8th February Marvel Comic Releases

It’s Sunday, so it’s time to talk about some new releases!

Single Issues:

Bishop War College by J Holtham

Krakoa is an island paradise, and it’s a vulnerable one… but not with Lucas Bishop on the case! Armor, Surge, Cam Long, Aura Charles, Amass – these are his students. Their course objective: Get strong. Defend the island. Keep mutantkind safe. What does any of that have to do with an all-Black X-Men team? Find out here! Celebrated TV writer J. Holtham (Cloak and Dagger, Jessica Jones) joins forces with artist Sean Damien Hill for a blockbuster brawl with the fate of all Krakoa at stake!

Before reading this, I’d recommend being completely up to date with the Krakoa era of the X-Men. I’ve got two Dawn Of X parts and Reign Of X up as reading guides; the next part will be coming up soon!

Red Goblin by Alex Paknade

Normie Osborn receives his own symbiote at last! As a new Red Goblin, will Normie fulfil his destiny as an Osborn – or will he and his symbiote be able to make a difference for the better?

You’ll need to be up to date with Venom and all things Norman Osborn before getting into this.

Storm And The Brotherhood Of Mutants by Al Ewing

Ten years from now, Mars has been destroyed – and now STORM wants revenge! To get it, the New Brotherhood will battle their way through Hell to seek the greatest secret of the Sinister Age… but are they fighting to save the world – or end it? And who is the man called IRONFIRE?

Again, you’ll want to be caught up with the Krakoan Era of the X-Men for this.

Bind Ups:

An all-time cosmic classic and one of the most important Marvel stories ever told! The galaxy is rocked by a conflict of star-spanning proportions – with Earth caught in the crossfire! The eternal intergalactic enemies, the merciless Kree and the shape-changing Skrulls, have gone to war – and our planet is situated on the front lines! Can Earth’s Mightiest Heroes bring about an end to the fighting before humanity becomes a casualty of war? And what good are even a dozen super-powered champions against the vast military machines of two of the great empires of the cosmos? The key to victory lies with the expatriate Kree Captain Mar-Vell and his human host, honorary Avenger Rick Jones!

A giant-sized edition of the original Kree/Skrull War event!

Avengers volume 11: History’s Mightiest Heroes by Jason Aaron

The Avengers are lost in time! If Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have any hope of stopping Mephisto’s grand plan, they’ll need help from legendary champions from different eras whose stories have never been told – until now! Legends like the mystical man of war, Sgt. Szardos, Soldier Supreme of World War II; the fabled Ghost Ronin of Japan’s Edo Period, who walks by night and wields a blade forged by hellfire; and Reno Phoenix and the Starbrand Kid in the Old West! Is that enough to force a showdown with the forces of Mephisto? Or will the Avengers be trapped in the past forever? Featuring the long-awaited return of the Avenging archer, Hawkeye!

Previous volumes are: The Final Host, World Tour, War Of The Vampires, War Of The Realms, Challenge Of The Ghost Riders, Starbrand Reborn, The Age Of Khonshu, Enter The Pheonix, Heroes Reborn: America’s Mightiest Heroes, America’s Mightiest Heroes Companion volumes 1 and 2, World War She-Hulk, The Lord Of Earthly Vengeance and The Death Hunters. I’ll be doing a full reading guide soon, once the run ends.

Avengers By Jonathan Hickman Omnibus volume 1

Modern visionary Jonathan Hickman begins his Marvel magnum opus! As threats to Earth mount, the Avengers expand! But even the mightiest roster of all may be powerless in the face of what’s coming! And while Iron Man and Captain America assemble their Avengers World and strive to decipher the meaning of the White Event, Tony Stark secretly tries to solve the biggest crisis of all, along with his influential allies the Illuminati! While they seek to prevent the collapse of reality itself, the Avengers face a war on two fronts! Protecting Earth from the Builders may only hand it to…Thanos!

If you want to collect this series in one big go, then this could be the way to go – it’s the Omnibus, which collects several volumes in one big book.

Mighty Marvel Masterworks Captain Marvel: Coming Of Captain Marvel by Roy Thomas and others

Watch the skies – Captain Marvel, the space-born super hero, is coming! Branded a traitor to the alien Kree race for defending the natives of Earth, Captain Mar-Vell assumes the human identity of Walter Lawson and becomes our planet’s protector against an awesome array of interstellar enemies! The massive Sentry #459, the savage Super-Skrull, Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner and Quasimodo the Living Computer all wage war against Captain Marvel here in his very first adventures! There’s plenty of drama as well, with Kree medic Una and Earth’s own Carol Danvers both catching the Captain’s eye. Crafted by top talents of the Marvel Age, this one’s certifiably out of this world!

The beginning of Captain Marvel’s story, so if you want to know more about the legacy of the name Captain Marvel, and the various heroes who have held that name, then this is the place to start!
