11th August Marvel Comic Releases

It’s a bit of a shorter list of new releases this week, but there’s still some great comics coming out this week!

Single Issues:

Avengers: Tech-On by Jim Zub

When the Red Skull wields a strange new power that strips heroes of their powers and threatens the entire world, the Avengers turn to Tony Stark’s experimental new technology to save us all. Here come the Iron Avengers – Avengers Tech-On!
Sleek high-tech power suits bristling with energy and amped-up attack power face off against super villains enhanced to match. It’s mechs and mayhem in the Marvel Mighty Manner!

Researching this one was difficult, but I think you can maybe read this without any prior reading, I’ll have to keep an eye on this series though, just in case that proves to be untrue!

Defenders by Al Ewing

When existence itself faces extraordinary threats, it needs an extraordinary defence! That’s when you call…THE DEFENDERS!
DOCTOR STRANGE and the MASKED RAIDER take a non-team of Marvel’s weirdest, wildest heroes on a mission that will uncover the hidden architecture of reality itself! This cosmos was not the first to exist…but if the DEFENDERS can’t track Marvel’s oldest villain through the deepest trenches of time – it might be the last!

I’d recommend having at least some information on Doctor Strange, Masked Raider and the other members of this team, along with maybe some knowledge on the Defenders and their previous iterations.

Bind Ups:

X-Men by Jonathan Hickman volume 3

One era ends and a new one begins as Jonathan Hickman’s acclaimed run enters the Reign of X! In the wake of the Earth-shattering events of X OF SWORDS, the Captain Commander of Krakoa makes a fateful decision that will affect all the island-nation’s residents! And when the Shi’ar Empire asks the X-Men for help, Cyclops, Storm and Marvel Girl answer the call! Elsewhere, the door to the Vault swings open at last. But time moves differently inside the Vault – and for the beings who emerge, it’s been a very, very long time since they entered! And Krakoa’s future is at stake when one of mutantkind’s greatest threats re-emerges: Nimrod is online! Then, it’s time for the Hellfire Gala – and a changing of the guard, as Krakoa’s very first team of elected X-Men debuts!

Part of the Dawn of X run, part one of my reading guide is already up, part two is coming soon.

X-Factor by Peter David Omnibus volume 1

Peter David’s first, transformative X-FACTOR run in one volume! Havok, Polaris, Quicksilver, Multiple Man, Wolfsbane and Strong Guy are the all-new, all-different X-Factor! Sanctioned by the U.S. government to protect humans from mutants – and vice versa – they take on threats including Mister Sinister and his Nasty Boys, the Mutant Liberation Front, and…the Incredible Hulk?! But their most challenging encounter is on the couch of super hero psychiatrist Doc Samson! Whether it’s battling the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the shadow of Genosha or clashing with X-Force during the X-Cutioner’s Song saga, this unlikely band of heroes has team chemistry like nothing you’ve ever seen – and a unique style of humour that makes this series a true classic!

Even though this is from the 80’s, this is not something you can jump right into, as it ties into several other storylines from the time.

Iron Fist: Heart Of The Dragon by Larry Hama

After this epic adventure, the Iron Fist will never be the same again! There are Eight Heavenly Cities, of which K’un-Lun is one. Each city has a dragon that is the manifestation of its Chi. But now someone has gathered an undead army to attack each of the Heavenly Cities, kill their dragons and collect their hearts – thereby stealing their Chi! Danny Rand and his K’un-Lun partner, Fooh, must manifest these cities on Earth and conscript other heroes to help hold back the undead hordes – and the action soon spreads across the globe, from Brazil to Japan to Wakanda! Who will rise up and join the fight to save the dragons and stop the mysterious force bent on destroying the Heavenly Cities forever?

Not a very popular run, but, if you’re a fan of Danny Rand, it’s worth a look.

Captain America Epic Collection volume 14 by Mark Gruenwald and more

O Captain! My Captain! When Steve Rogers refuses to become a government operative, a new Captain America takes up the uniform and shield! John Walker does his best to fill Rogers’ big shoes, but can he handle the pressure? Meanwhile, Rogers reinvents himself as the Captain! But why is he trading blows with his old friend Iron Man? Freedom Force, the Horsemen of Apocalypse and the Serpent Society wreak havoc, but the Red Skull’s return will put the two Caps on a collision course – and in the end, only one shall wield the shield!

The previously released volumes are: Captain America Lives Again, The Coming Of… The Falcon, Bucky Reborn, Hero Of Hoax?, Dawn’s Early Light, Monsters And Men, Society Of Serpents and Justice Is Served. Unfortunately, this epic collection series is missing a few volumes, but you can find those missing bits in other bind ups.

Amazing Spider-Man: Kings Ransom by Nick Spencer

The return of one of the most dangerous artefacts in the Marvel Universe! The Lifeline Tablet has plagued Spider-Man’s life more than once. Mayor Wilson Fisk wants its secrets, and he’ll happily kill Boomerang to get his hands on the stone! But doesn’t he know Spidey is Boomerang’s roommate? The wall-crawler must pull out all the stops to prevent the Kingpin from wielding nigh-ultimate power, including assembling his street-level allies and donning an all-new costume! Plus: What fate awaits star-crossed lovers Randy Robertson and the Beetle? Find out as the years-old enmity between their fathers – Robbie Robertson and Tombstone – boils over once more! And all-out war erupts as the super-crime lords of the Marvel Universe compete at the whims of the Kingpin!

The previous volumes are: Back To Basics, Friends And Foes, Lifetime Achievement, Hunted, Behind The Scenes, Absolute Carnage, 2099, Threats And Menaces, Sins Rising, Green Goblin Returns, Last Remains, Last Remains Companion and Shattered Web.

And that’s everything coming out on this new comic book day! What’s on your pull list, let me know down below!
