June 16th Marvel Comic Releases

It’s a new week, so it’s time I gave you this week’s new comic book releases!

Single Issues:

CAPTAIN AMERICA ANNUAL by Gerry Duggan and Jed MacKay

CAPTAIN AMERICA VERSUS OVERTIME! The fugitive known as Overtime broke out of death row when the time stone chose to bond with his soul, giving him powers he barely understood. Now, thanks to Captain America… his time is up. ALSO IN THIS ISSUE: Part 2 (of 8) of “Super-Spy vs. Super-Spy”!

From what I can tell, this story started in Iron Man Annual issue 1 and continues in Black Cat issue 1.

DEMON DAYS: MARIKO by Peach Mariko

IN THE SHADOW OF KIRISAKI MOUNTAIN… A SECRET HISTORY COMES TO LIGHT!
The DEMON DAYS saga by STORMBREAKER PEACH MOMOKO continues! Mariko Yashida hears mysterious voices and has strange dreams that feel real. Her redheaded maid who dresses all in black might know more than she lets on. What is the connection between Mariko, the creatures called Oni and Kirisaki Mountain? Find out in the next instalment of this tale of magic, monsters and Marvel characters like you’ve never seen them before, beautifully rendered by Peach Momoko! Book TWO of FIVE of the DEMON DAYS saga!

The first issue in this series is Demon Days: X-Men.

HEROES REBORN: WEAPON X AND FINAL FLIGHT by Ed Brisson

THEY’RE THE BEST THERE IS AT WHAT THEY DO!
In a world without the Avengers, the Squadron Supreme protects and defends the interests of America! But where does that leave a country like Canada? The Great White North is now a wasteland. Their forests are scorched. Their provinces annexed. Their people barely surviving. Who will stand up and protect them from the supremacy of the Squadron? Weapon X and Final Flight, that’s who!

Just make sure you’ve read the Heroes Reborn run first!

PLANET-SIZED X-MEN by Gerry Duggan

THEY CAME TO SLAY!
The HELLFIRE GALA rages on, but bigger things are afoot a world away. Make no mistake – this is an X-Men book drawn by superstar artist Pepe Larraz. It is absolutely the most important issue of the month.

Make sure you’re all caught up with the X-Men before reading this! I’ve currently got a guide up for Dawn Of X, and will be getting a part 2 up when Marvel releases a few more bind ups!

Bind ups:

POWER PACK CLASSIC OMNIBUS VOLUME 02 by Louise Simonson

Share the growing pains of Marvel’s super-powered siblings, Power Pack! Still getting used to their mixed-up abilities, Alex, Julie, Jack and Katie take on an old foe – with help from the New Mutants! But the Bogeyman becomes more monstrous than ever amid a demonic invasion that changes everything! The Punisher drops by, Franklin Richards returns and the Pack heads to space for a revelation-filled rematch with the Snarks! The kids struggle with peer pressure, pollution and puberty – and Alex goes through some very unexpected changes! But will the Powers’ powers ever go back to normal?

The first volume is called ‘volume 1’!

POWER PACK POWERS THAT BE by Ryan North

Power Pack is back! Katie, Julie, Jack and Alex Power have been super-heroing since they were learning to tie their shoes – but it’s been ages since they fought side by side as a family. Now a special occasion – and an old grudge – is about to bring the family back together. There’s just one hiccup: a brand-new law outlawing underage vigilantes! But surely if the fate of all of New York City is at stake, the powers that be will make an exception? Don’t bet on it! To comply with the rules, the Pack needs an adult mentor – but who in the Marvel Universe will take the job? Whoever it is, they’ll have their hands full when the Powers’ powers start to shut down…which is a bad time for the Taskmaster to come to town!

This is a more child friendly team, but, as you can tell from the ‘classic omnibus’ they’re a long running one – I’d at least look up the Power Pack before reading this, just in case.

THOR BY JASON AARON COMPLETE COLLECTION VOLUME 03

When Dr. Jane Foster lifts the mystic hammer Mjolnir, she is transformed into the Goddess of Thunder – the Mighty Thor! Her enemies are many, as Asgard continues a descent into chaos and war threatens to spread through the Ten Realms. Yet Jane’s greatest battle will be against a far more personal foe: the cancer that is killing her mortal form. As Loki steps back into Thor’s life, the dark elf Malekith continues to fan the flames of war. And the skies will shake in one of the bloodiest battles of all time: Thor vs. Odin! Meanwhile, Roxxon and S.H.I.E.L.D. complicate Jane’s life – but can anything prepare her for a war between Asgard and the Shi’ar? Perhaps the returning Odinson will lend a hand as the conflict escalates – and the Phoenix Force rises from the flames!

The first two volumes are just named Complete Collections Volume 1 and 2. Also, if you need some help with this Thor run, I have a handy guide here!

THOR BY DONNY CATES VOLUME 02: PREY

Something is wrong with Mjolnir! All-Father Thor needs his hammer now more than ever before…and yet the Uru grows heavier with each passing day. What will it take for the God of Thunder to hold on to one of the most powerful weapons in the Multiverse? Thor decides to reinvigorate himself by revisiting his old mortal persona after so many years, but he isn’t ready for the Donald Blake that awaits him – and neither is Asgard! As a trapped God of Thunder faces the Midgard Serpent, Jane Foster reckons with her former lover…reborn into reality and now a deadly enemy! With the fate of the Ten Realms in the balance, Thor must find a way to battle a crazed and determined Dr. Donald Blake – and when the hammer comes down, only one man will remain standing!

The first volume is called The Devourer King!

MARVEL MASTERWORKS: DAREDEVIL VOL 15 by Frank Miller

One of the most influential runs in not just Marvel history, but all of comics history begins with the arrival of Frank Miller as the creative force behind DAREDEVIL! Miller remade the mythos of the Man Without Fear, first illustrating Roger McKenzie’s scripts with art partner Klaus Janson, then taking over as both writer and artist. Miller grinds the grit of New York City’s streets into every page, blending super heroics with the dark tone of noir crime thrillers. DD squares off against Doctor Octopus, the Hulk, Gladiator and the psychotic side of Bullseye before Miller introduces a new icon: the assassin Elektra! And her tempestuous relationship with Matt Murdock will form the unforgettable backdrop to DD’s war against the Kingpin!

The previous volumes are all numbered!

HEROES REBORN OMNIBUS by Rob Liefeld

Marvel’s greatest heroes, revamped and reborn! Featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, the FF and more – on a whole new world, boldly reimagined by the hottest creators of the 1990s! Steve Rogers takes on the mantle of the Sentinel of Liberty, gains a brand-new sidekick and faces down the Red Skull! A fun reimagining of classic Marvel characters!

CAPTAIN AMERICA BICENTENNIAL BATTLES: NEW TREASURY EDITION by Jack Kirby

The Marvel Treasury Edition that celebrated 200 years of the United States of America is back, as big as life and better than ever! From the unparalleled imagination of Jack Kirby, it’s a time-spanning adventure featuring Captain America on an incredible journey through his nation’s past – from the American Revolution through two world wars…and more! Steve Rogers meets major historical figures, makes quite an impact on Benjamin Franklin – and takes inspiration from two centuries of American struggle and progress! Reprinted in all its oversize glory along with suitably patriotic special features, this is one of the Sentinel of Liberty’s wildest adventures of all, without which no Cap collection is complete!

Definitely one for Captain America, and history, fans alike!

And that’s everything coming out! What’s on your pull list this week? For me, it has to be Jason Aaron’s Thor Complete Collection!
