WHAT IF SPOILERS AHEAD. LIKE THIS POST AND COME BACK LATER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN WHAT IF EPISODE 6.
This week’s What If episode gave us the team up of Killmonger and Tony Stark, and wow was it an interesting one!
Now, what I’d usually do is give you some recommendations for starting points for Black Panther comics, seeing as Wakanda played a heavy part in this episode. But, I did that just a few weeks ago, so instead, you’re getting some recommendations for Killmonger!
This wasn’t an easy task though, I can tell you! As it turns out – Killmonger is popular among fans, but he hasn’t had that many appearances, so I’m going to do my best to give you his biggest stories.

The brutal tale of a man who will stop at nothing…for freedom! One day, years from now, Erik Killmonger will rise up and attempt to steal the throne of Wakanda – the throne he believes he is owed. But long before he became “Killmonger,” he was a boy known as N’Jadaka. A boy who was stolen from his home and taught only the world’s cruelties. A boy who knew the Black Panther only as a fairy tale, a whisper from strangers. This is the story of a young man driven by revenge. This is where the legend of Killmonger begins! Plus, relive Killmonger’s classic first appearance – and a brutal battle against the Black Panther!
This is the only comic to focus entirely on Killmonger, and acts as his origin story, for anyone who wants to see how he became the man he is today!

Witness the early years of the man who will come to rule one of the most scientifically advanced countries in the world! Wakanda has always kept itself isolated from Western society, but that’s all about to change. Young T’Challa knows he is destined to become king, but when his father is brutally murdered by outsiders, he’ll find himself taking up a mantle he may not be ready for. Experience never-before-seen drama from the reign of T’Chaka, the king whose death changes a nation’s history forever. Learn about the mother T’Challa never knew. See how the world learns about this wondrous nation for the first time. Will the power of the Black Panther be enough to keep his country safe?
More of a Black Panther/T’Challa/history of Wakanda, but this does also still cover the rise of Killmonger. Think of this as a ‘cliff notes’ version of the earliest stories of Black Panther, his adventures, and his enemies.

A bold new direction for the Black Panther! For years, T’Challa has kept foreign invaders out of his homeland, protecting his people from everything from meddling governments to long-lost gods. Now, he will discover that Wakanda is much bigger than he ever dreamed…across the vast Multiverse lies an empire founded in T’Challa’s name! Jump on now and learn the truth behind the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda!
Part of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ huge Black Panther run, so you’ll want to read A Nation Under Our Feet Books One, Two and Three, and Avengers Of The New World Parts One and Two first.
And that’s all I can really find at the moment – like I said above, Killmonger doesn’t have that many ‘big’ runs in the comics, but hopefully this will scratch the Killmonger itch!
