September 16th Marvel Comic Releases

New Comic Book Day has rolled around again, so here’s all the single issues and bind ups from Marvel on offer this week!

Single Issues:

True Believers – X-Men: MAGIK by Various Authors

X-MEN TRUE BELIEVERS MONTH! Reprinting: Magik (1983) #1.

You know I mentioned the Storm and Illyana comic in my Magik character profile? This is the first issue of that series, so if you want to know more about Illyana, this is the perfect place to start!

X-Men Marvels Snapshot by Jay Edidin

The Marvels Snapshot tour through Marvel history continues, showcasing Marvel’s greatest characters through the eyes of ordinary people! Or does it? In this case, the “ordinary person” is teenaged Scott Summers, witnessing the dawn of the Marvel Age from a Nebraska orphanage and wondering what his place in it might be. What was it like to experience the debut of the FF, the Hulk, Iron Man and more? To wish you could be a part of it all? Writer Jay Edidin (Thor: Metal Gods, Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men) makes his Marvel comics debut, teamed with Tom Reilly (Immortal Hulk), to tell a story of upheaval and decision that would shape the X-Men (and the Marvel Universe) forever after.

A very interesting concept, especially if you’re interested in the history of your favourite heroes!

Amazing Spider-Man Sins Of Norman Osborn by Nick Spencer

• The Sin-Eater has leveled up thanks to Kindred, and his evil plan is WORKING – New York City is on fire at its own hand, Ravencroft is under siege and Spider-Man seems to be the only one who knows right from wrong anymore.
•  He certainly can’t look for help from Ravencroft’s chief administrator, NORMAN OSBORN, whose past will haunt both himself and Spider-Man!
•  So Spidey calls his Amazing friends Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Ghost-Spider, Spider-Girl and Madame Web in to help. The Order of the Web is born.

This looks to be a spin off from the Ravencroft storyline, so I’d check those out first, just in case.

Iron Man by Christopher Cantwell

BIG IRON!
Tony Stark is looking to restart his engine. He decides he’s going back to basics, putting away his high-tech toys and high-profile image so he can get his hands dirty again. It’s time to dig into the guts of real machines, put on some old-fashioned metal and fly.
But can he really lay that Stark-sized ego down? Life isn’t that simple, something that old friends and frustrating foes are quick to point out. If you strip down a billionaire to his bolts, does he run solid or just overheat?
Tony’s going to find out once a threat to the entire universe rears its head from the past. As he suits up again, Tony remains sure of one thing: he’s still IRON MAN down to his flesh and blood core.

An interesting look into Tony, and who he is outside of Iron Man, I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for this!

Immortal Hulk by Bill Mantlo, Peter David and Al Ewing

THE REAL STORY OF BRIAN BANNER – WITH A NEW TALE BY AL EWING!
Al Ewing and Joe Bennett’s Immortal Hulk series has illuminated the Hulk’s history like none before it. This special issue reprints INCREDIBLE HULK #312 and INCREDIBLE HULK #-1, two of the pivotal stories that inspired the Immortal take on Brian Banner, Bruce’s father and the terrifying conduit to the One Below All. Plus: A brand-new story reveals yet more secrets behind this mastermind of cruelty. A can’t-miss issue for any Immortal Hulk fanatic!

If you missed the Immortal Hulk series the first time round, this is a great time to grab this reprint!

Giant Sized X-Men: Storm by Johnathon Hickman

In GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: JEAN GREY & EMMA FROST, Hickman and Dauterman took Jean and Emma into Storm’s mind to learn what had happened to her. Now they take the X-Men’s resident goddess to the far end of the world to save herself!

Okay, so before you read this one, you’re going to need to read Giant Size X-Men Jean Grey and Emma Frost first. I’d also read House Of X/Powers Of X and Dawn Of X as well, just to make sure I was all caught up in X-Men current events!

Bind-ups:

X-Men Milestones Second Coming by Craig Kyle

The biggest and best adventures of Marvel’s mighty mutants – these are the X-Men Milestones! Mutantkind has never had it worse. The mutant population is down to a mere 181. In the last year, only one mutant has been born: the girl called Hope, believed to be the Mutant Messiah who will re-ignite the species. Hope was raised in the future by Cable, and now the two have returned! But the Human League is bent on eradicating Earth’s final mutants – and they see Hope’s death as the final nail in the coffin. As Bastion and his allies unleash a merciless all-out assault on the X-Men, everything rests on Hope’s shoulders. Will this be mutantkind’s end?

Now this one I can personally attest to being absolutely brilliant. This is a part of the infamous House Of M story, and it’s one of my personal favourites! If you’re looking to collect everything related to the House Of M storyline, this is a must!

X-Men Reload by Chuck Austin

Out of the blockbuster NEW X-MEN finale, the X-Men reload for an astonishing new era! With Jean Grey dead and the school in ruins, how will the X-Men move on? Professor X departs for Genosha as Cyclops and Emma Frost find themselves at a crossroads. Should the Xavier Institute be rebuilt? And what will become of their blossoming relationship? Plus: A Shakespearean saga of two star-crossed lovers – one a mutant and the other a human! The return of Xorn! A surprise twist for Gambit! And the Juggernaut officially joins the X-Men – but if he’s truly as reformed as he seems, why is he still in touch with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants? Experience the final act in Cain Marko’s difficult journey to heroism!

This one comes with a lot of history, so you’ll need to be up to date with everything that comes before it. To find it, just search for Chuck Austen’s New X-Men and it should all come up!

X-Men Grand Design Omnibus by Ed Piskor

Over six tumultuous decades, the X-Men have carved a singular place in comic book lore and popular culture. Now, New York Times best-selling author Ed Piskor (Hip-Hop Family Tree, Wizzywig) takes you on a pulse-pounding tour of X-Men history unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before – an intricate labor of love that stitches together hundreds of classic and obscure stories into one seamless X-Men masterpiece! All three volumes of Piskor’s GRAND DESIGN series are collected in a single volume for the first time – taking you from Professor X’s formation of the original team, through the Second Genesis of the All-New, All-Different X-Men and the devastating Dark Phoenix Saga, to 1980s epics, such as Inferno, that pushed mutantkind to the brink of X-tinction!

If you’re looking for a good place to start with the X-Men, this sounds near perfect!

X-Men/Fantastic Four 4X

Wayward son! Every known mutant lives on Professor X’s newly forged island paradise of Krakoa – except for one. And now the X-Men feel that it’s time for Franklin Richards to come home. There’s only one problem: What does his Fantastic family have to say about that? As lines are drawn, the X-Men face down the Fantastic Four – and nothing will ever be the same! In this brave new Dawn of X, Charles Xavier and his fellow mutants have reshaped the world. But you can’t change a world without encountering its true master: Doom! Now, with the fate of the nation of Krakoa at stake, Franklin faces a momentous decision – and the X-Men and the FF must fight to save the future! Lines will be crossed, enemies will be made – and the Marvel Universe will be turned on its ear!

Another story set in the Dawn of X storyline, so make sure you’ve read that and House Of X/Powers Of X before diving into this!

Spider-man Spider-Verse – Spider-Women by Marv Wolfmand

The Spider-Verse is full of powerful women – and these are some of the most spectacular! Meet Jessica Drew, the original Spider-Woman! She’s determined to put a troubled past behind her – but will she become a super hero, or something else? When Peter Parker comes to Los Angeles, Spider-Woman meets Spider-Man – and she thinks he’s imitating her! Then, Cindy Moon was bitten by the same spider as Peter – and now she’s rebuilding her life as Silk! Plus: In one future, Peter and Mary Jane have a daughter named May “Mayday” Parker – and in another, a girl called Annie. And they’re both amazing! Get to know Spider-Girl and Spinneret as they battle deadly foes on their worlds!

If you’re looking for more female Spider-verse characters, this is the bind up for you! And, it may prove useful in the future, before the all female Into The Spider-Verse film comes out in a few years time!

Amazing Spider-man – The Black Cat Strikes by Roger Stern and Jan Strand

Peter Parker, web-slinging star of the hit video game Marvel’s Spider-Man, now finds himself in the middle of a gang war raging through New York City. But as he butts heads with the likes of Hammerhead and the Maggia, the unexpected reappearance of old flame Felicia Hardy – also known as the Black Cat – sets his world on fire! The Cat’s heroic days are long behind her, but what is the secret behind the treasures she’s stealing? And why would Spider-Man ever let her go?! Witness previously untold tales of their relationship as the Black Cat’s return tangles the web for Peter and Mary Jane – and Hammerhead’s explosive war continues making life complicated for everybody! Featuring the triumphant return of Silver Sable!

This is the start of a series, so there’s luckily nothing to collect before you can read this one!

Marvel Portfolio by Stanley Artgerm

His work has graced titles including ASTONISHING X-MEN, BLACK PANTHER, CAPTAIN MARVEL, MIGHTY THOR, SPIDER-GWEN, ABSOLUTE CARNAGE and more. Avengers Of The Wastelands by Ed Brisson

A new story from the world of OLD MAN LOGAN! In a future where America’s super heroes fell at the Red Skull’s hands over 50 years ago, a new force rises in the Wastelands! Dani Cage wields mighty Mjolnir for the cause of peace, but the Avengers may assemble once more when Doctor Doom’s brutal regime forces Dwight – the owner of the surviving Ant-Man technology – together with Dani and Hulk Jr. in a last-ditch effort to survive! Can they succeed where Logan left off? And what does Captain America’s return herald for the team? The Wastelands are filled with terrors: Baron Blood and his legion of vampires! The Green Goblin! The Enchantress and the Absorbing Man! But none are worse than Doom, and these neophyte Avengers are about to learn that the hard way!

To read this, you’re definitely going to need to read Old Man Logan first!
