20th April Marvel Comic Releases

A lot fewer new releases this week, but still there are some great new series starts and some great series continuations!

Single Issues:

Doctor Strange: Nexus Of Nightmares by Ralph Macchio

TO DREAM OR NOT TO DREAM!
Nightmare has invaded Doctor Strange’s dreams and turned them into terrible nightmares! These dark feelings now inhabit every fiber of Doctor Strange’s waking life and has left him weak and unable to protect the realm! Now, Baron Mordo and Nightmare are ready to strike! Can Stephen shake Nightmare’s grip over him? Or will the world be lost to Nightmare’s dream realm forever!

A one-shot set in Stephen’s past, and designed to be a jumping-off point for people new to Doctor Strange, this is a perfect read for anyone who is gearing up for Multiverse Of Madness next month! Also, just as a note, this is set before the most recent run (though it’s not clear when this is set), The Death Of Doctor Strange, so you don’t have to be caught up with that to read this.

FCBD 2022: Avengers/X-Men by Kieron Gillen, Gerry Duggan and Danny Lore

Featuring stories by an all-star lineup of creators including writers Kieron Gillen and Gerry Duggan and artist Dustin Weaver, FREE COMIC BOOK DAY: AVENGERS/X-MEN #1 will lay the groundwork for an event that will erupt across the Marvel Universe in 2022 and drastically alter the relationship between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and mutantkind.

Marvel’s next all-encompassing event is coming, and you will definitely want to read this beforehand! And what’s even better – this is part of Free Comic Book Day, so it’s completely free to get!

Captain America by Tochi Onyebuchi, Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing

When Arnim Zola launches a catastrophic attack on New York City, he meets his match – in Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers! In the explosive battle that follows, two Captain Americas prove better than one, and Sam and Steve decide they might just keep a good thing going…

I’d definitely recommend having at least a bit of knowledge on Sam’s time as Captain America, Steve Rogers as Captain America, and Arnim Zola (who is VERY different from his MCU counterpart) before going into this.

Bind Ups:

Amazing Spider-Man Beyond Volume 3 by Zeb Wells and various

When Doc Ock strikes, Ben Reilly will be shaken to the core – and so will you! It’s an event fans will remember for years to come. And in the aftermath of Ock’s attack, Captain America and the Black Cat need to know one thing: Can the still-recovering Peter Parker step up and be Spider-Man again? Then, Goblins have bedeviled Spider-Man for years – and Ben is about to face a new one all his own. Nothing can prepare you…for the Queen Goblin! Meanwhile, the Black Cat is kidnapped, and only Mary Jane Watson can save her! And did you think the Beyond Corporation only had one hero on its payroll? Meet the Slingers – and see Hobie Brown ascend to new heights as the Hornet!

You’ll definitely want to read Nick Spencer’s Spider-Man run and the previous Amazing Spider-Man Beyond volumes.

Inferno by Jonathan Hickman

He changed everything for mutantkind with HOUSE OF X and POWERS OF X. He explored the new Krakoan era in X-MEN. Now the keeper of the mutant flame, Jonathan Hickman, presents his final, incendiary X-saga! Mystique, former terrorist and espionage agent supreme, is loyal to Professor X’s Quiet Council for one reason only: the promise that someday he will resurrect her beloved Destiny. But when Moira MacTaggert helped Professor X and Magneto realize their lifelong dreams for mutantkind, it came with one condition: Do not allow any precognitive mutants on the island of Krakoa. What will Mystique do when she realizes she’s being strung along? Vengeance burns hot, and Mystique is about to ignite an Inferno! And where has the elusive Moira been all
this time, anyway?

You’ll want to read the entire Dawn Of X (part two) and Reign Of X runs first. I’ll do another reading guide for the series when a few more bind ups have been released.

Reign Of X Volume 11 by Si Spurrier and various

Not everyone will make the party event of the Reign of X! Nightcrawler sure will, but first he must uncover the dark force hidden within Krakoa! Young Cable won’t make it to the Hellfire Gala – this year or any other – as he learns that some summers end too soon. Meanwhile, the big night sounds like the perfect opportunity for the Children of the Atom to finally rub shoulders with mutant royalty. After all, Krakoa is their homeland…right?

Speaking of the Reign Of X, this is the next part in the run’s bind ups!

Savage She-Hulk Omnibus by David Anthony Kraft and Stan Lee

The complete original adventures of She-Hulk in one mighty Omnibus! When criminal defense attorney Jennifer Walters is shot by a mob hitman, her cousin saves her life with a blood transfusion – but that cousin is Bruce Banner, and his gamma-irradiated blood turns Jen into the savage She-Hulk! Suddenly, she’s a mean, green lawyering machine, and criminals the world over had better watch out. Conflict rages not just between She-Hulk and the many super-powered enemies in store, but between She-Hulk and Jennifer Walters as well! Our heroine’s two halves are in a battle for control as She-Hulk fights transforming back into Jen, while Jen risks losing herself in the She-Hulk’s power. And each has their own separate romantic interest to boot! It ain’t easy being green!

If you’re looking for the origins of She-Hulk before her new series airs on Disney+, this is the place to go!

X-Force Epic Collection: Zero Tolerance by John Francis Moore and various

Zero tolerance – maximum action! As the U.S. government’s mutant-hunting Prime Sentinels target the villainous Mutant Liberation Front, X-Force is caught in the middle! What is their old friend Dani Moonstar doing with the MLF? And when the Sentinels capture half the team, can the ragtag remainder pull together to rescue them? Meanwhile, an old foe with an ax to grind targets Domino, and X-Force breaks away from Cable and hits the road! But their crosscountry trip may prove fatal for Warpath, who’s in for a hellish time – with Stryfe! Plus: Sunspot and Meltdown get close, but what is Bobby’s connection to the ruthless Reignfire? Karma returns as the team attends Burning Man! Moonstar runs afoul of the Deviants! Flashback to the early days of the Proudstar brothers! And Domino battles…Shatterstar?!

This is volume 7 to the Epic Collection, and annoyingly, the only previous volumes that have been released are volumes 1 and 2, so you may be a bit confused, as you’re missing five volumes. Hopefully, they’ll be released soon! But for now, the names of the first two volumes are: Under The Gun and X-Cutioner’s Song.

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s on your pull list? I’ll be picking up Avengers/X-Men, Doctor Strange and Reign Of X 11!
