Spider-Man Character Profile

Powers: Super strength, speed, agility, durability and stamina, toughened skin, wall-crawling, advanced healing, enhanced immune system, perfect balance – no matter how small the surface he’s resting on, Peter always remains perfectly balanced – heightened reflexes, spider-sense – which gives Peter advanced warning to danger. Outside of powers, Peter also has a high intellect, has been shown to be a gifted engineer, an acrobat, and a master martial artist.

Mini Bio: Peter Parker was raised in New York by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben after his parents were killed by the Red Skull. Always interested in science, and showing that he was a gifted student, Peter attended a science expo at 15, where he was bitten by a spider, which had been irradiated by a particle accelerator.

He didn’t realise what had happened until on the way home, where he managed to avoid being hit by a car by leaping onto a building site several meters high off the ground, where he realised he had gained super strength, agility, and the ability to climb up walls. From there, Peter decided to use his powers to earn him some money – appearing on TV and performing his ‘act’ in a disguise.

Fame got to Peter’s head, and he didn’t stop a thief, as he didn’t think it was his responsibility to catch him. What he didn’t realise, was that this thief would kill his Uncle Ben, making Peter realise something – with great power, comes great responsibility. From then on, Peter became Spider-Man, a masked hero who saved whoever he could.

Peter continued on with his studies, graduating from Midtown High School, before attending university, all while still being Spider-Man. While he had quit the TV job, he did for a while also use Spider-Man to make money, in the sense that he took photos of himself as Spider-Man while fighting crime, to sell to the Daily Bugle. After graduating university, Peter eventually managed to set up his own technology company.

While mostly being a loner-hero, he also teamed up with the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, as well as fought alongside heroes like Deadpool, the Human Torch, other Spider-People (see Spider-Geddon for more information) and other famous heroes. In his personal life, Peter has had relationships with Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacey, though his being Spider-Man caused these relationships to break down several times. Or, like in some stories, lead to the women being killed by Spider-Man villains, though they were usually resurrected, as most characters in comic books are.

First Comic Appearance: Amazing Fantasy issue 15 (1962)

Most Common Team Ups: Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Deadpool, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Daredevil, Human Torch

Comic Recommendations: I have a whole blog post of starting points for Spider-Man, a reading guide for Spider-Geddon (very useful in the run-up for Spider-Man: No Way Home), apart from that, I’d also recommend Secret Wars (1984) by Jim Shooter and Spider-Man: One More Day (2007) by J Michael Straczynski and Joe Quesada (again, also useful for Spider-Man: No Way Home).
