18th/25th August Marvel Comic Releases

For some reason, WordPress did not post last week’s new comic book day release guide, so I’m including it in this week’s, so you don’t miss out!

18th Single Issues:

Kang The Conquerer by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing

THE ORIGIN OF KANG!
The man called Kang the Conqueror has been a pharaoh, a villain, a warlord of the space ways and even, on rare occasions, a hero. Across all timelines, one fact seemed absolute: Time means nothing to Kang the Conqueror.
But the truth is more complex. Kang is caught in an endless cycle of creation and destruction dictated by time and previously unseen by any but the Conqueror himself. A cycle that could finally explain the enigma that is Kang. And a cycle that begins and ends with an old and broken Kang sending his younger self down a dark path…

If you were interested in finding out more about Kang The Conquerer after the Loki finale, then this is the comic series for you!

Miles Morales: Spider-Man annual by Saladin Ahmed

FIGHT AT THE MUSEUM!
Miles Morales is investigating a series of monster attacks in Brooklyn when he runs into Ms. Marvel’s friend and ally AMULET!
Together they connect the monsters to a series of cursed magical objects. But who activated them, and why? And can Spider-Man and Amulet find out before the monsters take them down too?

The next part in the Infinite Fury storyline, so make sure you’re all caught up on that before jumping into this!

X-Men Trial Of Magneto by Leah Williams

THE STORY THAT WILL SHAKE KRAKOA TO ITS CORE!
A horrific murder. A shocking revelation. A trial that will divide the new mutant nation. Leah Williams and Valerio Schiti bring you a new epic that threatens the Reign of X and will upend the world of mutants. The truth is hidden, the danger is far from over, and the trial has begun

The next part in Jonathan Hickman’s X-Men run, so make sure you’re up to date with Dawn Of X and Reign Of X. I’ll have part two to this reading guide up soon, so you’ll have a better idea of what you need to read for this series!

18th Bind Ups:

Marauders by Gerry Duggan volume 3

The Marauders must navigate difficult waters ahead! Double-dealing and backstabbing are the order of the day in the Hellfire Trading Company, but killing Kate Pryde crossed the line. The Black King must pay! And a resurrected Kate has some ideas about exactly how. Meanwhile, Storm faces off against her old rival Callisto in a rematch that’s become very personal! And the Marauders return to Madripoor to pay tribute to a fallen friend – but old enemies are being forged anew, and the team is about to face a nasty surprise! Ororo’s eyes are pointed to the future – one that takes her off the seas and over the horizon. And it all culminates in the biggest event of the season! Prepare for the Hellfire Gala – a night of dinner, drinking, diplomacy and deceit!

Another part of the Dawn Of X storyline, this time in bind up form. This is focusing on the Marauders, so if you’re collecting these as bind ups, make sure you’ve got the first two volumes. If you’re collecting Dawn Of X bind ups, then you won’t need this.

Marvel-Verse: Doctor Strange by Len Wein

The Sorcerer Supreme stars in some of his most magical adventures! Discover how renowned surgeon Stephen Strange’s search for a cure for his damaged hands led him instead into a world of magic and mystery! Join him in a mind-bending interdimensional battle with the Dread Dormammu as only Stan Lee and Steve Ditko could present it! A sorrowful Doctor Strange tackles the demonic D’Spayre and learns what life would have been like if he never mastered the mystic arts! The villainous Nicodemus sets his sights on Strange’s soul! And when a cosmically powered creature wreaks havoc, can Spider-Man help Doctor Strange web up the holes in the fabric of reality?

A good starting place for newbies to Doctor Strange.

Heroes Reborn: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by Jason Aaron

A world without Avengers! Tony Stark never built an Iron Man armour. Thor is a hard-drinking atheist who despises hammers. Wakanda is dismissed as a myth. Captain America was never found in the ice – because there were no Avengers to find him. Instead, this planet has always been protected by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: the Squadron Supreme of America! Now Hyperion, Blur, Doctor Spectrum, Power Princess and Nighthawk face an attack from some of their fiercest enemies – including Dr. Juggernaut, the Black Skull, the Silver Witch, the Goblin and Thanos with his Infinity Rings. But why is Blade the vampire hunter the one man alive who seems to remember that the entire world has somehow been…reborn? And what is the Daywalker going to do about it?

The main Heroes Reborn run, again, this is another where I’ll be doing a reading guide soon, once a few more bind ups have been released.

Reign Of X volume 3 by Gerry Duggan and more

Difficult reunions in the Reign of X! The Marauders are rocked by the rematch of the century: Storm vs. Callisto! Part of the Last Annihilation event, so be sure to read that first.

Connor Young is a seventeen-year-old star basketball player with the world ahead of him, until a surprising medical diagnosis changes everything. But what happens when a mysterious amulet finds him and gives him powers beyond belief? What will he do with these new abilities?

This is the start of a new era for Dawkhawk, with a brand new character taking on the mantel, but I’d recommend having at least some knowledge of previous Darkhawk stories before going into this one, just in case.

Extreme Carnage: Riot by Alyssa Wong

Carnage may be building an army, but his ultimate goal remains shrouded in mystery. What is his endgame? And how many will he massacre to achieve it?

Part of the Extreme Carnage storyline, so again, make sure you’re up to date with it first.

CHIP ZDARSKY and MARK BAGLEY reunite for this story told in a world where Marvel’s beloved characters aged in real time!

Definitely read Spider-Man: Life Story first before going into this!

Winter Guard by Ryan Cady

WINTER COMES FOR THE WHITE WIDOW & THE RED GUARDIAN!
Russia is cleaning house! And when the Red Guardian starts hunting down state secrets, he puts himself right back in his home country’s crosshairs – dragging the White Widow along with him. But the motherland has new heroes now…and not even the Red Room could have prepared Alexei and Yelena for the Winter Guard’s retribution. Bold twists and bombastic action abound as Jason Aaron’s Winter Guard tracks down two of Russia’s dirtiest secrets!Ā

This probably won’t make much sense without having read Jason Aaron’s Winter Guard first.

25th Bind Ups:

Venom by Donny Cates: King In Black

Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman bring their three-year saga to a stunning close! The horrifying threat of the King in Black, all-powerful god of the symbiote race, has loomed large for years. Now, after millennia of imprisonment, Knull and his symbiote army have arrived on Earth! But what is Knull’s hideous agenda? And what happens to Venom when he finally comes face-to-face with the lord of the abyss? Eddie Brock is about to face the biggest challenge of his life, but he’s not alone. Who will stand by his side in Earth’s darkest hour? And do any of them have the slightest chance of success? Nothing will ever be the same for the Lethal Protector!

My Venom, Carnage and King In Black guides all went up last month, so check those out first.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrels Just Wanna Have Fun by Ryan North and Will Murray

Squirrel Girl takes Nancy to visit her mom in Canada! What could possibly go wrong? How about the return of a villain not seen for more than a decade? One that prompts the inter-species team-up you’ve been waiting for: squirrels and ants! And also Squirrel Girl and Ant-Man. Then, when Taskmaster strikes, who will stand between him and total domination? You probably guessed Doreen Green – but it’s actually Nancy’s cat, Mew! Squirrel Girl’s co-creator Will Murray returns for a special story – and he’s bringing the Hulk! And Doreen gets a new Flying Squirrel suit from a mystery benefactor, but is there more to this gift than meets the eye? Plus: When Squirrel Girl goes to the Negative Zone, it’s up to Koi Boi, Chipmunk Hunk and Brain Drain to keep the city safe. Uh-oh!Ā

The previous omnibus in this series is Big Squirrels Don’t Cry.

Marvel Masterworks: Avengers volume 21

Avengers storytelling doesn’t get much more dramatic than the tales in this Marvel Masterworks as the disgraced Yellowjacket reaches rock bottom! Meanwhile, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes join the Defenders to take on Nebula, and then team with Drax the Destroyer in battle against…Thor and Moondragon?! Two new members join the team (spoiler: it’s She-Hulk and Hawkeye!), and the blustery bowman gets right into the action in a classic team-up with Scott Lang, the Ant-Man, against the Taskmaster! And the Black Knight shows up for a stirring two-part tale! Capping off this volume is the classic VISION AND THE SCARLET WITCH limited series, in which Vizh and Wanda’s attempts at suburban bliss are rocked by deep revelations – including the identity of Wanda’s father!

The previous volumes in this series are all numbered and without individual titles, so you just need to find volumes 1-20.

Fantastic Four Epic Collection: The World’s Greatest Comic Magazine by Stan Lee

In 1961, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby lit the fuse of the greatest revolution in comic book history – the Marvel Age of Comics – and it started right here, in the pages of FANTASTIC FOUR! With the space race on, Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Sue Storm and Johnny Storm shoot for the stars – but after their craft is bombarded by cosmic rays, they return to Earth with the startling powers of the Fantastic Four! These weren’t just any super heroes, though – the Fantastic Four were a realistic, relatable, bickering and loveable family that couldn’t pay their rent and didn’t always love their powers. So crack open this Epic Collection and enjoy the beginning of the series that earned the name “The World’s Greatest Comic Magazine!”

Fantastic Four Epic Collection: Battle Of The Behemoths by Stan Lee and Archie Goodwin

Only an artist as immortal as John Buscema could fill Jack “King” Kirby’s Galactus-sized shoes on FANTASTIC FOUR! “Big John” joins Stan the Man on a timeless run in this collection of FF from the early ’70s. Johnny Storm and Crystal develop their romance, Ben Grimm learns to change into Thing at will, Reed Richards takes on Annihilus and Janus in the Negative Zone and none other than Doctor Doom teams up with the FF to face the awesome threat of the Over-Mind! Then, Gabriel the Air-Walker debuts as Galactus’ new herald, and he’s arrived on Earth to force the Silver Surfer to submit to the Big G’s will – or the planet dies! All this, plus the return of the Monster from the Lost Lagoon!Ā

These last two are part of the same epic collection! The reading order is: The World’s Greatest Comic Magazine, The Master Plan Of Doctor Doom, The Coming Of Galactus, The Mystery Of The Black Panther, The Name Is Doom, At War With Atlantis and Battle Of The Behemoths.

And that’s everything that has been released, or will release this week! Who else is picking up Reign Of X volume 3? What else is on your pull list? Let me know in the comments!
