23rd June Marvel Comic Releases

It’s a smaller release week, but there’s definitely a lot to get excited about!

Single Issues:

Gamma Flight by Al Ewing and Crystal Frasier

SPINNING OUT OF IMMORTAL HULK, BRUCE BANNER’S
GAMMA-POWERED ALLIES GO ON THE RUN!
Gamma Flight had one job: Find and stop the Hulk. But when push came to smash, they sided with the Green Goliath-and the human world intends to make them regret it. Puck, Absorbing Man, Titania, Doc Sasquatch, Dr. Charlene McGowan and a horribly changed Rick Jones are fugitives from every known authority-but a team that full of gamma is bound to break before long. Al Ewing, Crystal Frasier and Lan Medina mastermind a whole new world of gamma!

Definitely read Al Ewing’s Immortal Hulk before starting this!

Heroes Return by Jason Aaron

An epic, oversize slugfest between the Squadron Supreme and an otherworldly group of Avengers for the final fate of the whacked-out world of HEROES REBORN.

You’re definitely going to need to read Heroes Reborn before reading this, if you’re confused about the event, I’ll have a guide coming out when Marvel start releasing bind ups!

Marvel Voices: Pride by Kieron Gillen

Marvel Comics is proud to present its first ever queer-centered anthology! Ring in Pride Month with an amazing assembly of writers and artists from all walks of life. Wiccan and Hulkling! Iceman! New and fan-favourite creators tell their Pride stories – stories of inspiration and empowerment, stories that illustrate “the world outside your window” in full color. Plus, some of Marvel’s biggest LGBTQ+ moments get a special reprinting. Don’t miss an extraordinary new chapter in Marvel history!

I’d recommend looking up any characters you don’t recognise before reading this, but this is a great way to find new, diverse characters you hadn’t heard of before!

Bind ups:

King In Black: Return of The Valkyries by Jason Aaron and Torunn Gronbekk

Once there was an entire army of Valkyries, but now Jane Foster is the only one. And when Knull and his symbiote horrors come to Earth – and the planet’s guardian, the Sentry, falls – all Jane sees when she looks at our big blue planet is a vision of death. To help stop the King in Black, Jane must rebuild the Valkyries – starting with Hildegarde, a warrior from Asgard’s hallowed halls, and the X-Man Dani Moonstar, a former Valkyrie herself. But what Jane doesn’t know is  she was never the only Valkyrie after all! Who is the fourth warrior? Elsewhere, unknown to Jane, Knull’s power has spread across the galaxy and infected creatures even older than the gods…and it may not matter how many Valkyries Jane can bring to their aid!

If you want to read this, then definitely read Jason Aaron’s Thor run, to catch up on Jane and Hildegarde’s story, then check out Dani Moonstar, to find out more about her. Then, you’ll also definitely need King In Black (guide coming soon)!

Marvel MasterWorks: Uncanny X-Men volume 13 by Chris Claremont

Chris Claremont and John Romita Jr. are joined by a host of all-star illustrators for a groundbreaking X-Men Masterworks! It’s all in the family for Cyclops as his son Nathan Summers – later known as Cable – is born, and his “Days of Future Past” daughter Rachel comes to terms with her Phoenix Force powers! Storm duels Cyclops for team leadership as the threat of the Beyonder looms, Nightcrawler takes a solo turn in an adventure beautifully drawn by June Brigman, and Barry Windsor-Smith crafts a brutal Wolverine tale. And a showdown between Wolverine and Phoenix presages war with the Hellfire Club and Nimrod! Plus: Ann Nocenti and Arthur Adams’ quintessentially ’80s limited series introducing the dimension-spanning adventurer and future X-Man Longshot is restored for the Masterworks!

To catch up on the previous MasterWorks, just search for Marvel MasterWorks: Uncanny X-Men volumes 1-12.

Miles Morales: Ultimate End by Brian Michael Bendis

Miles Morales, the Ultimate Universe’s newest Spider-Man, is back in action with a new status quo and a new outlook on life! But now Miles must face the worst nightmare of the Spider-Man legacy: Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin – the man who killed Peter Parker! Or did he…? Even as new villains start coming out of the woodwork, Miles finds himself with – a girlfriend! Her name is Katie Bishop, but she has a secret…and it’s bad news for Spider-Man! As Miles makes a life-changing decision, he discovers a mind-blowing truth about his family! But what does it have to do with S.H.I.E.L.D.? Doctor Doom steps from the shadows, and Spider-Man gathers the mighty Ultimates – but no matter what happens next, this might be the end of the world for Miles Morales!

To get Miles’ origins, read Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis.

Silk: Out Of The Spider-Verse volume 2 by Robbie Thompson

All team-ups, all the time! Spider-Man and Silk have a short, complicated history – but they’ve got to put it behind them fast when they’re thrown back in time to shortly before they get their spider-powers! Can Peter and Cindy let bygones be bygones, stop a sinister threat to reality as they know it and avoid accidentally wiping out the moment that gave them their amazing abilities? Then, Spider-Woman becomes a mentor to Silk and Earth-65’s “Spider-Gwen” Stacy, and the trio enjoy a brunch break in Gwen’s home dimension. But when nefarious Earth-65 spy organisation S.I.L.K. and its leader – a certain Cindy Moon – notice the interdimensional interlopers, everything quickly goes wrong for the three Spider-Women!

To get the backstory for Silk and Peter, read The Amazing Spider-Man from 2014 and the Spider-Verse event! Then, I’d also recommend Out Of The Spider-Verse volume 1, to catch up with this specific storyline.

US Agent: American Zealot by Christopher Priest

The Super-Soldier you love to hate! John Walker, the one-time Captain America and former U.S.Agent, has been stripped of his official status and is now operating as an independent government contractor protecting covert interests. Now Walker’s latest security detail draws him into a conflict between a small town and the corporate giant trying to destroy it. Along the way, Walker acquires a new partner and a new enemy – while being haunted by ghosts from his past and confronting challenges to his future. But when he abandons his assigned mission and heads to Washington to confront the politicians who engineered his firing, a ruthless and enigmatic new U.S.Agent arrives to take over – and he’s willing to destroy anything and anyone who gets in his way! A showdown is coming, with a shield at stake for the winner!

I’ve got all the information on US Agent’s past and his previous comic appearances here. I’d definitely check it out before going into this.

X-Men Epic Collection: Mutant Genesis by Chris Claremont

The end of an era for the X-Men! The original team, now called X-Factor, takes centre stage when Proteus returns from the grave. But when Apocalypse strikes – infecting Cyclops’ son, Nathan, with a deadly virus – Cyclops must make a bitter sacrifice! And the current X-Men return to Earth to find that Professor X’s old foe the Shadow King has risen – and taken over Muir Island! It will take the combined strength of X-Factor and the X-Men to triumph – and when the dust clears, the two teams will become one! An uncanny new era begins as the reunited X-Men go back to basics, beginning with a deadly confrontation with Magneto and his fanatical Acolytes!

The previous volumes in this are: Children Of The Atom, Lonely Are The Hunted, The Sentinels Live, It’s Always Darkest Before The Dawn, Second Genesis, Proteus, The Fate Of The Phoenix, I Magneto, The Gift, Dissolution And Rebirth. There should be an 18th bind up, but I currently can’t find the title of it, which is annoying.

And that’s everything releasing this week! What’s on your pull list, tell me down below!
