9th March Marvel Comic Releases

Marvel is releasing a bumper crop of new issues and bind ups this week, so let’s have an explore of what’s coming out!

Single Issues:

Captain Carter by Jamie McKelvie

A reality where Agent Peggy Carter took the Super-Soldier Serum is turned upside down when the World War II hero is pulled from the ice where she was lost in action decades before. Peggy struggles to find her footing in a modern world that’s gotten a lot more complicated – cities are louder, technology is smarter and enemies wear friendly faces. Everyone with an agenda wants Captain Carter on their side, but what does Peggy want? And will she have time to figure it out when mysterious forces are already gunning for her?

If you are anything like me and absolutely loved Captain Carter in What If…? then this is the comic for you! This isn’t following that specific Peggy, or the one from Exiles, as far as I can tell, but it should still be a fun ride!

Devil’s Reign: Moon Knight by Jed MacKay

After being arrested by the Thunderbolts as part of WILSON FISK’S crackdown on costumed heroes, MOON KNIGHT is now a prisoner in the high-tech Myrmidon. Surrounded by hostile guards and many of the very criminals he helped put away, MARC SPECTOR must fight for his survival. But Moon Knight’s quest for justice doesn’t end just because of a little light incarceration…

You’ll need to be caught up with Devil’s Reign before reading this – I’ll have a guide up once bind ups start being released. For now, my advice is to read any Marvel comic with the phrase ‘Devil’s Reign’ in the title.

Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse by Tin Seeley

NOT ENOUGH GWENS!
When Gwen Stacy was bitten by a radioactive spider, she gained arachnid-like super-powers and started a crimefighting career as Spider-Woman (or as she’s affectionately known to her peers, Ghost-Spider)! But what would have happened if instead she had picked up the enchanted hammer, Mjolnir? Or if she received the Super-Soldier Serum? Or built a high-tech suit of armor? Or…you get the idea! Find out in this new five-issue miniseries by Tim Seeley (HEROES REBORN: MARVEL DOUBLE ACTION) and Jodi Nishijima (UNITED STATES OF CAPTAIN AMERICA) as Ghost-Spider tumbles through time and comes face-to-face with herselves!

A Gwen-centric Spider-Verse story – I’d recommend having pre-knowledge of Gwen as a character and reading the Ghost-Spider story by Seanan McGuire, so you’re caught up with main Gwen’s storyline and you know a bit about her world before diving into this.

Women Of Marvel by Charlie Jane Anders and more

CELEBRATE THE PHENOMENAL WOMEN OF MARVEL WITH TALES SPUN FROM THE GREATEST MINDS IN COMICS!

The talented women creators who have made Marvel the powerhouse that it is take on fan-favourite female characters within the Marvel Universe. From seasoned veterans to up-and-coming talent, this cast of writers and artists gives their own spin on beloved heroines, showing the fire, mystery, grace and joy that makes them phenomenal women. With superstar creators Charlie Jane Anders, Mirka Andolfo, Jordie Bellaire and many more, this issue is another must-have from the Voices pull list!

If you’re looking to find new female characters, female authors, or female artists to check out, this next part in the Marvel Voices series is the place to go!

Bind Ups:

X-Men: Trials Of Magneto by Leah Williams

The Scarlet Witch is dead! Magneto, the master of magnetism – one of the founders of the mutant nation of Krakoa, a former villain who has never stopped fighting for mutantkind – has been accused of a horrific murder! And the trial will threaten the Reign of X and upend the world that Magneto has worked so hard to build for his fellow mutants. Wanda Maximoff, branded one of mutantkind’s deadliest enemies, has been killed on Krakoan soil! And as Earth’s heroes gather for a memorial, Magneto pushes Krakoan law and the Quiet Council to the brink. But something is wrong. Something very small. The truth is deeply hidden, but it won’t stay buried for long. Who lurks in the shadows, and what do they know? Justice will be served, the guilty will be judged and the victims will be avenged!

The next part in the Dawn Of X (part two) and Reign Of X run, so this won’t make much sense without having read these bind ups first.

X-Men/Avengers: Onslaught Omnibus by Chris Claremont

Onslaught is here! The fury of Magneto plus the psionic might of Charles Xavier equals bad news for the Marvel Universe! Now discover how this mental monster came to be – and the full extent of the havoc he wreaked on the X-Men, the Avengers and pretty much everybody else! As the truth slowly dawns about the nature of the evil they face, how much are Marvel’s greatest heroes prepared to sacrifice to save the world?

The biggest Marvel event of the 90’s, in one huge bind up, which means you should be fine to jump into it without too much hassle.

Savage Avengers Volume 5: Defilement Of All Things by Gerry Duggan

Whatever happened to Shuma-Gorath? Even elder gods need elder care. And now Doctor Strange and Conan the Barbarian have arrived to perform a wellness check. But the evil sorcerer Kulan Gath has been eating Shuma-Gorath in small bites for the last year! And Doctor Strange’s house call is about to go completely off the rails! Can the unexpected entrance of an old villain help the Savage Avengers overcome the monstrous and mystically charged Kulan Gath? The entire planet had better hope so! Everything the team has faced so far has been building to the savage battle you’ve all been waiting for!

Previous volumes are: City Of Sickles, To Dine With Doom, Enter The Dragon and King In Black.

Marvel-Verse: Moon Knight by Doug Moench and more

Moon Knight is one of the most mysterious heroes in the Marvel-Verse! Meet Marc Spector as a monster hunter, when the shadowy Committee hires him to track down the Werewolf by Night! Then join him juggling lives as a millionaire, a mercenary, a cab driver and a masked vigilante teaming with Daredevil in a battle against the Jester that’s no laughing matter! But is Moon Knight really a bad guy? Find out alongside Spider-Man in a criminal competition played out by the gangs of New York! Then, when time-traveling Kang the Conqueror plots to settle an ancient grudge against the Egyptian god Khonshu, it’s up to Khonshu’s avatar, Moon Knight, to fix the broken timestream!

A few stories of Moon Knight, just in time for the TV show to come out this month! I wouldn’t say that this is entirely new-to-Moon-Knight friendly, as it’s not going from his origin story or anything, so I’d wait until you’re a little more well-versed in the character before reading this.

Moon Knight by Lemire and Smallwood Complete Collection by Jeff Lemire

A story of birth, death and rebirth unlike any other! Marc Spector (A.K.A. Moon Knight/Jake Lockley/Steven Grant) has been fighting criminals and keeping New York City safe for years…or has he? When he wakes up in an insane asylum with no powers and a lifetime’s worth of medical records, it calls his whole identity – identities – into question. Something is wrong, but is that something Marc himself? Delve deep beneath the mask of Moon Knight to meet the many men inside his head! While Steven Grant prepares for a box-office smash, Jake Lockley is arrested for murder! And as the muddled mind of Moon Knight reaches its limit, the secrets of his past are revealed. Moon Knight’s survival depends on answers, but Marc Spector is plagued by nothing but questions!

A reasonable place to start with if you want to get into Moon Knight, but it does chuck you in the deep end in terms of Moon Knight’s Disassociative Identity Disorder and their system. It may be an idea to do a little research into it first (or you can wait until Moon Knight comes out when I’ll have all the information you need!)

New Mutants Omnibus Volume 2 by Chris Claremont

The New Mutants take a road trip to Asgard – with the trickster god Loki guiding them to all the wrong places! Then, it’s back to class under a new schoolmaster: Magneto! The former villain has sworn to atone for his crimes, but winning the New Mutants’ trust won’t be easy. As the team contends with their rivals the Hellions, they’ll face death and rebirth, a mutant massacre, a twisted future timeline, a rebellion in Limbo and more! But why have Sunspot and Warlock run away to join the Fallen Angels? Chris Claremont’s foundational run concludes here!

The first Omnibus is just called Volume 1!

Howard The Duck by Zdarsky and Quinones Omnibus by Chip Zdarsky and more

Trapped in a world he’s grown quite accustomed to! Howard the Duck returns, courtesy of the sensational creative team of Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones – they’re the duckiest! The furious fowl is taking on weird cases as the Marvel Universe’s newest and most feathery private investigator, and his new job will take him everywhere from the Savage Land to across the cosmos! Howie shares offbeat adventures with Rocket Raccoon, Squirrel Girl, Gwenpool, She-Hulk and more – but his strangest case of all may just be the disappearance of Hollywood’s Lea Thompson! Plus: What’s a duck to do when the Ten Realms go to waugh…sorry, we mean war?

I’d recommend knowing at least a little about Howard before going into it, as well as the War Of The Realms nearby.

Incredible Hulk Omnibus Volume 1 by Stan Lee and Gary Friedrich

Dr. Robert Bruce Banner may be a mild-mannered scientist, but after being caught in a gamma bomb explosion, he was transformed into the unstoppable engine of destruction known as the Incredible Hulk! From the earliest Stan Lee/Jack Kirby issues that put an irradiated angle on the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde complex, to Steve Ditko’s psychological slobberknockers in TALES TO ASTONISH and the Jade Giant’s return to his own solo series, Marvel is proud to present everyone’s favorite man-monster from the very beginning! Featuring General Thunderbolt Ross; Betty Ross, the tortured woman who loves Bruce Banner; vile villains from the Leader to the Abomination; and earth-shaking battles against the Silver Surfer, Thor, Giant-Man, Namor, Hercules and more!

The original Hulk comics, so if you want to go back to the beginning, this is the place to start!

Fantastic Four Volume 9: Eternal Flame by Dan Slott and more

After everything they’ve been through in recent months, life has become extremely unstable for the Fantastic Four! So maybe now is a good time for a visit from a certain friendly neighborhood Spider-Man? Meanwhile, Ben and Alicia take their kids trick-or-treating for the very first time…which might not be such a good idea. Especially when one of the FF’s greatest enemies has returned to unleash Halloween horror! And when the Wizard and the Frightful Four menace the FF both in and out of the courtroom, it’s time to call in everyone’s favorite green lawyer: the sensational She-Hulk! Plus: An old-fashioned first family vacation to the Grand Canyon turns into a nightmare – and ends in a race against time to survive a lethal affliction! And Ben Grimm throws on his hat and overcoat to solve a mystery that’s come alive right out of his nightmares. What is Doctor Strange’s nemesis D’Spayre doing on Yancy Street?

Previous volumes are: Fourever, Mr And Mrs Grimm, The Herald Of Doom, Thing Vs Immortal Hulk, Point Of Origin, Empyre, The Forever Gate and The Bride Of Doom.

Fantastic Four Epic Collection: Nobody Gets Out Alive by Tom DeFalco and more

Four no more! One member of the FF is about to die – but will it be at the hands of Paibok the Power Skrull, Devos the Devastator or Doctor Doom?! The remaining “Fantastic Three” don’t have long to grieve before they’re whisked away to the Skrull Throneworld! If they can fight their way free, the trio may become a quartet again – with potential members including Lyja the Lazerfist, the teenage Franklin Richards and Ant-Man! As Malice strikes, the FF must aid Namor in a bizarre battle against alien foes. Then, the Watcher banishes the team to an alternate world where they relive their initial encounter with Galactus! What is the Watcher’s endgame? Who is the mysterious Dark Raider? And is this the end of the FF?!

The previous volumes are: The World’s Greatest Comic Magazine, The Plan Of Doctor Doom, The Coming Of Galactus, The Mystery Of The Black Panther, The Name Is Doom, At War With Atlantis, Battle Of The Behemoths, Annihilus Revealed, All In The Family, The More Things Change…, Into The Time Stream, The New Fantastic Four and This Flame, This Fury.

Carnage: Black, White and Blood by Tini Howard and more

Carnage is back, carving a path of chaos in his wake – one crafted by some of the greatest creators at Marvel! But beware, True Believers: These spinechilling tales are not for the faint of heart – and they are presented in brutally beautiful black, white… and blood! Featuring the serial-killing super villain in savage battle with Spider-Man like you’ve never seen before, Carnage unleashed on humankind’s future, a horrifying tale set against the backdrop of the classic “Maximum Carnage” event, an epilogue to ABSOLUTE CARNAGE and KING IN BLACK by symbiotic sensation Donny Cates and more!

You’ll definitely need to read Donny Cate’s Venom run before going near this!

Captain America Epic Collection: The Bloodstone Hunt by Mark Gruenwald and Kieron Dwyer

Steve Rogers is back in the red, white and blue! With his familiar shield in hand, Steve battles alongside Nick Fury and takes on the Supreme Soviets! But his return to the mantle of Cap may come to a swift end as he struggles to survive Mother Night’s camp of hate – while transformed into a scrawny teenager! And the erstwhile Cap, John Walker, makes his return as the take-no-prisoners U.S.Agent! Then, a classic caper begins as Baron Zemo targets the powerful Bloodstone – and Cap joins the hunt along with Diamondback! She’s a foe turned friend, but could she be more? Before the saga is over, they’ll face Batroc’s Brigade, cannibals, sharks, snakes and even mummies! Plus: Crossbones targets Diamondback, Sub-Mariner goes wild and Magneto nearly kills the Red Skull!

Previous volumes are: Captain America Lives Again, The Coming Of… The Falcon, Bucky Reborn, Hero Of Hoax? Dawn’s Early Light, Monsters And Men, Sturm Und Drang, Society of Serpents, Justice Is Served and The Captain.

Captain America Epic Collection: Arena Of Death by Mark Gruenwald and more

Captain America goes undercover! To infiltrate an A.I.M. weapons expo, Cap must defeat an army of super villains – while disguised as his deadly foe Crossbones! Even with Falcon and Diamondback for backup, can Cap survive a showdown with every villain from Batroc to M.O.D.A.M.? Maybe once Shang-Chi arrives to lend his deadly hands! Then, Captain America joins Black Panther and Ka-Zar for some jungle action in the Savage Land – but the titanic Terminus is out of their weight class! When Silver Sable and the Wild Pack hunt Viper, whose side is Steve on? Cap and Ghost Rider are made to know fear by the Scarecrow! And the U.S.Agent must solve the mystery of Scourge!

Also part of the Epic Collection, so the new volumes after The Bloodstone Hunt are: Streets Of Poison, The Superia Strategem and Blood And Glory.

Amazing Spider-Man Beyond Volume 2 by Cody Ziglar and more

The new Spider-Man vs. the newest Spider-Man! The Beyond Corporation paid a lot of money for the Spider-Man trademark, and they do not take kindly to an unlicensed wall-crawler running around Brooklyn. So they’ve assigned Ben Reilly to take down Miles Morales! Meanwhile, Mary Jane Watson has been trying to nurse Peter Parker back to health – but when Peter’s roommate disappears, MJ must get to the bottom of a hospital mystery! And when Aunt May decides to take extraordinary steps to save Peter’s life, she reaches out to her former fiancé: Doctor Octopus! Now, Ock is on a collision course with Beyond and their corporate Spider-Man. And Ben Reilly isn’t the only one with new tricks up his sleeve – or in Ock’s case, many sleeves! The new era of Spider-Man is beyond amazing!

You’ll need to know about Ben Reilly before going into this, but at least the first volume in this series is just called Volume 1.

And that’s everything coming out today! What’s on your pull list? I’m looking at Captain Carter, Trials Of Magneto and the Moon Knight releases! Tell me yours down below!
