Peggy Carter Character Profile

WHAT IF SPOILERS AHEAD

Peggy Carter is now officially Captain Carter in What If…? and I couldn’t be more excited!

But, who is Peggy in the comics? Read on to find out!

Name: Margaret ‘Peggy’ Carter

Superhero Name: Dryad, Agent 13, Captain Carter

Created By: Stan Lee

Operation S.I.N. issue 1 cover by Michael Komarck

Played By: Hayley Atwell

Powers: Skilled martial artist, trained spy and strategist. As Dryad she wears a battle armour which is inflammable and is strong enough to withstand missile attacks. As Captain Carter, she has the same powers as Steve Rogers.

Mini Bio: Peggy Carter joined the French Resistance as a teenager and became a skilled fighter, going by the name Agent 13. During the war, she joined Captain America on various operations and the two fell in love. But, an exploding shell gave her amnesia and she was sent to live with her parents in Virginia.

After recovering, Peggy joined S.H.I.E.L.D. in the 1960’s, where she stayed until she joined the Avenger’s support staff in Avengers Mansion.

In retirement, Peggy lived in a retirement home, where she suffered from dementia until she died. In her honour, S.H.I.E.L.D. put her a statue of her outside the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy.

Peggy was then revived through unknown means, where she formed the Daughters Of Liberty with her niece Sharon under the alias of Dryad. The only people who know her true identity are Sharon, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.

As for Captain Carter, she is a variant from a different universe – a universe where she was given the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers. She appears in the Exiles series by Saladin Ahmed, with the female version of Bucky Barnes – Becky Barnes.
