I’ve mentioned Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Panther run multiple times across all of my Black Panther posts, so I think it’s about time I did a quick reading order for the run!
Pre-Reading:

You will definitely want to read Secret Wars and Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers/New Avengers first, as Shuri‘s plotline in the Coates run. I’ll have a reading guide to Secret Wars when the film comes out and will do an Avengers/New Avengers guide soon!
The Run:

The run starts with A Nation Under Our Feet volumes 1, 2 and 3.

Then it goes to The World Of Wakanda by Ta-Nahesi Coates and Roxanne Gay, which focuses more on the Dora Milaje, specifically, Ayo and Aneka!

Black Panther And The Crew: We Are The Streets is next – this doesn’t actually have much of T’Challa in it, but it was written by Coates at the same time as he was writing the rest of his Black Panther run, so I’m including it here.

T’Challa returns to the fore with Avengers Of The New World volumes 1 and 2.
A quick note here is that the issue numbers go from issue 18 to issue 166 because comics love to be confusing at every opportunity possible. As long as you stick to volume numbers, you should be fine!

Nnedi Okorafor then jumps in with Long Live The King, which is set within Coates’ run.

Then everything culminates with The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda volumes 1-4. This will look like there’s been a massive time jump, but it will eventually make sense so just go with it!
The Extras/Companions:

There are two extra, optional reads for this final part of the run, specifically Shuri volumes 1 and 2 and Wakanda Forever by Nnedi Okorafor. These are both set between volumes 1 and 2 of Intergalactic Empire, my advice would be to say that Shuri is essential, but Wakanda Forever is more of a fun extra!
And that’s everything for the Ta-Nehisi Coates run! If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll get your answers ASAP!
