire Gala: Immortal by Gerry Duggan and others

Don your dazzling dresses and tailored tuxedos – it’s time for the second annual Hellfire Gala! And the highlight will be the election of a new team of X-Men! But can Emma Frost hold everything together when a shocking revelation threatens to derail her big night? Plus: Cannonball and Sunspot lead their fellow runners-up from last year’s X-Men election on a secret mission in aid of the Shi’ar Empire! Online-exclusive Hellfire Gala stories in print for the first time! And a gallery of variant covers featuring this year’s hottest looks from the Gala!

I’ll add this to my next X-Men reading guide, as it’s part of the run.

And that’s everything coming out this week! Who else is putting Marvel Voices and Marvel Knights on their pull list?
