September Second Marvel Comic releases

There’s a tonne of comics and bind-ups coming this week, so let’s get into it!

New issues:

Black Widow 1 by Kelly Thompson

Best-selling, Eisner-nominated writer Kelly Thompson (CAPTAIN MARVEL, STAR) and rising star artist Elena Casagrande (Catwoman) launch a new BLACK WIDOW series that changes everything! Natasha Romanoff has been a spy almost as long as she’s been alive. And she’s never stopped running, whether she was working for the good guys…or the bad. But Natasha’s world is about to be upended. Beyond San Francisco’s Golden Gate lies a mystery that only the Marvel Universe’s greatest spy can solve. Don’t miss the heartbreaking thrill ride of 2020!

Kelly Thompson is a fantastic writer – I can’t wait to see what she does with Black Widow!

Marvel Zombies: Resurrection by Phillip Kennedy Johnson

THE MARVEL ZOMBIES RISE AGAIN!
When the corpse of Galactus reaches planet Earth carrying a cannibalistic virus, Spider-Man and a ragtag group of heroes struggle to save survivors and uncover the truth!

I’d recommend reading the original Marvel Zombies run before reading this, but, it seems like you can just start from here as well if you wish!

X-Men True Believers: Wild Child by various authors

X-MEN TRUE BELIEVERS MONTH! Reprinting: Alpha Flight (1983) #11 (A story), Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #51 (A story).

I’m not entirely sure what this one is about, but this may be great for people who read the original and want to revisit the story.

X-Men True Believers Nanny and Orphan Maker by various authors

X-MEN TRUE BELIEVERS MONTH! Reprinting: X-Factor (1986) #35.

Again, this may be great for people wanting to revisit a classic story

The Bind-ups:

The Amazing Spider-man: Threats And Menaces by Nick Spencer

Spider-Man can’t be in four places at once – or can he?! Peter Parker’s life is as complicated as ever, but is science the answer? Meanwhile, J. Jonah Jameson starts his new life as a podcast host – and his first guest is Spider-Man! JJJ and Spidey have been on pretty good terms for a while now, so it’s only fitting that “Jolly” Jonah would sabotage all that and put the entire city in danger, right? Plus: The wall-crawler must roll the dice in the Palace, the new super villain casino run by none other than Chance! And Spidey’s odds don’t look good. But while Peter’s life gets ever crazier, what’s Boomerang up to? And what does it have to do with Mayor Kingpin?

This is the 8th volume is a Spider-Man series, so you should probably get the previous seven (Back To Basics, Friends and Foes, Lifetime, Hunted, Behind the Scenes, Absolute Carnage and 2099) first, or this volume probably won’t make much sense!

Marvel Tales: Captain Britain by Chris Claremont

A legendary hero flies the flag for the United Kingdom as we celebrate the legacy of the House of Ideas with the era-spanning MARVEL TALES! In Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe’s incredible CAPTAIN BRITAIN (1976) #1-2, Brian Braddock must choose between the Sword of Might and the Amulet of Right. Only one will transform him into Captain Britain, champion of Albion! Then, Brian takes a trip across the pond and ends up in Spider-Man’s neighborhood – but their first meeting turns downright murderous, courtesy of Arcade, in MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #65-66 – by the fan-favorite team of Claremont and John Byrne! Then, the sword is drawn in EXCALIBUR (1988) #1 as Claremont joins artist Alan Davis to team Captain Britain and his girlfriend Meggan with a trio of ex-X-Men – Nightcrawler, Shadowcat and Phoenix – to form the UK’s most offbeat super team! Collecting CAPTAIN BRITAIN (1976) #1-2, MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #65-66 and EXCALIBUR (1988) #1.

This sounds like a great place to start with Captain Britain, as it’s covering his origin! Personally, I’m not really interested in Captain Britain, but this may change my mind!

The Black Widow Strikes by Stan Lee

Collecting the complete early adventures, solo series and rare graphic novel appearances of the Black Widow! From her debut as a Russian spy through her early days with the Avengers and her character-defining solo series, the story of Natasha Romanoff is one of comics’ most captivating. She evolves from villain to teammate and finally into a hero all her own. She plays the spy game and fights in the Marvel Universe’s dark corners. And not one of her foes will soon forget the sting of the Black Widow! Collecting AVENGERS (1963) #29-30, #36-37 and #43-44; AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #86; DAREDEVIL (1964) #81; BLACK WIDOW: THE COLDEST WAR GN; PUNISHER/BLACK WIDOW: SPINNING DOOMSDAY’S WEB GN; DAREDEVIL/BLACK WIDOW: ABATTOIR GN; FURY/BLACK WIDOW: DEATH DUTY; JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY (1996) #517-519; material from TALES OF SUSPENSE (1959) #52-53, #57, #60 and #64; AMAZING ADVENTURES (1970) #1-8; BIZARRE ADVENTURES #25; MARVEL FANFARE (1982) #10-13; SOLO AVENGERS #7; MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS (1988) #135; DAREDEVIL ANNUAL #10; and subplot pages from AVENGERS (1963) #16, #32-33, #38-39, #41-42, #45-47, #57, #63-64 and #76.

Perfect for anyone wanting to know more about Black Widow and her origins, or just wants to read some classic stories!

Immortal Hulk: Hulk Is Hulk by Al Ewing

There’s a new monster in town. He’s cuddly. He’s lovable. He’s down with the kids. And he’s available for your corporate retreat. Yes, there was another Hulk once – the one who made all those nasty threats about ending the world. But who needs him? The Living Hulk is here – you might know him as Xemnu. And he’s going to save us all, or your money back! But who will triumph when Xemnu battles Robert Bruce Banner, the strangest man of all time?! Plus: As events grow ever stranger, the Thoughtful Man arrives – and his dreadful thoughts are vast and dark enough to swallow even the Devil. And when the war with the Minotaur finally ends, a grateful humanity will know who saved them all. Can there be a happy ending for the Immortal Hulk? Collecting IMMORTAL HULK #31-35.

Again, this is volume seven of a series, so you’ll need the previous volumes (Or Is He Both?, The Green Door, Hulk In Hell, Abomination, Breaker of Worlds, We Believe In Bruce Banner) first.

Daredevil And Elektra: Love And War by Frank Miller

Writer Frank Miller and artist Bill Sienkiewicz are two visionary creators – and when their talents combine, the results are spectacular! In the acclaimed Daredevil graphic novel LOVE AND WAR, Miller and Sienkiewicz take a unique look at the bitter rivalry between the Man Without Fear and the Kingpin of Crime – as all that Wilson Fisk holds dear is placed in grave danger! And in ELEKTRA: ASSASSIN, Miller’s deadly creation – the Hand’s greatest warrior, the former love of Matt Murdock – returns for a stunning tale of good and evil, life and death, triumph and tragedy! Featuring Sienkiewicz’s startling painted artwork on oversized pages, Daredevil and Elektra have never looked more incredible! Collecting MARVEL GRAPHIC NOVEL: DAREDEVIL – LOVE AND WAR GN and ELEKTRA: ASSASSIN #1-8.

I’m definitely interested in this one – Daredevil and Elektra were childhood favourites of mine!

Tarot Avengers: Defenders by Alan Davis

An all-new epic teaming Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with Marvel’s premier non-team! A strange and impossible lost memory from World War II draws Namor the Sub-Mariner to his onetime compatriot Captain America – but the two heroes and their respective allies soon find themselves pulled into a labyrinth of madness, pain and destruction courtesy of the Infernal Ichor of Ish’lzog! Avenger must battle Defender as the alchemist Diablo casts cards from the deck of fate, pitting hero against hero for his own nefarious purposes! As chaos spreads, the two groups find themselves confronted by the most unlikely characters in Marvel history! Would you believe…the Unbelievables?! And as the cosmic chaos reaches its peak, the Avengers and Defenders are literally merged – becoming composite costumed champions! But can any of them put an end to the reality-altering madness? Collecting TAROT #1-4.

This sounds like an interesting run – I’ve personally never heard of it before, but the concept sounds rather fun!

Return to the Wastelands! In a story set five years before the dystopian classic “Old Man Logan,” the super heroes have fallen. The villains have divided up the country. Yet Clint Barton still lives! The former Hawkeye is going blind, but there’s one last thing he wants to see: revenge for his fallen comrades in arms. And he’s setting what sights he has left on some fearsome foes – including Bullseye, the Red Skull, the Winter Soldier and the multiplying menace of the Madrox Venoms! Moonstone, Baron Zemo and the Weapon X facility await him, but can Clint conclude his quest before his eyes fail him for good? It’s the aged avenging archer as you’ve never seen him before!

I’ve always been interested in the Old Man stories, so I’ll definitely be checking this out!

Great if you want to get into Cloak and Dagger comics, I know I do! And with a character guest list like that, it’s hard to ignore!

Then, when Felicia needs to get someone she loves out of the city immediately, can she trust the Beetle to help? And a trip to Madripoor puts the Black Cat at odds with Wolverine! Will Logan and Felicia keep their claws sheathed long enough to learn who’s pulling both their strings? Plus: Why is the Black Cat proposing marriage to Spider-Man? Is it true love, or just part of her next big scheme?

This is volume two, so you’ll need volume one (Grand Theft Marvel) before this.

And that’s everything coming out today for Marvel! What’s on everyone’s pull list? Let me know down below!
