3rd August Marvel Comic Releases

It’s a new month, and the first week is bringing us some brilliant new comics!

Single Issues:

Demon Wars: The Iron Samurai by Peach Momoko

Journey into the imagination of STORMBREAKER PEACH MOMOKO with DEMON WARS!
Peach takes her version of the Marvel Universe to the next level by transporting readers to another dimension – one filled with wondrous creatures: sentient samurai armour, a winged individual in a falcon mask, a mysterious panther person and a red, snakelike monster with a deadly appetite. When Mariko Yashida finds herself in the middle of a war between these creatures, will she be forced to choose a side? Don’t miss the next evolution of the Peach Momoko’s Marvel Universe!

I’d recommend reading Peach Momoko’s previous works before this – I’ll have a reading guide up soon.

Edge Of Spider-Verse by Dan Slott

edge (‘ej) noun – 1. outermost limit of an object – 2. the sharp side of a blade
The leading edge of the Spider-Verse brought you Spider-Gwen and Peni Parker. This final edge will introduce you to some of the most important characters in the future of the Spider-Verse…but it will also slice the final strand of the web.

I’d recommend being caught up with the Spider-Verse and knowing at least a bit about Spider-Noir and the others mentioned in this synopsis.

Bind Ups:

Avengers Epic Collection: Kang War by Steve Englehart and others

Throughout his AVENGERS run, Steve Englehart slowly built the mysterious Mantis into one of ’70s Marvel’s most intriguing characters. Here, her tale reaches its cosmic climax in a saga spanning space and time: “The Celestial Madonna!” When Kang the Conqueror arrives, the action begins. Before it’s over, Kang, Rama-Tut and Immortus will have you time-twisted in two. And that’s just for starters! The origin of the Vision is revealed, and he and the Scarlet Witch wed! Then, the Avengers put out a call for new members. Beast, Hellcat and Moondragon join – while Captain America, Yellowjacket and the Wasp return. Each will be tested in a second war with Kang and the Squadron Sinister! It’s a classic conflict that teams the Avengers with the heroes of the Old West!

Previous volumes in this epic collection are: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Once An Avenger, Masters Of Evil, Behold… The Vision, This Beachhead Earth, A Traitor Stalks Within Us and Avengers/Defenders War. I’d also recommend knowing about Kang The Conquerer before reading this.

Captain America: Heroes Return Complete Collection volume 2 by Mark Waid and others

Captain America is at his weakest! With his shield shattered and his powers drained, Cap finds himself trapped in the future, facing the Red Skull – who has the might of the Cosmic Cube at his fingertips! And waiting in the wings is the man who killed the Avengers: Korvac! Then, if the Sentinel of Liberty can somehow survive that, the destruction of his fabled shield has unleashed a “Vibranium cancer” wave that threatens to destroy every piece of the miracle metal on Earth! As Cap races to contain the invisible threat, the villainous Klaw prepares to capitalize on it! Writer Mark Waid wraps up his legendary Cap run in style! Plus: Steve Rogers goes undercover behind bars, faces Crossbones and the Absorbing Man and battles the terrorist threats of Hydra and FlagSmasher!

The first volume is called volume 1.

Fantastic Four volume 10: Reckoning War Part 1 by Dan Slott

A cosmic saga years in the making! Before the Kree, Skrull or Shi’ar Empires…before the emergence of Galactus…before the birth of Asgard…there was the First War. The greatest conflict to ever rage across the Multiverse. Today, it is reignited. This…is the Day of Reckoning! And all that stands between all of reality and revenge from the dawn of time are the heroes of Earth – and the mind of Mister Fantastic! Starring the FF, She-Hulk, Jack of Hearts, the Unseen, the Silver Surfer, Thor, Doctor Doom, the Watcher and everyone in the whole dang Marvel Universe, this is the story Dan Slott has been waiting his whole career to tell! And for the Multiverse to survive, the Watchers must all break their most sacred oath!

Previous volumes are: Fourever, Mr And Mrs Grimm, The Herald Of Doom, Thing Vs Immortal Hulk, Point Of Origin, Empyre, The Forever Gate, The Bride Of Doom and Eternal Flame. It would also be an idea to read Empyre as an event, to ensure you’ve seen everything the Fantastic Four have been up to in the lead-up to this.

Generation X Epic Collection volume 1: Emplates Revenge by Scott Lobdell

The next generation of X-Men must grow up fast! Generation X welcomes the mutant called Mondo to their ranks – just in time for Omega Red to attack! And with Banshee lying at death’s door, Chamber may be the last man standing! Then the team’s deadliest and most horrifying foe returns: M’s evil brother, Emplate! And he’s hungry for more than vengeance! Even if the students can avoid becoming Emplate’s next meal, will a surprising transformation consume one of their own? Plus: The White Queen goes to extreme lengths to protect the students from Onslaught, Franklin Richards joins the school in the wake of tragedy and Chamber and Husk’s romance reaches a tipping point! Guest-starring Howard the Duck!

The first in this Epic Collection, though I’d still recommend knowing a bit about the characters mentioned, just in case.

Mighty Marvel Masterworks X-Men volume 2: Where Walks Juggernaut by Stan Lee

The X-Men blend super hero action, teen angst and a potent metaphor for the turbulent issues of the ’60s into one powerful package! And in this volume, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby finished laying the foundation for what would later become comics’ biggest franchise! Experience the unstoppable Juggernaut’s devastating debut and learn his shocking connection to Professor X! Plus: Thrill to the first appearances of the cosmic Stranger, the power-copying Mimic, and – in a classic three-part saga – the mutant-hunting robots known as the Sentinels! And for good measure, it’s all topped off with the return of Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants – and a devastating attack on the X-Men’s school! They’re mutant milestones one and all!

The first one is called The Strangest Heroes Of All.

Strange Academy volume 3: Wish-Craft by Skottie Young

School life doesn’t get any easier for the students of the mystic arts! When the Strange Academy kids go out for a night on the town in New Orleans, some of the students decide to take a tour of a famous NOLA graveyard – and you know how stories about teens in graveyards usually go! But Emily takes a very different field trip of her own – and the secret origin of Zoe Laveau will be revealed! Then, nothing can prepare you for a glimpse of the future of the Strange Academy – and the entire Marvel Universe. You won’t believe your eyes! But which will be more brutal: battle class with Magik and Wong, or the school dance?! Who will find love, and whose heart will be broken? Plus: The ancient evil known as Gaslamp makes its intentions clear!

The first two are called First Class and Bright Side, this also ties into Death Of Doctor Strange, so I’d recommend having that on hand too.

Wolverine Epic Collection: Tooth And Claw by Larry Hama and others

The animal unleashed! Horribly transformed from a failed attempt to regain his Adamantium, a tormented and animalistic Wolverine teeters on the brink of going completely feral. Can the enigmatic assassin Elektra help him fight his way back from the edge? Mentoring Logan in the martial arts, she challenges him to re-forge his humanity – and he’ll need it when Onslaught rips the X-Men apart! Plus: When ninja strike, Yukio and Amiko become targets in Japan! Wolverine teams up with Venom in a wild interdimensional adventure! And look back into Logan’s long history, from his post-World War II life in Japan to his days as a spy alongside Carol Danvers!

Previous volumes are: Madripoor Nights, Back To Basics, Blood And Claws, Inner Fury and The Dying Game.

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s going on your pull list? I’m definitely going for the latest Strange Academy and Fantastic Four! Tell me yours down below!
