14th September Marvel Comic Releases

It’s that time of the week again, and it’s another small new comic book day!

But before we get started – if you’re wondering if I’m covering everything announced during Marvel’s panel at D23 this weekend, I will be as each project is released! If you can’t wait that long, then comment underneath this post and I’ll answer your questions there (And I’m commenting more about it all on my TikTok @cbooksanctum)

Single Issues:

Midnight Suns by Ethan Sacks

RISE OF THE MIDNIGHT SUNS!
A dark prophesy and apocalyptic new villains with horrifying powers the likes of which Earth has never faced before ordains a team of MIDNIGHT SUNS to rise and tear @#$% up: MAGIK, WOLVERINE, BLADE, SPIRIT RIDER & NICO MINORU. But what does this new threat have to do with the Sorcerer Supreme’s past? And why is STRANGE ACADEMY student ZOE LAVEAU number one on the Suns’ list?

The Midnight Suns are a team who face more supernatural threats in the Marvel Universe, and this one specifically ties into the latest Runaways run, as well as Strange Academy and Death Of Doctor Strange, so I’d be caught up on those first, and have at least a passing knowledge of the characters mentioned – I’ve got a character profile on Magik ready for you if you need it!

Ms Marvel and Venom by Jody Houser

DEADLY SYMBIOSIS!
VENOM is on the hunt-ut who is hunting Venom?! MS. MARVEL teams up with Dylan Brock, the new wicked web-slinger on the block, as a scheme to harness the symbiote rears its ugly head! The first Venom/Ms. Marvel partnership is also the concluding movement of the super hero symphony of the summer, as we reveal the connection between WOLVERINE, MOON KNIGHT and VENOM, and KAMALA KHAN’S team-up uncovers the larger plot behind it all-you will NOT believe who’s pulling the strings!

I’d make sure to have read the previous Ms Marvel stories mentioned in the synopsis, as well as caught up with all things Venom by Donny Cates, where Dylan makes his debut.

Bind Ups:

Spider-Verse: Amazing Spider-Man by Stan Lee and others

In a whole Spider-Verse of spectacular super heroes, you just can’t beat the original, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Celebrate the ever-amazing Peter Parker and his crazy, nonstop life with these sensational adventures in web-slinging! First, discover – along with Peter – why with great power, there must also come great responsibility in an all-action retelling of Spidey’s origin! Join the wall-crawler and his biggest critic, J. Jonah Jameson, in the clutches of the Kingpin of Crime! See Peter’s Broadway plans ruined by the machinations of the Crime Master! And as the ol’ Parker luck strikes yet again, feel the reptilian rage of the deadly Lizard – and learn whether Spidey must sacrifice his own future to save the day!

A selection of old Spidey stories, including a retelling of his origin!

What If…? Miles Morales by Cody Ziglar and others

What if Miles Morales had never been bitten by a genetically enhanced spider? What if, instead, the U.S. government recruited, trained and granted him incredible powers with the Super-Soldier Serum, making him a friendly neighborhood Captain America? Or perhaps Miles was taken from everything he ever knew – his family, his home, his entire life – and transformed into the immortal weapon of war known as the Wolverine! If he was blasted by gamma radiation and turned into a Hulk, would Miles be man or monster? And are there other super heroes the many Miles of the Multiverse might have become instead of Spider-Man? You bet there are! Learn what makes Miles Morales a hero no matter the circumstances, no matter the reality!

A series of What If…? stories all about Miles, so there’s nothing to catch up on/worry about tie-ins, you just need to know who Miles is!

Ben Reilly Spider-Man by J.M. Dematteis

Journey back in time to another sensational era of Spidey storytelling! In the proud tradition of SYMBIOTE SPIDER-MAN comes brand-new tale starring Peter Parker’s clone Ben Reilly, set during his first stint as Spider-Man! When a mysterious figure from the past crawls his way back into Ben’s life, does the foreboding Ravencroft Institute hold the key to their identity? And after five years lived on the road, followed by the madness of the Clone Saga, can Ben truly handle what it means to be Spider-Man? He’ll have to learn quickly when he faces a gauntlet of his most fearsome foes! Legendary scribe J.M. DeMatteis and kinetic artist David Balde n return readers to a tumultuous time in comic books – when Ben Reilly, not Peter Parker, was the one true Spider-Man!

I’d say you’d definitely need to know who Ben Reilly is before reading this, as well as learning about the Clone Saga and everything else mentioned in the synopsis – I’ll do a reading guide to Ben Reilly later!

And that’s everything coming out this week, what’s going on your pull list? I’m definitely checking out Midnight Suns and What If…? Miles Morales!
