6th January Marvel Comic Releases

Long time, no see everyone, but I’m back now and ready to get stuck into all things Marvel Comics again, so why not start with the first comic releases of the year?

There’s not very many single issues this week, but there are a TONNE of bind ups!

Single Issues:

Symbiote Spider-Man: Marvel Tales by Dan Slott, Jim Shooter and Tom DeFalco

Go back in black with Spider-Man and his symbiotic suit as we celebrate the legacy of the House of Ideas with MARVEL TALES! This anthology series shines a spotlight on fan-favorite characters, features timeless stories and highlights some of Marvel’s most impressive talent from the past eight decades. First, amid the chaos of Secret Wars, there comes a costume in MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS #8 from the titanic team of Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck! But there’s more to the outfit than meets the eye – as Spider-Man, the ferocious Puma and the Fantastic Four all discover in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #256-258 by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz! Plus: A mighty Marvel team-up of legendary Spidey creators Dan Slott and Mark Bagley results in a poignant tale featuring the late, lamented police captain Jean DeWolff, from VENOM SUPER SPECIAL #1!

The next in the Marvel Tales series! You’ll want to have read the Secret Wars event and the Venom Super Special first, to get some context! You can also try to find Amazing Spider-Man from 1963, but it may be a bit difficult to get hold of – it’s entirely up to you whether or not you want to find it!

King In Black: Return Of The Valkyrie by Jason Aaron and Torunn Gronbekk

Once there was an entire army of Valkyries, but now Jane Foster is the only one. When the King in Black comes to Midgard, Jane must rebuild the Valkyries to help stop him -starting with Hildegarde, a warrior from Asgard’s own hallowed halls, and X-Man Dani Moonstar, a former Valkyrie herself. But what Jane doesn’t know…is that she never was the only Valkyrie after all. Who is the fourth warrior?

The next in the King In Black event – you’ll want to read the previous issues under this title (both released in November/December time), and you’ll definitely want to read Jason Aaron’s Thor run, and the Jane Foster Valkyrie series first, to get context as to just why Jane is a Valkyrie in the first place!

Eternals by Keiron Gillen

What’s the point of an eternal battle?
For millions of years, one hundred Eternals have roamed the Earth, secret protectors of humanity. Without them, we’d be smears between the teeth of the demon-like Deviants. Their war has waged for all time, echoing in our myths and nightmares.
But today, Eternals face something new: change. Can they – or anyone on Earth – survive their discovery?

This is the perfect thing to start collecting, as it’s focusing on the Eternals and the Deviants – the main heroes/villains of the new Eternals movie! Obviously, it’s entirely possible that the film will not be airing this year, but it doesn’t hurt to start reading up on them now!
