31st August Marvel Comic Releases

New Comic Book Day this week only has four new releases, so we have a short post today!

Single Issues:

Amazing Fantasy issue 1000 by Kurt Busiek, Neil Gaiman, Michael Cho and more

The comic that brought you SPIDER-MAN hits issue #1000! We’re going big to celebrate in this, our thousandth issue of AMAZING FANTASY! An ALL-STAR roster of creators – Anthony Falcone, Dan Slott, Ho Che Anderson, Jonathan Hickman, Kurt Busiek, Michael Cho, Neil Gaiman, Rainbow Rowell, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Jim Cheung, Marco Checchetto, Olivier Coipel, Ryan Stegman, Steve McNiven, Terry Dodson, Todd Nauck, and more – are coming together to celebrate Peter Parker and Spider-Man’s birthdays!

Celebrating 60 years of Spider-Man with brand new one-off stories set in the past, present, and future of Spider-Man, all written by all-star authors! Now you don’t need to read 999 issues of Amazing Fantasy to read this (there’s actually far less than that, Marvel just wanted to round up the number), just have a basic knowledge of Spider-Man and you should be good to go!

Thunderbolts by Jim Zub

Super-powered crooks have taken hostages in Staten Island?
A dimensional rift tears open in Chinatown?
Monsters running amok at the Met?
Call in the THUNDER!
New York City’s finest are here to save the day –
Hawkeye, Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, Persuasion and Gutsen Glory!
You know ’em, you love ’em…they’re the Thunderbolts!
In the aftermath of Devil’s Reign, the Big Apple has big problems, and it’s up to a new group of Thunderbolts to turn things around. But when Clint Barton gets tasked with heading up this team and proving they can go toe-to-toe with anything the Marvel Universe can throw at them, the first opponent he’s going to have to face is himself.

Before reading this, I’d recommend having knowledge of Hawkeye, Spectrum, America and everyone else mentioned (and Devil’s Reign). I’ll have more on Thunderbolts as a team when the film comes out!

Bind Ups:

Wastelanders by Steven S. DeKnight and more

Return to the dystopian future world where the villains won! Get ready for shocking new stories from a disturbing world, taking their cue from the breakout podcast inspired by the original OLD MAN LOGAN saga! For Logan, saving the day looks very different with a baby Hulk in his arms – and protecting the child may be his downfall! Learn how a blind Hawkeye trained with the man once known as Daredevil! The mysterious Black Widow infiltrates the deadly land of the Lizard King! A guilt-ridden Peter Quill visits the site where he lost his great love! And as he rules over his domain in the Wastelands, a greater destiny calls to Doom!

You’ll want to have read Old Man Logan and listened to the podcast mentioned in. the synopsis before reading this.

Silk volume two: Age Of The Witch by Emily Kim

Silk is back! Cindy Moon returns as the web-spinning spider-hero! As Silk gains popularity in the public eye, Cindy begins questioning her place in the world. But existentialism will have to wait – because a powerful new villain has been turned loose! An ancient, wicked witch is draining the life force out of young people, and Silk has to figure out how to stop her before she claims another victim. But what Cindy doesn’t know is that she is the witch’s next target! In a race against the clock to stop this evil sorceress from putting her grand plan in motion, Silk will discover the dangers of ancient Korean magic…and social media.

You’ll want to read Robbie Thompson’s Silk run first, as well as volume one, which is called Threats And Menaces.

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s going on your pull list? I’m looking at Amazing Fantasy 1000 and Thunderbolts!
