7th December Marvel Comic Releases

We’ve got another great selection of new releases coming out from Marvel this week!

Single Issues:

Dark Web by Zeb Wells

DUSK!
The two most famous clones ever are back to take what’s theirs. Ben Reilly and Madelyne Pryor have had enough and are reigniting the INFERNO! Spider-Man and the X-Men are not ready for what’s coming, and what role does Venom have in all of this? The sun is setting, dusk is approaching, and it’s going to be a long night.

This has been set up in Zeb Well’s Amazing Spider-Man run, and is affecting the New Mutants, Venom, Ms Marvel and Mary Jane and Black Cat – I’ll be doing a full reading guide when the bind ups start arriving, as well as a guide to Ben Reilly and Madelyne Pryor.

Miles Morales Spider-Man by Cody Ziglar

“TRIAL BY SPIDER”!
SPIDER-MAN faces the strongest super-powered foes and most dangerous gauntlets the Multiverse can throw his way, and every time MILES MORALES falls, he rises again – stronger than before. Until now. There are some punches you don’t get up from and a new villain isn’t pulling a single one as they threaten everyone and everything Miles loves. Between school, home, his love life and battling super-charged and upgraded villains night and day – Miles is reaching his breaking point. And when this new foe is finished, Spider-Man’s world will be changed forever. Guest-starring MAC GARGAN, A.K.A. THE SCORPION!

I wouldn’t recommend this to people who are new to Miles as a character – I’ll be doing a full guide on him when Across The Spider-Verse comes out next year though!

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur by Jordan Ifeuko

Being a preteen super hero is hard. Doing it when your parents finally know about it is even harder. Good thing Lunella Lafayette (A.K.A. Moon Girl, Inhuman super-genius) has a plan to keep heroing. To provide herself with the perfect alibi, she organizes a roller derby team of other Inhuman kids. It’s just supposed to be an excuse to get out of the apartment with all her super-hero gear in tow, but it turns out to be kind of fun? But nothing is simple when you’re a super hero, and one of the kids on the team might just be more sinister than they appear.

I’d recommend having a bit of knowledge of Lunella first, as well as the Inhumans.

Thanos Death Notes by Christopher Cantwell and J Michael Straczynski

Spinning out of Donny Cates & Nic Klein’s THOR comes an all-new Thanos one-shot, with Ron Lim’s return to the Mad Titan! Thanos is missing, presumed dead. But Thor has seen a vision of his return. And it is enough to make even a God fear. To prepare himself, to prepare the universe, Thor desperately searches for answers in Thanos’ past… and finds a glimpse of the Marvel Universe’s dark future.

Like is says in the synopsis, this spins out of Donny Cates’ Thor run, so I’d read that first!

X-Treme X-Men by Chris Claremont

THE X-TREME TEAM IS BACK!
Legendary X-scribe Chris Claremont reunites with artistic dynamo Salvador Larroca for an all-new story set just after the ground-breaking original run of X-TREME X-MEN! A powerful psychic attack on KITTY PRYDE from her old enemy OGUN brings the X-Treme team back together for a high-stakes mission…but what secret is Ogun hiding, and will even the combined might of BISHOP, SAGE, GAMBIT, ROGUE, RACHEL SUMMERS, STORM and WOLVERINE be enough to stop his insidious plan? The X-citement starts here, with the kickoff to the arc that will have wide-reaching implications for some of your favorite X-characters!

You’ll definitely want to have read the original X-Treme X-Men run first – luckily for you, the first volume of the omnibus was just rereleased on the 30th of November!

Bind Ups:

Arana: Night Of The Hunter by Fiona Kai Avery and others

Sides are chosen, lives are lost and Araña will never be the same! Exactly what happened to Araña’s mother before she disappeared all those years ago? Startling new information on her family’s past may be too painful for Anya Corazon to bear! Meanwhile, the evil Sisterhood of the Wasp hosts a summit of fiends, rogues and villains so big that Araña just might have to crash the party! And the spectacular Spider-Man swings by just in time for Araña to learn what the future of the Wasp/Spider-Clan battle holds – and what it means for her destiny as the Hunter! Plus: Anya makes a new friend – Rikki Barnes, the teen hero known as Nomad – when they take on Mad Dog and the Secret Empire!

The first two volumes are: Heart Of The Spider and In The Beginning. These three are the only Arana stories out, so if you don’t have that much catching up to do with this character!

Black Panther by Christopher Priest Omnibus volume 1

T’Challa is the man with a plan as the Black Panther is reinvented in Christopher Priest’s brilliantly sharp and witty political satire! Prepare to see the king of Wakanda through new eyes: those of U.S. government attaché Everett K. Ross! When a new regime stages a coup in Wakanda, T’Challa finds himself an enemy of the state! The Black Panther is always two or three steps ahead – but with foes like Mephisto, Malice, Klaw and Killmonger against him, will T’Challa’s cool head and intricate maneuvers be enough to free his nation without alienating his allies and destabilizing the world? Plus: Meet Queen Divine Justice and the deadly Dora Milaje! Mixing super-heroics with geopolitics, humor and all-out action, Priest’s PANTHER is a masterpiece not to be missed!

A definitive Black Panther collection to read, especially after watching Wakanda Forever! You should be able to go into this without prereading anything too, as this run introduces key features of Wakanda, such as the Dora Milaje!

Immortal Hulk volume 5 by Al Ewing

Al Ewing and Joe Bennett’s acclaimed saga reaches its horrifying climax! The end begins with the rematch everybody wanted – but not like this! A broken and friendless Hulk is about to find out there’s nothing like the real Thing! All the while, the Leader’s dark designs are coming together – but will this be his greatest triumph at last, or will the horrific One Below All claim his due? As the gamma monsters all converge, one by one, on New York City, can anyone stop them? The Avengers give it their best shot – but the last time they fought the Hulk, they destroyed an entire town. And this Earth-shattering confrontation may be even more devastating! As horrible truths are revealed at last, what will it mean for Bruce Banner, his allies and the eternal life of the Immortal Hulk?!

The first four Hulk volumes should be just be numbered.

Inferno by Jonathan Hickman

He changed everything for mutantkind with HOUSE OF X and POWERS OF X. He explored the new Krakoan era in X-MEN. Now the keeper of the mutant flame, Jonathan Hickman, presents his final, incendiary X-saga! Mystique, former terrorist and espionage agent supreme, is loyal to Professor X’s Quiet Council for one reason only: the promise that someday they will resurrect her beloved Destiny. But when Moira MacTaggert helped Professor X and Magneto realize their lifelong dreams for mutantkind, it came with one condition: Do not allow any precognitive mutants on the island of Krakoa. What will Mystique do when she realizes she’s being strung along? Vengeance burns hot, and Mystique is about to ignite an Inferno! And where has the elusive Moira been all this time, anyway?

Same advice for the X-Men as usual applies, and I’ll do a full guide of the Hickman run soon.

Immortal X-Men by Kieron Gillen volume 1

Kieron Gillen returns to the world of X! The Quiet Council are the rulers of the Krakoan age, for better or worse. But now, shaken by INFERNO, they strive to hold their nation together – no matter how much they want to tear each other apart! And IMMORTAL X-MEN brings you inside the room where it all happens! As Magneto leaves the Council, his big shoes need to be filled. Selene demonstrating her foot size by crushing the whole island beneath it is unorthodox yet compelling. Can the Quiet Council resist? Meanwhile, the resurrected mutant seer called Destiny wrote her books of prophecy over one hundred years ago – and a sequel is long overdue! As the Council’s machinations grow desperate and Emma Frost prepares another Hellfire Gala, sinister secrets are laid bare – but some secrets are more sinister than others!

My usual X-Men advice still counts here, I’ll be doing another update to the reading order soon, when more bind ups come out.

King In Black Omnibus by Donny Cates

Darkness reigns in the Marvel Universe! After a campaign of terror across the galaxy, Knull – ancient and malevolent god of symbiotes – reaches Earth with an endless army of symbiote dragons at his command! The King in Black is a force unlike any ever faced by Venom and the rest of the planet’s heroes – but now Spider-Man, the Avengers, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the Sub-Mariner and more must battle an endless wave of darkness! Outgunned and badly outnumbered, can anyone possibly survive Knull’s symbiotic onslaught? Or will they all be forced to bow to the King in Black? Featuring every epic chapter in one monstrous, black-hearted volume!

The full omnibus of the King In Black event, so if you’ve read the first two parts to Donny Cates’ Venom run, then this is for you!

Marvel Masterworks: Invincible Iron Man volume 15 by David Michelinie and others

The hall of fame creative trio of Michelinie, Layton and Romita Jr. concludes its classic tenure with a run of stories that pushes the Armored Avenger to his limits! Tony Stark isn’t the only one constantly upgrading his tech when Whiplash returns with a fearsome set of augmented powers and a new codename: Blacklash! Then Ant-Man takes his I.T. role at Stark International to super-heroic lengths! And what happens when Doctor Doom and Iron Man travel back in time to the era of King Arthur’s Camelot? These two armored titans square off in “Doomquest!” Plus: The Living Laser, the Mauler and the Unicorn return to menace our man Stark. And wait until you see Iron Man’s awesome new stealth armor!

As always with Masterworks collections, each volume doesn’t have a name, it’s just numbered. And, as always, there may be gaps between published volumes, as Marvel doesn’t seem to be publishing anything in order in these series.

She-Hulk by Dan Slott Omnibus

Before he became a superstar on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Dan Slott delighted readers with his sensational SHE-HULK run! Jennifer Walters is a gammapowered Green Goliath just like her Hulkish cousin, but her home is in the courtroom – where she takes on some of the Marvel Universe’s wildest cases, litigating alongside coworkers like reformed android Awesome Andy and researching old Marvel comics to set legal precedents. Could She-Hulk’s career get any stranger? Sure – when she’s summoned to outer space to practice Universal Law for the Living Tribunal or pulled out of the timeline by the Time Variance Authority! But when the Superhuman Registration Act leads to a civil war, whose side will She-Hulk argue? Plus: all-out smackdowns against Titania, the Champion and an A-Z of the Hulk’s enemies!

If you wanted to read the entire Dan Slott She-Hulk run, then this is the book to buy, as it’s the entire collection in one BIG volume!

And that’s everything coming out this week! Who else is looking at putting Miles Morales on their pull list?
