October 7th Marvel Comic Releases

A quick note before we start – in the UK, it looks like a lot of comic shops are going to be a little late on this week’s new releases – so you may have to wait until Thursday to collect your orders!

Single Issues:

Spider-Man Marvels Snapshot by Howard Chaykin

Let’s say you’re a lowlife criminal in Manhattan, just trying to get by in a world that’s recently gotten full of spider-men, daredevils, power men and more, and you just want to make a decent illegal living. Plenty of henchman work available, if you don’t mind ending up in traction. And oh yeah, there’s a brewing super villain gang war building. What do you do? Keep your head low or go for the big win?

The next one in the Snapshot’s series, which offers new and unusual viewpoints on our favourite Marvel characters! Previous issues have covered Cyclops and Namor!

Original Marvel Zombies: Marvel Tales by Mark Millar and Robert Kirkman

The relentless Marvel Zombies rise from the dead as we celebrate the legacy of the House of Ideas with the era-spanning MARVEL TALES! This anthology series shines a spotlight on fan-favorite characters, features timeless stories and highlights some of our most impressive talent from the past eight decades. When the Reed Richards of the Ultimate Universe makes contact with his counterpart from another Earth, it looks like a marvelous crossover – until the terrifying truth is revealed!

Another great way to see some highlights of past eras of Marvel! The Marvel Zombies series hasn’t entirely been my favourite, but if you’re looking for some zombie-fied superheroes from the Halloween season, this is, obviously, the best place to start!

Champions by Eve Ewing

A law is passed that goes against everything Ms. Marvel, Nova and Spider-Man founded the Champions for…But the world still needs heroes, even if the world doesn’t want them right now. After Ms. Marvel makes an unexpected and emotional announcement that her team won’t go down without a fight, a group of teen vigilantes gathers to plan their next move. But the C.R.A.D.L.E. task force is hot on their trail, and there’s a spy in their midst…

Eve Ewing is an incredible writer, and one I cannot wait to read this series! I’d recommend catching up on Champions (Avengers & Champions, Because The World Still Needs Heroes, Champions For A Day, Northern Lights, Weird War One, Beat The Devil, Give & Take) first though, just to get to know the team and their dynamics!

Bind-ups:

Spider-Man: Road To Venom by Len Kaminski

The full story of Eddie Brock’s transformation into Venom! Take one symbiotic costume spurned by Spider-Man! Add one disgraced reporter who blames the loss of his career on the same friendly neighborhood wall-crawler! Together, they will become the deadliest foe Peter Parker has ever faced! Experience the shocking saga of the Sin-Eater that led to Eddie’s downfall. And the dark origin of Venom that reveals how two lost souls with a shared hatred of Spidey became one – and explores the twisted roots that led them there! Plus: Flash back to a tale from Eddie’s past as a cub reporter at the Daily Globe – on the hunt for a monster!

If you enjoyed Tom Hardy’s take on Venom and want to get into the comic version, there is no better way to start than his origin story!

Road To Empyre by Al Ewing

Get ready for EMPYRE – the cosmic saga set to rock the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the entire Marvel Universe! A mysterious murder brings together an army of heroes in the search for a killer – setting the stage for the conflicts to come! When everything suddenly changes for the Kree and Skrull empires, the Warner family from MEET THE SKRULLS is left out in the cold on Earth. They need to work out how this cosmic crisis affects the future of their family – and their race! And that means Mom educating her kids on just how the Kree and the Skrulls first went to war! Plus: Get all the facts on the major players in this epic event with the official handbook to EMPYRE!

If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting for the Empyre bind ups (I personally find them easier to read than single issues) And seeing as this is the Road To Empyre, this is the place to start!

New Mutants Epic Collection: Cable by Louise Simonson

Watch out, New Mutants – here comes the man called Cable! With the rest of the team in Asgard, Freedom Force arrests Rusty and Skids. The terrorist Mutant Liberation Front demands their release, but a mysterious metal-armed, gun-toting warrior with a glowing eye is targeting the MLF for reasons of his own! The New Mutants make the dangerous passage back to Earth, but soon cross paths with Cable – and their lives will never be the same! The forceful reinvention of the New Mutants begins here as Professor X’s former students join Cable to tackle threats including Sabretooth, Skrulls and the shadowy Stryfe! Plus: The New Mutants battle Atlanteans, face their futures and tune in to TV land!

You will definitely want to read New Mutants Epic Collection: Curse Of The Valkyries first!

King Deadpool: Hail To The King by Kelly Thompson

A new era begins for the Merc with a Mouth! Deadpool’s latest job has him going after the King of Monsters, who has claimed a new kingdom for his terrifying subjects: Staten Island! Soon, Wade Wilson finds himself with a new royal role – one that leaves him neck-deep in political intrigue, with major obstacles including Captain America and the monster-hunting Elsa Bloodstone in his way! Heavy hangs the head that wears the crown – particularly when it’s in the sights of some of the deadliest people in the Marvel Universe! And Wade will find that out firsthand when Kraven the Hunter tries to take the throne for himself! Plus: The X-Men moved to a new island home – and nobody invited Deadpool! Well, that won’t stop him crashing the party on Krakoa!

This does tie into Dawn Of X, so be careful if you haven’t read that series, but generally you can’t go wrong with Kelly Thompson and Deadpool!

Black Widow Epic Collection: Coldest War by Ralph Macchio

The Black Widow goes solo in adventures that defined her as one of Marvel’s greatest heroes! In one of the most beloved Black Widow stories of all time, enter a web of intrigue as Natasha navigates a complex maze of international espionage orchestrated by an old foe! Then, a revelation regarding the Red Guardian draws Black Widow back into a Russian spymaster’s crosshairs. Plus: Natasha teams with the Punisher to take down a rogue former government agent, reunites with Daredevil to investigate the murder of S.H.I.E.L.D. psychics and returns to post-Soviet Russia with Nick Fury!

Another one probably released to tie into the now delayed Black Widow movie, but perfect to collect now to read in May (or sooner, if you can’t wait that long!)

It’s a pretty small release day this week, so that’s it! What’s on everyone’s pull list, I’m definitely checking out King Deadpool!
