Only a few offerings this week in terms of comic release, but there’s certainly some interesting things on offer!
HEROES REBORN SQUADRON SAVAGE by Ethan Sacks
ELEKTRA LEADS A TEAM OF THE WORLD’S DEADLIEST HEROES AND VILLAINS – WITH ALL OF REALITY HANGING IN THE BALANCE!
There are some threats that require a more savage approach than the Squadron Supreme of America can offer. For those missions, the Department of Defence has put together a team consisting of Elektra, the Punisher, Crossbones, Cloak and the enigmatic Murder Hornet. They must fight their way through a team of super-powered terrorists known as the Redeemers-if they don’t kill one another first! Prepare for twists, turns, double crosses and action aplenty!
For this, make sure you’ve read the available issues of the Heroes Reborn run first!
HEROES REBORN NIGHT-GWEN by Vita Ayala
INTRODUCING: NIGHTBIRD! By day, Dr. Gwendolyn Stacy is Ravencroft Asylum’s leading psychiatrist. But by night, she dons the guise of the vigilante known as Nightbird! But how did this happen? Why did this happen? And what does Kyle Richmond, the Nighthawk, have to do with it? There may not be any time to find out, because Nightbird must hunt down a new killer called the Jackal!
Same advice applies – make sure you’ve read the main Heroes Reborn run first.
WEB OF SPIDER-MAN by Kevin Shinick
Peter Parker. Spider-Man. Scientist. Troublemaker? Thanks to none other than Tony Stark, a new scientific research station for the teenage heroes of the Marvel Universe has just been completed – and Spider-Man just got an invitation to join! Working alongside some of your favourite faces from the MU and a whole bunch of awesome new gadgets, and with Iron Man keeping an eye on the them, surely everything’s going to go great for the heroes, right?
… Right? Face front, True Believers, and treat yourself to this first issue in an adventure of the WORLDWIDE ENGINEERING BRIGADE!
As this is a start of a new series, I’m pretty sure you can read this without prior knowledge, especially as it was designed to release at the same time as Avengers Campus. But, as always, if you do read this and have any questions regarding characters, etc, do let me know and I’ll do my best to give you all the answers you need!
INCREDIBLE HULK EPIC COLLECTION: MAN OR MONSTER by Stan Lee
Dr. Robert Bruce Banner may look like a mild-mannered scientist, but after being caught in a gamma bomb explosion, he became the unstoppable engine of destruction known as the Hulk! Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s atomic update on the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde paradigm mixed the might of giant monsters with Cold War intrigue and psychological drama. Decades later, it’s a formula that still has readers clamoring for more! For the first time, this Epic Collection follows Hulk’s every adventure. His original series; his time with – and against – the Avengers; his first confrontation with the Thing; encounters with Spider-Man and Ant-Man and a mythic battle with Thor!
Like it says in the synopsis – this is the start of Hulk’s story, featuring his introduction and beyond! If you’re looking for the classic Hulk stories, or just want to read Stan Lee’s original works, then this is perfect for you!
IMMORTAL HULK VOL 09: WEAKEST ONE THERE IS by Al Ewing
It’s the rematch everybody wanted – but not like this! The Hulk is broken, friendless and hunted, a shadow of his former self. But there’s nothing like the real Thing! What will happen when Ben Grimm enters the world of the Immortal Hulk? As the year comes to an end, costs are counted – by Jackie McGee, Eugene Judd…and Samuel Sterns. All the Leader’s plans have come together in what may be his greatest triumph! But will that be enough…or will the horrific One Below All still claim his due? Plus: The U-Foes are here – and they know how to finally kill the Immortal Hulk! The new Sasquatch faces something even weirder than himself. Henry Peter Gyrich watches from somewhere far above the world. And with the Hulk’s strength gone, what hope is left…for the weakest there is?
The previous volumes include: Or Is He Both?, The Green Door, Hulk In Hell, Abomination, Breaker Of Worlds, We Believe In Bruce Banner, Hulk Is Hulk and Keeper Of The Door.
BLACK CAT VOL 04: QUEEN IN BLACK by Jed MacKay
Felicia Hardy is back for a classic game of cat and…symbiote? Knull’s attack on Earth interrupts the Black Cat’s latest heist, and if you know Felicia, you know that’s a problem. So the Black Cat and her crew aim to steal something of great value – both to Knull and to Earth’s hope of survival! But Felicia never shows up inappropriately dressed – and you won’t believe it when the Black Cat gets her own Anti-Venom costume! As Felicia adds to her bag of tricks, some of her upgrades may last beyond Knull’s invasion – and could come in handy in a feline fracas with…Queen Cat? Plus: the Black Fox has been sending Felicia and her crew to steal items from all corners of the Marvel Universe – but why? Prepare to find out at last!
The first three volumes are called: Grand Theft Marvel, On The Run and Volume 3 (I don’t know why this one doesn’t have a title listed). I’d also recommend reading at least the main King In Black run by Donny Cates, as this is a tie-in.
THOR EPIC COLLECTION: FINAL GAUNTLET by Tom DeFalco
The return of Thor! The true Odinson has been located at last, and the end of Eric Masterson’s time as the God of Thunder draws near – but will Bloodaxe be his executioner? Or will the cost of freeing the original Thor prove too much to bear? Thor shall battle Thor, and a new heroic legacy awaits! Then, a mighty quest begins for the Odinson – but something is not right! Can Beta Ray Bill stand in the way of an increasingly unbalanced Thunder God? Thor brutally battles the Super-Skrull, Drax and Pluto as the Infinity Crusade rocks the Marvel Universe! Plus: Hold your hammers high as the Thor Corps reunites! Can Dargo Ktor, Beta Ray Bill and Thunderstrike put aside their differences in time to knock Zarrko the Tomorrow Man into next week?
This is book 20 in Thor’s epic collection, the previous volumes are: The God Of Thunder, When Titans Clash, The Wrath Of Odin, The Wake Of Mangog, The Fall Of Asgard, Into The Dark Nebula, A Kingdom Lost, Runequest, War Of The Pantheons, In Mortal Flesh, The Black Galaxy and The Thor War.
SPIDER-GWEN OMNIBUS by Jason Latour, Hannah Blumenreich
Out of the Spider-Verse, Gwen Stacy swings into action as the Spider-Woman of Earth-65 – a neighbourhood like no other! Gwen balances super hero life with being the daughter of a cop – and playing drums in up-and-coming band, the Mary Janes! And you won’t believe her reality’s versions of the Lizard, the Osborns, Matt Murdock, Captain America, Frank Castle and more! The dimension-hopping Gwen joins a team-up of Spider-Women, and sparks fly when she meets Miles Morales! But troubles mount up at home, where she becomes S.H.I.E.L.D.’s most wanted – and problems with her powers lead to the introduction of Earth-65’s Venom!
If you want more Spider-Gwen in your life after watching Into The Spider-verse, then this is the comic to go for! It sets up Gwen’s world really well, and gives a nice insight into her double life!
MARVEL ART OF GEORGE PEREZ by Jess Harrold
Celebrating the artistic legacy of a true Marvel Comics legend! George Pérez first wowed fans in the 1970s, building a phenomenal reputation as a super-team illustrator without peer on AVENGERS, INHUMANS and FANTASTIC FOUR! His talents graced the super hero action of MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE, the martial-arts mayhem of DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG FU and the monster madness of Man-Wolf in CREATURES ON THE LOOSE! Years later, Pérez demonstrated his cosmic grandeur by wiping out half the Marvel Universe along with Thanos in INFINITY GAUNTLET! And as the Avengers made a heroic return in 1998, so too did Pérez, joining writer Kurt Busiek to usher Earth’s Mightiest into a new era of greatness. Nobody can draw an army of heroes in a single image better than George Pérez can!
If you’re a fan of Pérez’s work, then look no further than this hardcover, as it houses some of his best artwork!
And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s on your pull list, I’m not sure yet, so tell me what you’re picking up in the comments to inspire me!
