3rd March Marvel Comic Releases

New Comic Day is ramping up again with Marvel releasing loads of new comics, so let’s get into it!

Single Issues:

America Chavez: Made IN USA by Kalinda Vazques

WHO IS AMERICA? America Chavez is incredible – her origins, her strength, her dimension-shattering star portals! But when the foundation of everything she believes is shaken, America will stand up and face the parts of herself she’s been running from. From writer Kalinda Vazquez (Marvel’s Runaways) and artist Carlos Gomez (Amazing Mary Jane) comes an explosive, brand-new story all about what made America Chavez who she is – and what she’ll do to protect the ones she loves.

This comic is definitely not for anyone who doesn’t know America already, so I’d recommend reading Vengeance by Joe Casey, Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen and America by Gabby Rivera to get to know her a bit better first.

King In Black: Wiccan And Hulking by Tini Howard

NO TIME TO CELEBRATE!
Wiccan and Hulkling are freshly off the marriage altar and overdue for a proper celebration. So when the Shi’ar invite them for an all-expenses paid vacation at their glitziest beach resort, you know Wiccan’s already got their bags packed. But they’ll have to hold the champagne – because Knull and his symbiote army are expanding across the galaxy! Tini Howard and Luciano Vecchio give everyone’s favourite Young Avengers a honeymoon to die for!

Another that you’ll need some prior reading for, specifically the Empyre event (various authors) and at the very least the King In Black main run by Donny Cates.

King In Black Handbook by Mike O’Sullivan and The Ohotmu Team

As the dark king Knull descends on the Marvel Universe, the Official Handbook turns its focus to all things symbiote with this new collection of profiles! This issue covers not only symbiote hosts such as Venom (Eddie Brock), Carnage (Cletus Kasady) and Lee Price, but also characters whom symbiotes have affected: Victoria Montesi! Ghost-Spider (Gwen Stacy)! Dylan Brock! Ann Weying! Plus: a profile of Knull, the King of Black himself! And from the pages of THOR: the All-Black – the first symbiote!

An incredible useful guide for anyone who isn’t up to date with all the various Symbiote’s the Marvel universe!

King In Black: Captain America by Danny Lore

Captain America is in a brutal battle to win the streets of Manhattan back from Knull’s forces, aided by the Winter Soldier and the Falcon…but there’s a darkness inside Steve that he’s struggling to shake. Can his closest friends help him through, or will he succumb to the shadows? Danny Lore (IRONHEART 2020) and Mirko Colak (DEADPOOL, PUNISHER) join forces for a twisted and terrifying story at the heart of the war against Knull!

Another King In Black tie in.

Demon Days: X-Men by Peach Momoko

From STORMBREAKER PEACH MOMOKO comes a Marvel story unlike any you’ve ever seen before! A wandering swordswoman with a psychic blade arrives at village that’s being targeted by demons. One demon is black and white with a terrifying red tongue and another may be the strongest demon there is! In the stunning kick-off issue of this prestige quarterly story, you’ll see a revolutionary reimagination of the Marvel Universe that could only come from Peach Momoko. Ready your katana and enter a mysterious world of demons, monsters, mutants, and magic! Book ONE of FIVE of the DEMON DAYS saga!

Marvel’s Stormbreakers is a project dedicated to showcasing up and coming comic book artists, but Peach is the first of the artists to go on to also write a comic! This series can be read by absolute beginners, as it’s a reimagining of the Marvel Universe, so get ready to dive in!

Bind Ups:

Amazing Spider-Man: Last Remains by Nick Spencer

Spider-Man just took the beating of his life – and that’s only the beginning! Kindred – the mystery villain who has been plaguing Peter Parker’s life from the shadows – is stepping out on stage for the first time, and Spider-Man is not ready for the havoc that will result. Now the wall-crawler must seek out the aid of one of his oldest allies: Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. But it’s not going to be enough! To take the fight to Kindred, will Peter be forced to consider the unthinkable? If you think you’ve seen a brutal Spider-Man fight before, you are wrong. This one is going to change the way you look at Spidey – and the way Peter Parker looks at himself!

As this is the eleventh volume, you’ll need: Back To Basics, Friends and Foes, Lifetime Achievement, Hunted, Behind The Scenes, Absolute Carnage, 2099, Threats And Menaces, Sins Rising and Green Goblin.

Captain America Epic Collection: Captain America Lives Again by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas

Transformed by the Super-Soldier Serum from a 98-pound weakling into Captain America, Steve Rogers led the charge to liberate the world from the Axis powers! But before World War II’s end, an accident left him frozen in suspended animation and his sidekick, Bucky, dead. The world kept turning for decades – and when the Avengers finally resuscitated him, Steve Rogers stepped into a life he no longer recognised. He was a man out of time, tormented by the death of his partner – but no less committed to the cause of fighting evil in all its forms! In this Epic Collection, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby bring you the rebirth of an American icon. The rebirth of Captain America!

I’m sure you could read this without reading anything previous, but I’m still going to recommend The Definitive Captain America by Stan Lee, just in case!

Doctor Doom: Bedford Falls by Christopher Cantwell

Eternal reign! After uncovering the Symkarian plot against him, Doctor Doom seeks an “insurance policy” that will ensure his rule over Latveria – forever! But before waging a one-man war on those who usurped his throne, he must embark on a deadly covert mission to find a secret and powerful device – with unlikely ally Kang the Conqueror! Meanwhile, the black hole on the moon is growing critical, and Doom’s brilliant mind may be the only thing that can stop a catastrophe that will wreak havoc through the entire solar system. But when disaster strikes, he finds himself on an Earth he recognises only from dreams and visions. One where a very different Victor Von Doom is the benevolent saviour and leader of humanity. Will Doom heed the lessons of this better world in order to save his own?

The first in this series is Pottersville.

Maestro: Symphony In Gamma Key by Peter David

The story you’ve waited decades for: the origin of the Maestro! Almost 30 years after the landmark tale FUTURE IMPERFECT, legendary INCREDIBLE HULK scribe Peter David returns to the far-future version of the Hulk – the embittered, tyrannical master of what remains of the world! With astounding art from HULK veteran Dale Keown and up-and-coming talent Germán Peralta, MAESTRO answers questions that have haunted Hulk fans for years – and raises some new ones! How did the world fall and the Maestro rise? What happened to the world’s heroes in between? And where is the Hulk we know and love? Plus: Just how did Rick Jones gather all the weapons and collectibles of his super-heroic generation? As a new rebellion begins, the Maestro’s world will never be the same – and neither will the incredible Hulk!

You can read this without having read Future Imperfect, but it may be an idea to, if not just to read another epic Hulk story!

Savage Avengers: Enter The Dragon by Gerry Duggan

The terrible secret of Kulan Gath’s power is revealed! Can Doctor Strange and Elektra deal with this unbelievable horror? Speaking of horror, something is killing the Shuma-Goraths! That would usually be great news, but Kulan Gath thinks he’s finally figured out how to consume the elder god – and that’s bad news for our plane of existence! Strange and Elektra have a plan, though, and the Savage Avengers will assemble! Conan the Barbarian, Wolverine, Black Widow, Hellstrom, Brother Voodoo, Magik and more draw up a last-ditch battle plan – and Conan must wield a most unexpected weapon in the fight against darkness! When Kulan Gath’s plan involves the international drug trade, you can bet on the Punisher crashing the party – but what brings the Black Knight and the Juggernaut into the fray?

The first two volumes are City Of Sickles and To Dine With Doom.

X-Men Epic Collection: Fate Of Phoenix

Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s collaboration ranks among the greatest comics has ever known. But of their many iconic X-MEN stories, none was more epic or influential than the “Dark Phoenix Saga”! The X-Men have fought many battles, set out on galaxy-spanning adventures and grappled with enemies of limitless might, but nothing could prepare them for their most shocking fight: One of their own teammates, Jean Grey, has gained power beyond all comprehension, corrupting her into the Dark Phoenix! Now the X-Men must fight the woman they cherish, or her unquenchable fire will consume the universe itself! Also featuring Wolverine vs. Wendigo, the dystopian “Days of Future Past” and more!

This is fantastic for anyone who wants to know the full Dark Phoenix storyline! There are a few epic collection bind ups before this one (if you want the full X-Men history) and they are: Children Of The Atom, Lonely Are The Hunted, The Sentinels Live, It’s Always Darkest Before Dawn, Second Genesis and Proteus.

X Of Swords by Jonathon Hickman, Tini Howard, Vita Ayala, etc

A tower. A mission. A gathering of armies. Swords will be drawn in the first epic crossover of the astonishing Dawn of X! Wolverine, the X-Men, Cable, X-Force, Excalibur, X-Factor, the New Mutants, the Marauders, the Hellions and the rest of Krakoa’s residents will all feel the effects – but which ten mutants will wield the blades? Weapons both new and familiar are drawn from their scabbards as the X-Men prepare to do mythic battle against a truly daunting foe! Jonathan Hickman and his fellow visionary creators – who have painstakingly put all the pieces into place during Dawn of X – join forces to smash the board! Collecting X OF SWORDS: CREATION, STASIS and DESTRUCTION, X-MEN (2019) #12-15, EXCALIBUR (2019) #13-15, MARAUDERS #13-15, X-FORCE (2019) #13-14, NEW MUTANTS (2019) #13, WOLVERINE (2020) #6-7, CABLE (2020) #5-6, HELLIONS #5-6 and X-FACTOR (2020) #4.

This is a slightly difficult one to place, as I’ve mentioned before the Dawn Of X Reading Order is a bit confusing to say the least, so I’d recommend checking which issues you have in bind up format already before picking this one up, just to make sure you don’t double up on copies. It should be easier to work out if you’re collecting individual teams, but a bit harder if you’ve been collecting Dawn Of X bind ups. Currently, as far as I can tell, you can collect up to Dawn Of X volume 16 without problem.

And that’s everything coming out this week! What’s on your pull list? I’m eyeing up X Of Swords!
