November 2nd Marvel Comic Releases

We’re getting a fair amount of new releases this week, so let’s get going!

Single Issues:

Deadpool by Alyssa Wong

MARVEL’S TOP MERC IS BACK IN BUSINESS!
We all know Wade Wilson is one of the top mercenary/assassins in the Marvel Universe, even if he is simultaneously the most annoying one… but he’s pushing to make that recognition official as he auditions for the elite group known as the Atelier. Now, he has 48 hours to kill one of the world’s most famous supervillains. Only problem? He’s been kidnapped, and something…strange…is GROWING INSIDE HIM. Things are going to get gross as writer Alyssa Wong (DOCTOR APHRA, IRON FIST) and artist Martin Coccolo (BANNER OF WAR) take out their pent up aggression on everyone’s pizza-faced, jabber-mouthed, misguided, hate-to-love, love-to-hate fave… Deadpool!

Probably best to know a bit about Deadpool before reading this.

Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmis Rewind by Kevin Shinick

The Worldmind is collecting data for the new Xandar pavilion on Terra and who knows Earth better than Peter Quill? (Probably… a lot of people…  doesn’t know, is that a Celestial has been watching and waiting for the Guardians of the Galaxy to be distracted to begin his plan to wipe humanity from existence.

This actually ties into the Guardians Of The Galaxy ride at Epcot, but you don’t have to have ridden the ride to understand what’s going on – just have an idea of the Guardians and the Celestials.

Secret Invasion by Ryan North

THE SKRULLS ARE BACK…
•  …in a giant-sized issue kicking off an all-new five-part miniseries!
•  When Maria Hill detects the merest HINT of Skrulls, she acts quickly to put her defensive plans into action. And when Nick Fury is sent to investigate a Skrull sighting in Iowa, he finds the LAST thing he was expecting!
•  Our pale blue dot is in their sights, and this time, Earth’s old defences won’t work…
•  Find out who you REALLY trust: The invasion begins NOW.

You have to have read the original Secret Invasion by Brian Michael Bendis to read this, as well as have knowledge of the Skrulls. I’ll be doing a full guide to everything involved in this event when the Secret Invasion show drops on Disney+!

Tiger Division by Emily Kim

FIERCE FIGHTERS!
The defenders of South Korea take center stage! In their first ever solo series, you’ll learn more about TAEGUKGI, a powerhouse with a heart of gold; LADY BRIGHT, a card-wielding sorceress; MR. ENIGMA, a street-brawling demigod; THE GENERAL, a living totem; and GUN-R II, an android with an attitude. They’re joined by fan-favourites WHITE FOX and LUNA SNOW to form an unstoppable team

The debut of Marvel’s first-ever South Korean hero team! The only two you will have to look up are White Fox and Luna Snow, as everyone else is going to be explored more throughout the run.

Bind Ups:

Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky volume 3: To Heaven Through Hell

Better the devil you know – or the one you don’t? Matt Murdock continues to struggle with his demons, but he had better do it fast – because Hell’s Kitchen is burning, and his enemies aren’t inclined to give him any more time to heal. As Typhoid Mary and Bullseye make their murderous presence known once more, Matt makes a surprising stand with a shocking outcome – and a new Daredevil must rise! Elektra Natchios is a woman without fear, but does the world’s deadliest assassin have what it takes to be a hero and guardian for the city? Her new job is hard enough with Wilson Fisk as mayor and a cadre of lethal villains at his command, but how will Elektra react when the terrifying King in Black plunges the world into darkness?

Previous volumes are: Know Fear and No Devils, Only God.

Daredevil Epic Collection: It Cames With The Claws by Mark Gruenwald and others

Daredevil takes on all comers! The Man Without Fear faces the maniac without pain: the irrepressible Madcap! But that’s just a warmup for DD’s rematch with one of his most powerful foes: Mister Hyde! And the hits just keep coming as Klaw, Master of Sound, makes some noise, Chance tries his luck and the savage Sabretooth crosses Daredevil’s path right in the middle of the Mutant Massacre! Plus: DD’s old flame, the Black Widow, returns – but will Matt seize a second chance at life with Karen Page instead? Meanwhile, Hell’s Kitchen has more than its fair share of crime to fight – but why is Daredevil trading blows with Black Panther and Wolverine? And can a billy club stand up to adamantium claws?

Previous volumes are: The Man Without Fear, Mike Murdock Must Die!, Brother Take My Hand, A Woman Called Widow, Going Out West and Watch Out For Bullseye. But volumes 7-11 haven’t been published yet, so you will have missed a lot of story between Watch Out For Bullseye and It Comes With The Claws.

Heroes Reborn: America’s Mightiest Heroes Omnibus by Jason Aaron and others

Discover a world without Avengers! Tony Stark never built an iron armor. Thor is a hard-drinking atheist who despises hammers. Wakanda is dismissed as a myth. Captain America was never found in the ice. Instead, this planet has always been protected by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: the Squadron Supreme of America! But who is responsible for this altered Earth? Why is the vampire-hunting Blade the one man who remembers how things should be? And what will he do about it? It’s the complete saga of a world reborn, featuring familiar faces as you’ve never seen them before!

The collected edition of the entire Heroes Reborn run, so if you have the other bind ups, then feel free to ignore this omnibus.

Maestro: World War M by Peter David

The final chapter of Peter David’s epic prequel trilogy! A.I.M., the Pantheon and even Doctor Doom have all fallen before his might. Finally, the Maestro – the gamma-spawned tyrant once known as the Hulk – can reign over his kingdom of Dystopia with a firm green fist. But there are greater threats still lurking in the arid landscape of this ruined Earth, and even the Maestro didn’t count on the Abomination rising from the dead and forming an alliance with the Sub-Mariner and a vengeance-crazed Doom! When Emil Blonsky turns out to be just the opening salvo of a larger attack, can the Maestro continue to out-smash and outwit the forces that want him dead? Prepare for World War M!

Previous volumes are Maestro and Maestro: War and Pax. I’ll do an explainer on Maestro later on, as he’s got a rather convoluted storyline!

Power Man And Iron Fist Epic Collection: Hardball by Christopher Priest and others

Is this the end of a beautiful friendship? The original POWER MAN AND IRON FIST series races to its conclusion as the duo faces a rematch with old foes Nightshade, Discus, Stiletto, the Eel and Man Mountain Marko. But who is Captain Hero? And what does this powerhouse want from Luke Cage? Iron Fist shares a team-up with the Falcon at Project PEGASUS – where there’s a murderer on the loose! And Cage is recruited to take on the terrorist group named Control-7! But why is Danny Rand suddenly old and dying? And if he can somehow return to K’un-Lun to be healed, what will be the terrible price? As the Dragon King’s brother attacks and Iron Fist sees red, tragedy will tear apart the Heroes for Hire!

Previous volumes are: Heroes For Hire, Revenge! and Doombringer.

Spider-Gwen: Unmasked by Jason Latour

What’s the next evolutionary step for Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman? Would you believe…Gwenom?! Gwen’s life irrevocably changes when she bonds with her universe’s version of the Venom symbiote. What does this change mean for her relationship with crime kingpin Matt Murdock? With her father? With…the Osborns?! It’s Spider-Gwen like you’ve never seen her before – and to defeat Murdock, Gwen must let Venom win! But there’s a problem: If Murdock dies, then so does she! Does fate only hold one end for Gwen? Or will the drastic move of going public with her double identity offer her some hope of survival? Find out as our spectacular hero faces her future and stands trial – with everything at stake! Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez complete their thrilling saga of Spider-Gwen!

This is an omnibus edition of the series, so be careful to not buy the same volumes twice! Weirdly, from what I can tell this version of the series is usually just numbered, with this voluming being the fourth volume.

Spider-Man 2099: Exodus by Steve Orlando

A brave, new tomorrow begins for the world of 2099! After fighting battles across the timestream, Miguel O’Hara – Spider-Man of the year 2099 – is back home at last, defending his present…and our future! But the only constant about life in Nueva York is change. So when a cataclysmic crash creates a new Garden of Eden in the American Wastelands, Spider-Man knows exactly what the next atrocity will be. The deadly Cabal plans to set society ablaze, and you’ll never guess who is leading them! Meanwhile, everyone’s got something to gain from Paradise – including Winter Soldier 13! And as the Cabal preys upon society’s dregs, Loki – last survivor of Ragnarok – schemes to resurrect Asgard! Featuring the X-Men, Moon Knight, Black Widow and New Avengers of the future!

I wouldn’t read this without knowing anything about Spider-Man 2099, Moon Knight, Black Widow, the X-Men and the New Avengers!

X-Men Red by Al Ewing volume 1

Who can save the red planet? The mutants of Arakko spent millennia scarred by war – but on the world once called Mars, they’re learning to live in peace. Storm knows something greater than a queen is needed to keep this fragile new world together – but while she has a broken Magneto in her corner, Roberto Da Costa is making his own moves. Abigail Brand of S.W.O.R.D. has other plans to influence Arakko, with an unstable Vulcan on her side and Cable keeping his own secrets! And what of the ruthless Tarn the Uncaring, who now sits on the planet’s ruling council? As machinations and revelations rock the red planet, the clock ticks down to interstellar war – and judgment day is coming. It’s a new world full of intrigue, and someone has to fight for it!

Same advice as always when it comes to new X-Men runs – if you’re collecting the individual teams bind ups, then you’ll next this, if you’re going through the Dawn Of X/Reign Of X named bind ups, then you won’t need it.

Venom by Al Ewing and Ram V volume 2: Deviation

The new Venom is in the fight of his life – and he may be in it alone! As Dylan Brock and his symbiote continue to learn to live together without Eddie Brock, the Life Foundation has activated a deadly new operative named the Spearhead! Dylan and Venom aren’t the only ones dead in his sights: Every single symbiote that they (and you!) have ever known and cared about is a target as well! And without Eddie’s guidance, Dylan stands poised to give into the same darkness that his father once did. Meanwhile, Eddie is still getting used to his new place in the symbiote hive. But little does he know that his battle across the cosmos has only just begun – and Kang the Conqueror has a front-row seat for its first act!

First volume is this Venom run is Recursion.

X-Treme X-Men by Claremont Omnibus volume 1

Extreme challenges demand X-Treme X-Men! The legendary Chris Claremont and fan-favorite artist Salvador Larroca send an elite squad of X-Men on a worldwide hunt for the Books of Destiny – which foretell the future of mutantkind! But when Storm, Beast, Bishop, Psylocke, Rogue, Sage and the new Thunderbird come under attack, one will fall at the hands of the deadly Vargas! Meanwhile, Gambit is accused of a terrible crime, and new mutants emerge just in time to face an invading alien armada! Can the X-Treme team hold back the armies of Khan? Plus: the Reavers, the Shadow King, the Savage Land and a terrifying telepathic threat targets Xavier’s School!

I’d definitely make sure I knew a fair amount about everyone mentioned here, and of Chris Claremont’s X-Men run in general, before going near this.

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s going on your pull list? I’m looking at Deadpool, Secret Invasion and Heroes Reborn!
