House Of M Reading Guide Part 2

I promised a part 2 to my House Of M Reading Guide, and now is the perfect time for it, as Comixology (a website where you can buy digital comics) has all of these comics on sale right now!

All of these comics are tie-ins to the main event, focusing on various characters and the ramifications of M-Day!

Prelude: Excalibur by Chris Claremont

Callisto answers a cry for help from Warren Worthington, a.k.a. Archangel! But Callisto and Warren have some pretty unpleasant history between them…can they overcome their differences long enough to survive? Meanwhile, Professor X and Magneto struggle to help their disturbed guest on Genosha.

As the title suggests, this is a prelude to House Of M, though, really it’s only the last issue in this bind up that is actually relevant to the House Of M event, the rest is following Charles and Erik as they try to rebuild Genosha after it was destroyed in Grant Morrison’s X-Men run. But, if you’re looking for something that focuses on Charles and Erik and their difficult relationship over the years – I definitely recommend reading this! The first two in the Excalibur series are: Forging The Sword and Saturday Night Fever.

House Of M: Avengers by Chrisos N Gage

Return to the world of the hit House of M series, where mutants rule the earth and familiar heroes lead shocking, unfamiliar lives! See the history of this alternate reality revealed for the first time! Follow Luke Cage as he goes from wrongly-convicted prisoner to super-powered fugitive – and assembles the band of rebel freedom fighters who will come to be known as the Avengers! Featuring Hawkeye, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Tigra, Mockingbird, and more than a few surprises!

If you’re wondering more about the Avengers team in the alternate universe of House Of M, here is your comic!

House Of M: Civil War by Christos N Gage

Collects Civil War: House of M #1-5. The biggest House of M story is revealed: how did Magneto take over the world? He began life as a penniless refugee, but rose to conquer the entire planet! Witness Magneto’s first battle with the Sentinels…the tragic end of his marriage…and his fight against Apocalypse for leadership of all mutants!

Follow Erik’s rise to power in Wanda’s first alternate reality! TW for World War II and concentration camps at the beginning.

House Of M: Fantastic Four/Iron Man by Greg Pake and John Layman

The Fantastic Four as you never could have imagined them! The trusted advisor at Magneto’s right hand is almost certainly the second most powerful man in the world. But the question is… will second-best be enough for Victor Von Doom? Plus: Tony Stark is the smartest, most successful Sapien on the planet – the best and brightest of a dying species. Does it bother him that the House of M uses the technology produced by Tony’s multi-billion-dollar company to keep Sapiens down? That must be the reason he keeps his most powerful creation a secret – a familiar-looking suit of armour!

Another comic focusing on the mutant-lead universe!

House Of M: Incredible Hulk by Peter David

In the House of M, it’s the Hulk like you’ve never seen him before! In the Australian outback, Bruce Banner has found a peace he’s never known among a tribe of Aborigines. But when their safety is threatened by a battle between a sect of AIM and the ruling totalitarian mutant government, the Hulk is forced to intervene in a BIG way.

This one can be skipped over, as it doesn’t actually add anything in particular to the main event – it’s focusing on Bruce caught between Mutants and A.I.M. in Australia, which has no real affect on anything. But, it’s a good world building comic, and gives an insight into what Bruce does during the House Of M event!

House Of M: Masters Of Evil by Christos N Gage

You’ve seen how the mutants and the heroes were changed in the world ruled by Magneto…but what about the villains? Their story stands revealed at last as The Hood assembles a gang of the deadliest Sapien super-criminals: Madame Masque, The Absorbing Man, Titania, The Wrecking Crew, Nitro, Constrictor, The Sandman, Crossbones, and more! At first, their goal is simple: get rich and get away with it. But their very first job may lead somewhere none of them expected…and incur the wrath of the House of M itself!

A focus on the villains of the Marvel Universe, exploring what happens when they become resistance fighters, and how the mutants fight back against them!

House Of M: Mutopia X by David Hine

Lights, camera, terrorists! Special investigator of human and mutant affairs Ismael Ortega teams up with ordinary cop Lucas Bishop to make sure terrorists from the Human Resistance Movement don’t kill hundreds by sabotaging a glamorous movie premiere! Plus: Ismael’s daughter, Chamayra, prepares to take part in the Rite of Transcendence, a ritual that unleashes the untapped mutant potential in children.

Another comic that isn’t entirely necessary for the event as a whole, and also not one for anyone who hasn’t read District X beforehand.

House Of M: New X-Men by Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir

When orders come down that a leader of the human resistance in Japan must be assassinated, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s highly trained Hellions squad is called in to do it. But when a team of future mutant leaders called the New Mutants find out about this, they must intervene to put an end to a guaranteed disaster of global portions!

Not entirely a necessary read, but, again, another good bit of world building.

House Of M: Spider-Man by Mark Waid

House of M: Spider-Man by Mark Waid

Meet Spider-Man – hero to the people, champion of the weak and oppressed… and World Wrestling Alliance Championship Titleholder?! Peter Parker has it all: respect, fame, and the adoration of all. But he also has a deep, destructive secret that he keeps from the world and from his family – one that could well unravel the reality he knows!

This one is confusing, in terms of where it fits in with the main House Of M event, but I’d still recommend reading it, and bringing tissues while you do. This one gets really emotional!

House Of M: World Of M by Brian Michael Bendis, Reginald Hudlin, Ed Brubaker and Daniel Way

Explore the people and places of the World of M! Includes stories of how Wolverine, Black Panther, Captain America and more have been transformed by the House of M.

Another world builder, this time focusing on various characters of the Marvel Universe and how their lives have changed after M-Day!

And that’s the last of this part to my House Of M reading guide! There’s a couple I’ve left out, simply because they have absolutely nothing to do with House Of M’s main storyline, or are going to go into another reading guide down the line, but currently, this is everything on sale on Comixology that ties into House Of M!

I do have another part coming up to this, where I focus on the Xavier School, Xavier, and Beast’s time-experiments, so be on the look out for that!

But, for now, I hope this was of use, and if you have any questions, please do put them down below and I’ll do my best to give you answers!
