26th January Marvel Comic Releases

There’s a fair amount coming out this week, so let’s get into it!

Single Issues:

X Deaths Of Wolverine by Ben Percy

WEEK 2 – If WOLVERINE’s future lies in the past, what does that mean for the present? The reciprocal series to X LIVES OF WOLVERINE, X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE is can’t-miss reading, chock-full of revelations for the best there is as well as the fate of mutantkind!

This is part of the X Lives Of Wolverine series, so you must read last week’s issue first.

Mary Jane, Black Cat Beyond by Saladin Ahmed

Black Cat has been kidnapped, and the only person who can save her is… MARY JANE WATSON?!
•  Mary Jane has never liked Felicia Hardy, and now she has to save her life?!
•  But remember, this is the Black Cat we’re talking about. Things are never quite what they seem.

I’d recommend going into this with previous knowledge of Mary Jane and Black Cat.

Marauders Annual by Steve Orlando

A NEW CREW SETS SAIL! With Kate Pryde at the helm, the Marauders are ready to renew their mission of mutant rescue! She’s got the mission – all she needs now is a new boat and a fresh crew to match. Pryde and Bishop must unite a crew of mutants, new and old, to spring Daken from imprisonment at the hands of a leader who’s as cruel as he is charismatic: the primal provocateur known as Brimstone Love!

It’s the Marauders versus the Theater of Pain, a torture troupe that’s set up shop in Xavier’s School’s old backyard! Come aboard for the first adventure as Steve Orlando takes the helm with our sea-faring mutants!

Even though this is a one-shot, I’d recommend being up to date with Dawn Of X and Reign Of X. I’ll have a Reign guide up soon.

Devils Reign: Winter Soldier by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing

A power-mad Mayor Fisk has been gathering information on super heroes. How far will Bucky Barnes go to steal the file on his own shadowy, half-remembered past as the Winter Soldier? And what horrible revelation awaits him if he can get past the Kingpin?
Some secrets are meant to stay buried. And some doors are meant to stay closed.

Bucky Barnes is joining in with Devil’s Reign, so again, make sure you’re all caught up with the event!

Bind Ups:

Daredevil Epic Collection: Going Out West by Gerry Conway

If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some horns on your head! Daredevil and the Black Widow ditch New York City and head out West to get some peace, love and appreciation. No, scratch that: They’ll face new challenges and classic villains alike – including Electro, Killgrave the Purple Man and Mister Fear – all courtesy of Gerry Conway and the unmatched art team of Gene Colan and Tom Palmer! Then, Steve Gerber introduces adversaries weirder than anything on Haight-Ashbury. The Dark Messiah and Angar the Screamer lead the charge, until Stilt-Man struts his way across the Golden Gate! It’s all topped off with a crossover co-starring the Avengers and X-Men, a Spidey team-up and a fight with Kraven the Hunter that soon turns decidedly cosmic!

The first four volumes in this series are called: The Man Without Fear, Mike Murdock Must Die!, Brother Take My Hand and A Woman Called Widow.

Deadpool Black, White And Blood: Treasury Edition by Ed Brisson and more

What’s black, white and red all over? A collection packed with blood-drenched tales of violence and mayhem led by Marvel’s mirthful mercenary himself, Deadpool! Wade Wilson curses streaming platforms, laments the loss of video stores and invades a foreign country – all in the name of his favourite screen idol! Deadpool enjoys his long-awaited reunion with Gabby Kinney, A.K.A. Scout! The Merc with a Mouth battles the man who can’t miss: Bullseye! Plus: the age-old parable of how Deadpool got his swords – and more, filled with gore! You want to see today’s top talent take it to the edge to bring you the wildest Wade Wilson adventures yet?! Then this is the book for you! It’s like a classic black-and-white movie – but with way more blood!

A standalone story, but I’d still recommend having knowledge of Deadpool, Gabby Kinney and Bullseye.

Doctor Strange Omnibus Volume 2 by Chris Claremont and more

With an unmatched roll call of amazing Marvel creators, our second Doctor Strange Omnibus is guaranteed to cast a spell on you! The adventures of the Master of the Mystic Arts continue as Doctor Strange faces Kaluu, the mystic threat from the Nameless Nowhere! Other legendary tales include the origin of the Ancient One, the return of Baron Mordo, an otherworldly odyssey to save Victoria Bentley and the arrival of the Living Tribunal! And in 1968, Doctor Strange received his own solo title, allowing the Sorcerer Supreme to soar to new horizons – including showdowns with Eternity and Dormammu, a new costume and the beginnings of the Defenders!

I would definitely read the first volume before reading this – it has no title, like this one, it’s just called Volume 1.

Marvels Voices Legacy by Narcisse, Evan and more

Stories from the world outside your window, by diverse creators who are making theirs Marvel – and making their voices heard! Inspired by Marvel’s acclaimed podcast series MARVEL’S VOICES, new and established writers and artists share their unique perspectives on legendary characters – including Black Panther, Storm, Blade, Ironheart, Luke Cage, Spectrum, Shuri, Doctor Voodoo, Nick Fury and the Blue Marvel. It’s a dizzying array of adventures that will inspire and uplift! Plus: The opening chapter of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ revolutionary BLACK PANTHER epic, the sensational first meeting of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and a stunning gallery of Ernanda Souza’s Black History Month variant covers!

This is a collection of Marvel’s Voices, so if you’ve missed any of them, or have been waiting for the bind up, this is your chance to catch up!

Symbiote Spider-Man: Crossroads by Peter David

Peter David and Greg Land do the time warp again! Brace yourself for another trip back to the time when Spider-Man unknowingly wore an alien symbiote as his costume! But this all-new blast from the past will take Spidey down the road less travelled – and into the supremely psychedelic Crossroads Dimension! And for those of you who know your Marvel history, that means that Peter Parker and his alien costume are on a collision course with none other than the mindless, rampaging Hulk! Meanwhile, with Spidey missing, the Black Cat enlists the aid of the Sorcerer Supreme! And…is that a certain big, red dinosaur?! It’s an unrevealed tale from Peter’s symbiotic past, told in the modern Marvel manner you know and love!

This has a lot of cameos and objects that rely on previous knowledge, I’d maybe avoid this if you’re new to Marvel Comics.

The Marvels Volume 1: The War In Siancong by Kurt Busiek

A thriller that will take readers across the Marvel Universe… and beyond! Kurt Busiek (MARVELS) is back, with the biggest, wildest, most sprawling series you’ve ever seen – telling stories that span decades and range from cosmic adventure to intense human drama, from street level to the far reaches of space, starring literally anyone, from Marvel’s very first heroes to the superstars of tomorrow! Featuring Captain America, Spider-Man, the Punisher, the Human Torch, Storm, the Black Cat, the Golden Age Vision, Melinda May, Aero, Iron Man, Thor and more – and introducing brand-new characters destined to be fan-favourites! Get to know Kevin Schumer, an ordinary guy with some big secrets – and the mysterious Threadneedle! But who (or what) is KSHOOM? It all starts here. And it goes… everywhere!

Another one that definitely feels like it’s not for newbies, considering the amount of characters that turn up, and how much time it covers. If you want a guide to this, let me know!

Winter Guard: Operation Snowblind by Devin Grayson and Ryan Cady

Winter comes for Yelena Belova and the Red Guardian! When Alexei Shostakov starts hunting down state secrets, he finds himself square in his home country’s crosshairs – dragging Yelena along with him. The motherland has new heroes now, and not even the Red Room could have prepared Alexei and Yelena for this terrible retribution. It’s a race across Russia as the Winter Guard rush to Red Guardian’s hometown in hopes of discovering the secrets of Operation Snowblind. But with the Crimson Dynamo in critical condition, can the Guard keep it together to uncover the truth before time runs out? Bold twists and bombastic action abound as Russia’s mightiest protectors dig deep into their nation’s dirtiest secrets!

This is a one-shot, and doesn’t tie into anything else, so as long as you have a bit of knowledge on Red Guardian and Yelena, you should be fine!

X-Men: Hellfire Gala by Jonathan Hickman and more

Don your finest dress or sharpest suit – or get Jumbo Carnation to whip you up something new just for the occasion! You are cordially invited to the hottest mutant event of the season: the Hellfire Gala! Everyone who’s anyone in the hot new world of mutantkind will be there. All of your favorite heroes and their closest allies – and even their worst enemies – for a special night of dinner, drinks, diplomacy and deceit! The very first democratically elected team of Krakoan X-Men will at last be revealed to the world, and that’s just the first of the surprises mutantkind has in store for the evening! Whatever you do, don’t miss this one-of-a-kind X-event!

The next part in the X-Men saga! I’ll be doing a part three to my guide next month, so you know where this slots in!

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s on your pull list this new comic book day? I’m going for the Hellfire Gala, and Winter Guard: Snowblind!
