A Guide To Seanan Maguire Marvel Comics

Seanan Maguire has made a huge name for herself in the world of sci-fi and fantasy novels, but she’s also a writer for Marvel! So, seeing as I just bought some of her comics, I thought I’d share a guide to her work this week!

SpiderGwen – Ghost Spider (Spider-Geddon and The Impossible Year)

Gwen Stacy, the Spider-Woman of Earth-65, makes her sensational return! And she’s picking up right where she left off, fighting crime through her home reality – unaware that it sits on the precipice of interdimensional calamity! Spider-Geddon is about to rock Gwen’s world! Finding herself trapped in a parallel dimension as her friends and fellow Spiders are dying…with her teleporter watch destroyed and no way to get home…what can Gwen do to stop the Inheritors from wreaking havoc across the entire Web of Life and Destiny? And from out of the interdimensional chaos, she must face one of her deadliest enemies yet – the Gwen Goblin! With her life in jeopardy from all sides, is there a reason we’re calling her Ghost-Spider?!

This series ties into the larger Spider-verse series, (guide coming next month), so you’ll need to check those out first, to get the most out of this specific comic. But, it still sounds like a fun ride I cannot wait to jump into!

Ghost Spider – Dog Days Are Over + Vol 2

Gwen Stacy, the former Spider-Woman of Earth-65, makes her way to the Marvel Universe! With a cloud of infamy hanging over her head in her home dimension, Gwen now travels to the Prime Marvel Universe for super hero action…and school?! The newest student at ESU is about to get a crash course in multiversity as she splits her time between the world she loves and the world she’s just getting to know! But what devious villain has their eyes on Gwen’s travels? And is Gwen Stacy, the newly minted Ghost-Spider, ready for what comes next?

For some reason Volume 2 doesn’t have a title, but this is a tie into the Spider-verse story above. I personally cannot wait to see how Gwen gets on in the Prime Marvel Universe (where most things happen in comics canon – if you want a feature on this, let me know!)

Age Of X – The Amazing Nightcrawler

Kurt Wagner is the star of the Age of X-Man! From the Munich circus to Hollywood Boulevard, everyone loves Nightcrawler – the biggest celebrity/super hero since Dwayne Johnson! And juggling Kurt’s responsibilities as one of the X-Men and his slate of summer blockbusters would be impossible without the best support staff in the business: stunt coordinator Magma! Personal trainer Kylun! And of course, his leading lady Meggan! But something is rotten in Tinseltown – and there’s tabloid terror in store when it’s discovered that our leading man has a secret! Can Nightcrawler’s squeaky-clean public image survive an explosive affair?

Again, this is a tie-in one shot. This time for the larger Age of X storyline (which is, luckily, a rather short run), yet I’m still excited to read this – I’ve loved Nightcrawler for years now, so to have one of my favourite authors writing a solo comic starring him is a dream!

Fearless (co-written by Karla Pacheco, Leah Williams, Claire Roe)

45692690

FEARLESS is a celebration of all the Women of Marvel – the ones who appear on the page and the ones who make the pages happen! Straight off her silver-screen debut, Captain Marvel takes the world by storm! And speaking of the weather, Storm of the X-Men faces a problem only a goddess could solve. Add the Invisible Woman, and you’ve got an unstoppable trio! Comics’ top female creators take on their favorite ladies of the Marvel Universe! Plus: Get your dose of herstory with profiles on classic and contemporary creators!

Finally, something that doesn’t tie into anything else! Fearless is, as the blurb says, a celebration of the Women Of Marvel! This is a must have for anyone who loves any of these characters, or wants to read more female comic authors!

And currently, that’s Seanan’s entire Marvel collection! I hope this gave you some new things to read, and of course, if you have any other authors, events, etc, you want me to cover, let me know!
