4th November Marvel Comic Releases

Happy new comic book day everyone, and today is a busy one, so let’s get into it!

Single issues:

Hellstrom: Marvel Tales by Gary Friedrich and John David Warner

Daimon Hellstrom, the Son of Satan himself, burns his way into your brain as we celebrate the legacy of the House of Ideas with MARVEL TALES! This anthology series shines a spotlight on fan-favorite characters, features timeless stories and highlights some of Marvel’s most impressive talent from the past eight decades. First, the Son of Satan makes his daring debut as a tormented exorcist in GHOST RIDER (1973) #1! Next, Daimon enters his father’s domain and faces an unholy family reunion in SON OF SATAN #1! A marriage made in heaven takes center stage as Daimon and his then-wife, Patsy Walker, star in MARVEL FANFARE (1982) #59! And there’ll be hell to pay when Daimon, now an occult investigator, comes face-to-face with his own demonic doppelganger in HELLSTORM: PRINCE OF LIES #1!

If you’re looking for a place to start with Daimon, this is the definitive one to go for! Or, if you just want to find some Helstrom recommendations separate from my own, this is a great place to start!

US Agent: by Christopher Priest

CHRISTOPHER PRIEST & STEFANO LANDINI BRING BACK THE SUPER-SOLDIER YOU LOVE TO HATE!
“American Zealot” Chapter 1 of 5: John Walker, the former Super Patriot, has been stripped of his official USAgent status and is now operating as an independent government contractor protecting government covert interests. His latest protection detail draws him into a conflict between a small town and the corporate giant trying to destroy it. John acquires a new partner and new enemy along the way while being haunted by ghosts from his past and confronting challenges to his future.

This is probably not the best place to start when it comes to the character of US Agent (I’ll write a guide when Falcon And The Winter Soldier comes out), but this will be great for fans of him already!

Web of Venom: Empyre’s End by Clay McLeod Chapman

•  MEANWHILE one ancient entity at the edge of the universe has awoken. Born of hate and darkness, it’s the entity that feeds on chaos and brutality-and one group of unlucky fighters is about to face it head-on…

Another spin off from the Empyre event, as well as the Web of Venom series, so make sure to check those out first!

The mysterious mutant has gone by many names and lived many different lives.  Now, experience ALL-NEW untold tales of the best there is through the lens of an all-star cast of creators, in the unadulterated black and white format (with a healthy splash of blood red all over)!

Parental Advisory

This sounds like a series I’m going to have to do a guide on! But for now, if you’re a fan of Wolverine comics, this is going to be perfect for you!

This is a collection of classic Venom stories from the 60’s, so if you want to check out some classic Venom – this is for you!

Star: Birth Of A Dragon by Kelly Thompson

The breakout character from CAPTAIN MARVEL flies solo! Ambitious reporter Ripley Ryan recently became the hero Star, adored by all. But in truth she was Dr. Minerva’s attempt at a Kree/human weapon. Star tried to kill Captain Marvel – and failed. Ripley was locked in the Raft, defeated and powerless. But now the Reality Stone has found her, and no prison can hold her! You thought you knew what the Infinity Stones were capable of? Think again! As Star struggles to master her abilities, the Scarlet Witch pays her a visit. But is Wanda here to guide a fledgling hero – or put down a deadly villain? And when news spreads about Ripley’s new power, she becomes the target of the galaxy’s greatest hunters – including Thanos’ deadly Black Order! And as everything unravels for Star, Captain Marvel shows up for a rematch!

This is a spin off from Kelly Thompson’s 2019 Captain Marvel series, so read that first to get your introduction to Ripley!

Marvel-verse: Deadpool And Wolverine by Paul Tobin and Fred Van Lente

Feisty fun for the whole family with two of Marvel’s most popular superstars! Everybody loves Deadpool, right? Somebody ought to tell the Avengers! Can the Merc with a Mouth fast-talk his way out of a confrontation with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? At least Spider-Man can see Wade Wilson’s appeal – until a day in the life of Deadpool shows him a little something about power and irresponsibility. Wolverine’s keen to teach Spidey a lesson too, when he finds out the webhead is following him -and he is one tutor who makes sure you get the point! And what was Wolvie up to just before he first tangled with the Hulk?

Deadpool, Spider-man and Wolverine, what more could anyone want? I’m certainly going to be buying this one!

X-Men S.W.O.R.D.: No Time To Breathe by Kieron Gillen

Spinning out of Joss Whedon’s ASTONISHING X-MEN comes a story that will take you places you’ve never been! Following the Skrulls’ secret invasion, Agent Abigail Brand is no longer the top dog at S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department) – a spy agency dealing with extraterrestrial threats to world security. Forced to share leadership with former Avengers liaison Henry Peter Gyrich, Brand is less than pleased. Will the arrival of her boyfriend, the Beast, help her out of her funk? Not when they discover that Gyrich’s plan for fixing S.W.O.R.D. is to rid Earth of all aliens! Now, facing threats from within and without, can Brand and Beast – with help from Lockheed the dragon – regain control of S.W.O.R.D., stop an angry alien invasion and prevent the arrests of Earth’s entire non-human population? Guest-starring Death’s Head!

Not going to lie, I’m very excited for this one! I’ve been so interested in the S.W.O.R.D. section of the Marvel Universe, this is going to be the perfect read! Though, again, check out Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men to get the full story!

Marvel: Art Of Adam Kubert by Jess Harrold

The son of an industry pioneer who became a comic book legend in his own right, Adam Kubert’s momentous contribution to the Marvel Universe is celebrated in this lavishly illustrated art book! Follow his career from the WOLVERINE and UNCANNY X-MEN runs that made him a fan-favorite through his sensational stints illustrating such Marvel icons as the Hulk, Spider-Man and Captain America – including his modernized versions of classic characters in ULTIMATE X-MEN and ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR! And don’t forget blockbuster series such as ASTONISHING SPIDER-MAN & WOLVERINE and AVENGERS VS. X-MEN! Featuring behind-the-scenes artwork demonstrating Kubert’s creative process, a gallery of rarely seen variant covers and a vast array of action-packed images from his three-decade-long association with the House of Ideas – including his recent return to WOLVERINE for the Dawn of X!

Another art book – the perfect Christmas present for fans of Kubert’s artwork!

Heroes Reborn: Ion Man by Jim Lee

In 1996, the hottest creators of the day teamed up to reimagine and reinvigorate Marvel’s greatest heroes. The Avengers and Fantastic Four were reborn with bold new looks on a brave new world, their origins re-envisioned with a raw vitality and contemporary sensibility! Industrialist Tony Stark has donned experimental armour, becoming the heroic Iron Man – but he wasn’t the first. Haunted by memories of his friend Rebel O’Reilly, killed during testing of the armour, can Tony handle the threat of the Hulk? When Doctor Doom targets Iron Man, painful ghosts of the past re-emerge. And Tony will need to channel every ounce of inventiveness he has if he hopes to stop Galactus!

Perfect for those who want to read all of Tony’s comics, but don’t want to read eighty-odd years of canon! This should give you everything you need to know about Tony and his current continuity. Or, at least, should give you a very, very good start!

Iron Man 2020: Robot Revolution: IWolverine by Dana Schwartz

No robot is safe in the wake of Arno Stark’s crusade against A.I.s! Fearing for his friend Elsie-Dee’s safety, Albert – the robot Wolverine – travels to Madripoor to find her. But what he finds is bloodshed! Meanwhile, Pepper Potts moved on from Tony Stark. She’s getting her life together, finding her place in the world. Unfortunately, that’s exactly when Tony decides it’s time for a full-blown meltdown. And if Pepper can’t suit up and save the day, he’s toast. This is a job for Rescue! And with the Robot Revolution in full swing, Riri “Ironheart” Williams and N.A.T.A.L.I.E. – the A.I. based on her late best friend – are in for a world of trouble. Can they weather the coming storm together, or will 2020 tear them apart?

The final part of the Iron Man 2020 event! The previous two volumes have been released in previous weeks

Empyre: X-Men by Johnathon Hickman, Tini Howard, Vita Ayala, Zeb Wells and more

Alien plants vs. mutant zombies! Plant people from outer space have come to Earth as part of the cosmic events of EMPYRE – but wouldn’t you know it, they happen to arrive just as millions of deceased mutants rise from the grave as undead creatures hungry for human flesh! What are the odds? And can even the X-Men handle two simultaneous crises? Aliens! Plant-men! Mutants! Zombies! Demons! Explosions! This one has it all – and then some! The X-Men return to the graveyard island of Genosha in a tale so crazy, it took the entire writing crew of the Dawn of X line to tackle it!

The second bind up in the Empyre event! You’ll need the prelude first, as well as House Of X/Powers Of X and the Dawn of X series, but other than that, you should be fine reading this!

Black Panther Volume 3: Intergalactic Empire Of Wakanda part one by Ta-Nehisi Coates

A bold new direction for the Black Panther! For years, T’Challa has protected Wakanda from all invaders. Now, he will discover that his kingdom is much bigger than he ever dreamed. Prepare to journey to the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda! A Panther story unlike any other begins with T’Challa as a stranger in a strange land – with no memory of his past, only the suffering of a present spent toiling in the Vibranium mines. But all hope is not lost. A rebellion is growing – and they have a plan. Who will lead these lost citizens? What is the M’Kraan Shard? And what role will Erik Killmonger play?! Ta-Nehisi Coates continues his ever-surprising saga of a king who sought to be a hero…a hero who was reduced to a slave…a slave who became a legend!

You’ll want to catch up on Ta-Nehisi’s Black Panther run (A Nation Under Our Feet, Avengers Of The New World) first, but this gives you the first twelve issues of Intergalactic Empire Of Wakanda in one easy bind up!

Amazing Spider-man Volume 9: Sins Rising by Nick Spencer

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BY NICK SPENCER TP VOL 09 SINS RISING

For months, perhaps years, he has crawled in the shadows, manipulating events from afar. Now the demon known as Kindred is finally ready to take his revenge – not on Spider-Man, but on Peter Parker! And he’s resurrected one of Spidey’s most disturbing foes: the fanatical Sin-Eater! But who is the Sin-Eater, and why is it so terrifying that he’s back? What secret history will be revealed? And who will the shotgun-toting villain target in the here and now? The Lethal Legion has returned to threaten the Big Apple, but they’re about to end up in the Sin-Eater’s sights! Can Spider-Man stop the murderous vigilante from taking deadly aim? Should he? And as Sin-Eater’s appetite for sins to punish grows greater still, he turns his attention to…the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane!

There are eight previous volumes (Back To Basics, Friends and Foes, Lifetime Achievement, Hunted, Behind The Scenes, Absolute Carnage, 2099/2099 Companion, Threats and Menaces) so make sure you read those first!

And that’s the end of the list! What’s on everyone’s pull list? I’m definitely picking up Empyre, No Time To Breathe and Deadpool And Wolverine!
