1st February Marvel Comic Releases

Let’s see what this week’s new comic book day will bring us!

Single Issues:

Bloodline: Daughter Of Blade by Danny Lore

Brielle Brooks is a good kid, no matter what her teachers say – it’s not her fault she’s developing vampiric super-powers and the undead want to brawl! And as if problems at school aren’t enough, Bri’s got a wild ride ahead of her – she’s about to discover that she’s the daughter of the infamous vampire hunter and Daywalker known as BLADE!

I’d say that you need at least some knowledge of Blade before reading this, but this does work as Brielle’s origin story, so you won’t need any knowledge of her – mainly because there won’t be any!

Dark Web Finale by Zeb Wells

The dawn rises after the demonic invasion of New York City, but what will that light reveal? It will reveal Chasm’s final gambit and the new denizens of Hell he helped create and unleash on Spider-Man and the X-Men! See how Dark Web changed this city’s landscape forever!

The finale of the Dark Web event has started! Expect a reading guide soon, once the bind ups appear!

Demon Wars: Down In Flames by Peach Momoko

Things are heating up in Momoko’s Marvel Universe! The spirit world is divided. Its inhabitants, strange creatures called yokai, have chosen sides, and the two factions are on the brink of all-out war. A bird-like yokai who wields some serious firepower faces off against a club-wielding demon. Mariko Yashida finds herself right in the middle of it.No matter which side she chooses, there will be consequences not only for the spirit world, but for the human world too. Don’t miss the next installment of Peach Momoko’s epic DEMON WARS saga!

Just make sure you’ve read the original Demon Wars by Peach Momoko before reading this!

Silver Surfer: Ghost Light by John Jennings

Toni Brooks and her family have moved into the quiet town of Sweetwater. But nothing is quite what it seems in their new home. What mystery did Toni and her family unravel that would call upon the Sentinel of the Spaceways – the Silver Surfer?! And just who, or what, is GHOST LIGHT? Eisner Award winner JOHN JENNINGS and artist VALENTINE DE LANDRO (Bitch Planet) introduce a new Marvel super hero over 50 years in the making!

The start of a new superhero – something we don’t see very often! My only advice is that you should have some knowledge of the Silver Surfer before going into this.

Bind Ups:

Ant Man/Giant Man Epic Collection: Man In The Ant Hill by Stan Lee and others

A man of action and a man of science, Dr. Henry Pym invented an amazing growth serum and a cybernetic helmet – and with them, he became the Astonishing Ant-Man! Pym soon teamed with Janet Van Dyne, the winsome Wasp, and the two tiny titans went on to battle an array of mini- and maxi-sized menaces from the Scarlet Beetle to the Black Knight! But adventures in the microscopic world weren’t enough for one of the Marvel Age’s first super heroes. Soon, Ant-Man became the biggest Avenger there ever was: Giant-Man! And his foundational adventures are all here in this debut Epic Collection!

The first volume in the Epic Collection I mentioned last week, so if you want to read about Hank Pym and his origin story, this is the thing to read!

Captain Mar-Vel Omnibus volume 1 by Roy Thomas and others

Branded a traitor for defending the people of Earth, the space-born Kree hero Captain Mar-Vell uses his cosmic powers as our planet’s protector. And the good Captain’s legacy is strong: From his early adventures drawn by Gene Colan to his reinvention by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane to his iconic cosmic awakening under Jim Starlin, each story is presented in oversized glory in this massive Omnibus volume. Also featuring the first appearance of Carol Danvers, Rick Jones bonding with Cap by way of the cosmic Nega-Bands, war with the vicious Col. Yon-Rogg, battles with the Black Widow, Captain America and Hulk, and last, but not least, the first appearance of Thanos!

If you want to know the origins of the original Captain Mar-Vell, Carol Danvers and Thanos, then give this a look!

Daredevil by Miller Omnibus by Frank Miller and others

A classic Marvel hero redefined by one of comics’ greatest visionaries! Frank Miller’s spellbinding scripts and pulse-pounding pencils mark one of Daredevil’s greatest eras – but will the Kingpin and Bullseye’s efforts rob the Man Without Fear of everything he holds dear? Featuring the first appearances of Elektra, Stick and the Hand! The daring discovery that drew Ben Urich into Daredevil’s domain of darkness! And such forgotten-yet-formidable foes as Death-Stalker and the Gladiator! Take a rare look at the formative years of a brilliant creator and the series that made him famous as traditional super-heroics mix effortlessly with mysterious martial artistry, doomed romance and dark personal drama. Guest-starring the Hulk, the Avengers and Power Man and Iron Fist!

The second in the Daredevil Omnibus – the first one is just called volume 1 and its main author is listed as Stan Lee.

Fantastic four by Dan Slott volume 3

EMPYRE rocks the Fantastic Four! A never-before-seen Elder of the Universe unveils two new faces that will shake up Marvel’s First Family! But as the FF find themselves neck-deep in a cosmic conflict, Franklin and Valeria face a looming crisis back on Earth that calls for the aid of Spider-Man and Wolverine! A new era begins with new uniforms and a major status quo change – but who is the mysterious figure called the Helmsman? Is he here to save our reality or destroy it? Plus: Doctor Doom resurfaces! One of the most important characters in the Marvel Universe returns from the dead! And when the King in Black plunges the world into darkness, symbiotes will bond with two of the FF!

If you have the bind ups of the original run, starting with Fourever, then you don’t need this omnibus. But, if you are collecting this set of editions, then make sure you have the first two volumes.

Marauders by Gerry Duggan volume 2

Troubled waters for the Marauders! Double-dealing and backstabbing are the order of
the day within the Hellfire Trading Company, but killing Kate Pryde crossed the line.
Now the Black King must pay! And a resurrected Kate has some ideas about exactly
how. The seafaring Marauders return to Madripoor to pay tribute to a fallen friend –
but old enemies are being forged anew, and the team is about to face a nasty surprise!
Meanwhile, Ororo is looking to the future – one that takes her far beyond the horizon.
And as the Marauders point their bow to the stars, what threat awaits them out in the
cosmos – and why has it sworn vengeance? Secrets, lies and hidden agendas as the Marauders chart a course toward a new future for mutantkind!

I’ll have a reading guide up for this latest run of X-Men bind ups soon, but for now, make sure you’re caught up with both parts of Dawn Of X and Reign Of X. If you are collecting things under the names Dawn Of X/Reign Of X/Trials Of X, feel free to ignore this release, but if you are collecting things in team volumes, then you will need this if you’re reading Mauraders.

Miles Morales: Avenging Avenger by Brian Michael Bendis and Jason Latour

Spider-Man meets Spider-Gwen! The two most sensational web-spinners of the 21st century don’t just cross paths – they lock lips! Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy are two young heroes from different Earths, and a multiversal mission is about to upend both their lives! But as the plot thickens, will this spider-crossed pair see teen romance give way to arachnid animosity? Then, with Miles’ life turned upside down, his mother copes with startling new truths. Who can she turn to? Meanwhile, Miles needs a win – but when the Black Cat and Hammerhead incite an underworld gang war, things don’t end well for Miles. Will his battle against his inner demons consume him? Or can his amazing friends help him find his way back to the light?

You’ll need to have read both Brian Michael Benis’ Miles Morales and Jason Latour’s Spider-Gwen before reading this.

Silver Surfer Epic Collection: The Return Of Thanos by Steve Englehart and others

Kree-Skrull War II! The Silver Surfer has been manipulated into joining the conflict
between the Kree and the Skrulls, and now his homeworld of Zenn-La has become a
target! What sacrifice must Norrin Radd make to protect his people? As the war beever more complex, Shalla-Bal learns that one side has a traitor in its midst!
Both empires are being manipulated by outside forces, but can the Surfer discover
the truth before the bloodshed gets any worse? Then, to correct what she sees as
“the great imbalance,” Death has resurrected Thanos of Titan – and he means to kill
half of all living beings in the universe! Can the Surfer dissuade Thanos from this grim
task, or will Drax the Destroyer and the Impossible Man get in the way?

Here’s the first Silver Surfer Epic Collection run – the first volumes are called: When Galactus Calls, Freedom and Parable. There is a volume missing between When Galactus Calls and Freedom, so as per usual, be prepared to miss several key issues until it’s finally released.

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s going on your pull list? I’m looking at Bloodline and Demon Wars!
