28th April Marvel Comic Releases

Happy new comic book day everyone, let’s get down to business!

Single Issues:

The Marvels by Kurt Busiek

ALL-NEW, ONGOING SERIES!
Kurt Busiek (MARVELS, Astro City) is back, with the biggest, wildest, most sprawling series ever to hit the Marvel Universe, telling stories that span the decades and range from cosmic adventure to intense human drama, from the street-level to the cosmic, starring literally anyone from Marvel’s very first heroes to the superstars of tomorrow. This first issue includes an invasion from orbit, a picnic in Prospect Park, super hero sightseeing in Manhattan, the All-Winners Squad in 1947, Reed Richards during his time in military intelligence, cosmic beings beyond space and time- and that’s only for starters. Featuring Captain America, Spider-Man, the Punisher, the Human Torch, Storm, the Black Cat, the Golden Age Vision, Aero, Iron Man and Thor, and introducing two brand-new characters, all beautifully drawn by Yildiray Cinar (X-MEN, Legion of Super-Heroes, IRON MAN) in the opening act of a thriller that’ll take us across the Marvel Universe…and beyond. Plus: Who (or what) is KSHOOM? It all starts here. And it goes…everywhere.

As this comic focuses on various characters throughout the decades, I’d say you probably need at least a bit of prior knowledge before reading this. But, as always, if you’ve got any specific questions you want answering, drop me a comment and I’ll get the answers to you ASAP!

Spider-Man: Curse Of Man-Thing by Steve Orlando

DISCOVER THE HORROR MAN-THING HIDES WITHIN, IF YOU DARE!
MAN-THING’s supernatural abilities have been pirated thanks to HARROWER, a zealot intent on clearing humanity off the board so a new species can get a shot at the top. The world burns and fear is the accelerant! Meanwhile, SPIDER-MAN races across New York desperate to avert disaster and find the one man that just might be able to get through to Man-Thing…his former colleague CURT CONNORS, A.K.A. THE LIZARD! But deep within the Man-Thing’s psyche, it’s Spider-Man that discovers something he never expected: a devilish secret, and a doctor seeking redemption.

If you want to read this, you’ll definitely need to read Curse Of The Man-Thing by Steve Orlando, released on the 31st of March.

Bind Ups:

Immortal Hulk Volume 3 by Al Ewing

The horrific, critically acclaimed saga of the Immortal Hulk continues! General Fortean has been pursuing his undying foe for some time without success, and now he must make a fateful decision. There can be no more half measures. No weapon is off the table. But his enemy, Bruce Banner, is only getting started. Banner is about to declare war on human society, and he might just be the most dangerous man in the world! As secrets from the far future leak into the past, the Immortal Hulk will be drawn into conflict with the Roxxon Corporation and its ruthless CEO, the man-monster Dario Agger. But when you mess with the Minotaur, you get the horns! And the ever-scheming Agger plans to recruit a Hulk of his own.

You’ll definitely want to read volumes 1 and 2 before this, simply named volumes 1 and 2.

Champions: Worlds Collide by Mark Waid

Worlds collide as the Champions come face-to-face with the Avengers! The countdown for a clash of generations begins when the twisted High Evolutionary sets Earth on a catastrophic collision course with its opposite number: the unnatural Counter-Earth! Can the two teams put their turbulent history aside to meet this planetary threat? Assuming they can find a way to work together, can even this awesome assemblage of heroes save two entire planets from destruction? Our young squad might not all make it out of this in one piece, which can mean only one thing: It’s time for a membership drive!

This comes with a fair amount of prior knowledge, but the main things you need to read are: Civil War II, Avengers: Unleashed Kang War One, Avengers: Four, Avengers: Unleashed Secret Empire, Champions: Change The World and Champions: The Freelancer Lifestyle.

Untold Tales: Spider-Man Omnibus by Kurt Busiek

Join acclaimed tale-spinner Kurt Busiek as he weaves an intricate web of “lost” stories from Peter Parker’s earliest days as a hero, slotting neatly between classic 1960s issues of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN! Swing along with Spidey for a series of untold adventures as the novice hero encounters the Human Torch, Doctor Octopus, the Vulture, Sandman and more classic characters – along with some new ones like Batwing and Bluebird – on his way to becoming Marvel’s premier superstar!

I’d say a newer comic reader, you can probably read this, but you’ll need some knowledge in terms of who the other characters are. And again, drop a comment/message if you want any help!

Wolverine Epic Collection: Madripoor Nights by Chris Claremont and Peter David

He’s the best there is at what he does…but what he does isn’t very nice. And now, Wolverine has broken out of the X-Men and into his own solo series! Feeling the urge to cut loose, Wolverine travels to Madripoor, and East Indian island full of pirates, cutthroats and smugglers…just the way Logan likes it! There, he’ll take on ruthless crime lord Roche, meet the cunning Tyger Tiger, wield the mystical Black Blade, battle superhuman enforcers Roughhouse and Bloodsport, and contend with drug kingpin Nguyen Ngoc Coy and his niece…the former New Mutants known as Karma! Plus: the Hulk comes to town, a formative battle with Sabretooth is revealed, and Wolverine hunts for the Gehenna Stone! Guest-starring Jessica Drew, a.k.a. Spider-Woman!

Perfect for anyone who wants to read more Madripoor-set comics, or just miss Wolverine!

And that’s everything coming out today! What’s on your pull list? I’m definitely looking at Worlds Collide!
