29th June Marvel Comic Releases

It’s a small New Comic Book Day this week!

Single Issues:

Iron Cat by Jed MacKay

The Iron Cat armor made its first appearance in BLACK CAT #11 but both Black Cat and Iron Man thought that was the last they would see of it. If Felicia is surprised to see the armor again, you can imagine how furious Tony is. There’s someone new in the Iron Cat armor and they have a plan that will put them in the crosshairs of all the heroes of the Marvel Universe. Both Iron Man and Black Cat’s secrets and mistakes are going to come back to haunt them and it’s going to get ROUGH! Don’t miss this fantastic new miniseries!

You’ll definitely want to be caught up with Black Cat before reading this!

Mech Strike Monster Hunters by Christos Gage

In AVENGERS: MECH STRIKE, the Avengers donned new mech armour to battle an unprecedented threat. Now a trio of the world’s most notorious super villains, assembled by Doctor Doom, have used the Eye of the Kraken to give themselves a mystical – and monstrous! – upgrade. In order to defeat their foes, the Avengers must undergo a similar transformation – and become MONSTER HUNTERS! But will the heroes be consumed by their dark new powers? Featuring classic Avengers characters and some surprising new additions to the team, all outfitted in their very own mech armour!

I’d recommend reading Avengers: Mech Strike first.

Variants by Gail Simone

What would it really be like to meet an alternate version of yourself, another you who had made different choices and lived a completely different life as a result? That’s the question facing Jessica Jones, as what seemed like a routine investigation instead has her encountering other incarnations of herself from across the Multiverse. Can Jessica get along with herself? Will she want to kill her other selves? And will seeing the lives she could have led drive her into a self-destructive spiral? This is what happens when you meet…the Variants!

I’d recommend having at the very least knowledge of Jessica Jones from her tv show, but it would be best to also read a few of her comics too.

Bind Ups:

Thor: Saga Of Gorr The God Butcher by Jason Aaron

A trail of blood consumes Thor’s past, present and future! Gods are vanishing across the ages, and Thor must unravel the gruesome mystery of Gorr the God Butcher! In the distant past, Thor discovers a cave echoing with the cries of tortured gods! In the present, Thor follows the bloody wake of murdered gods across the depths of space. And millennia from now, the last god-king of Asgard makes his final stand against Gorr’s berserker legions. As Thors from three eras race to stop Gorr, his scheme’s full extent is revealed: What is the Godbomb? At the end of time, the universe’s remaining gods are enslaved, building a machine that will forever change the face of creation. Three time-bending Thors unite, but will it all be for naught as the massive Godbomb is triggered?

There’s no better time to read this than now, as this is the basis of the film Thor: Love And Thunder. Check out my full Thor by Jason Aaron reading guide to see if you need to get this bind up, or if you already own it in a different volume!

Ms Marvel: Beyond The Limit by Samira Ahmed

The greatest hero of the new generation returns! After an interdimensional explosion at her cousin’s lab, Kamala Khan suddenly has a doppelganger to deal with! As Ms. Marvel, it’s her duty to help out the newcomer – but something doesn’t feel quite right. Kamala’s powers are on the fritz, and she suspects that this new hero-in-training isn’t trustworthy. Can a misfiring Ms. Marvel protect her good name when the copycat goes wild? And why has everything around her…turned into a Bollywood set?! Why is everyone singing – and how can she make it stop? New York Times best-selling author Samira Ahmed (Love, Hate & Other Filters; Internment; Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know) brings all the flair of her young adult fiction to the always-surprising world of Ms. Marvel!

Kamala‘s latest run, so make sure you’re all caught up on Kamala’s previous runs before reading this!

Jane Foster: Saga Of Valkyrie by Jason Aaron

Death is not the end! When the Goddess of Thunder falls, that doesn’t mean that Dr. Jane Foster’s epic journey is over. The woman who was Thor claims a new heroic legacy…as the last Asgardian Valkyrie! Jane takes over as the guide and ferrywoman to the dead – and she’s going to be busy, because the lethal killer Bullseye is on the loose, with an Asgardian weapon in hand! As one ally is lost, new friendships are forged with marvelous medics Doctor Strange, Night Nurse and the Excalibur-wielding Dr. Faiza Hussain. But who is their patient? Plus, Valkyrie reunites with the Odinson! And meet your new favorite talking steed, Mr. Horse!

The last part on Jane’s story in Jason Aaron’s run – again, make sure to check out my Thor reading guide before buying this and be prepared to also read War of The Realms, as this volume ties into that event.

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s going on your pull list? I’m eyeing up the latest Ms Marvel!
